Sept. 23, 2019 – To advance our understanding of development and disease in multicellular organisms, The Allen Institute has partnered with DREAM Challenges to mobilize a larger community for evaluating new optimal tree-building methods.

Top performers in this Challenge will be announced at Hindsight 2020 - The Allen Institute Developmental Recording Symposium, taking place on March 3-5, 2020, in Seattle, Washington.

Challenge Overview

CRISPR-based molecular tools allow the reconstruction of cell lineages based on the phylogenetical analysis of DNA mutations induced by CRISPR during development. This enables cell lineage reconstruction for complex model organisms at single-cell resolution. The Allen Institute Cell Lineage Reconstruction Challenge will provide an unprecedented opportunity to rigorously examine the performance and robustness of lineage reconstruction algorithms across datasets, number of cells, and sizes of lineage trees.
 
This DREAM Challenge comprises three sub-challenges to reconstruct cell lineage trees using 1) experimental molecular data from lineages of less than 100 cells and a video-microscopy reconstructed tree as ground truth; 2) data from an in silico-generated tree of 1,000 cells; and 3) data from an in silico-generated tree of 10,000 cells.

Data and scientific guidance for this challenge are being provided by IBM, University College London, Weizmann Institute, Caltech, and University of Washington.

Timeline

Registration Opens: September, 2019
Launch: Mid-October, 2019
Final Submissions: January, 2020
Winners Announced: March, 2020
