Re: [ACME-SE] FW: [ACME] Modify compset definition for _CLM45%[^_]*SPBC (#702)
Hi Hailong, Thanks for creating an updated version of snow optical property dataset that has correct units for "wvl". I'm cc'ing the ACEM-SE team because I believe the new dataset shouldn't have the same name, even though the variable that was modified was never used in the code. Rob, Mark, others: Should the updated parameter file have a different name (i.e. snicar_optics_5bnd_mam_*c160322*.nc instead of snicar_optics_5bnd_mam_ *c140303*.nc)? -Gautam. Hi Gautam,
Attached is the corrected file. Thanks for catching this potential problem.
It would be better to keep the same file name ( snicar_optics_5bnd_mam_c140303.nc) but replace the previous file in the data repository.

Hi @susburrows <https://github.com/susburrows>,
As I understand there are two parameters files for snow optics: 1. snicar_optics_5bnd_c090915.nc: The older file that has 2 dimensions and 32 variables, while 2. snicar_optics_5bnd_mam_c140303.nc: The newer file that has 5 dimensions (ncl_rds, ice_rds, and wvl_cice are the new dimensions) and 43 variables.
Can the old physics work the new snow optics parameter file?
- If yes, we can should simply update the <fsnowoptics > in /components/clm/bld/namelist_files/namelist_defaults_clm4_5.xml - If not, what would it take to get the old physics working with the new snow optics parameter file?
PS: Of the 32 variables that are in the older file, values of 31 variables haven't changed when compared to variables in the new file. The only difference is in wvl, which had units of meter in the old file and microns in the new file.

Agreed - it should have a new date reflecting when it was created (and the XML code should be updated to point to the new file). We keep all the old versions available for complete provenance. For example, if someone needs to see what was used for an older simulation. Thanks, Mark. Hailong: I will commit the new file (snicar_optics_5bnd_mam_c160326.nc) in the ACME svn inputdata repo. Then, will update all entries for fsnowoptics and run the tests. If things look good, the changes will be merged in ACME repo. -Gautam. On Tue, Mar 22, 2016 at 8:00 AM, Taylor, Mark A <[email protected]> wrote:
