The electronic viewing system is now open to access Summer 2010 DOE- sponsored Student Undergraduate Laboratory Internship (SULI) and Community College Institutes of Science and Technology Program (CCI) applicants. In addition, we have a limited number of applicants for the Pre-Service Teacher Undergraduate Program (PST) and the Faculty and Student Team Program (FaST). These are also in the viewing system. I've taken the liberty of printing some out that have indicated MCS projects and majors of Computer Science and/or Mathematics for your convenience. They are located on the table in my office. The costs involved with the students below have been estimated by Scott Ehling including lab overhead costs, etc.
BELOW ARE SOME SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS SENT BY DEP:
INSTRUCTIONS FOR VIEWING ON-LINE DOE APPLICATIONS:
The web address is: https://applicationlink.labworks.org/home.nsf/mentor?openform . This view will allow you to view only completed applications and recommendations for the SULI, CCI, PST and FaST Programs. Applications will be added to the viewing system as they become complete. Mentors do not need a password, but will require an access code. The access code is napsta256. The SULI viewable applications are only from those students who selected Argonne as their first choice. Round 2 will open March 1. This view will include applications from students who selected Argonne as their first or second choice.

Paper copies of applicants who applied directly to Argonne for the Student Research Participation (SRP) Program will no longer be sent to Divisions. You can now access these applications electronically at https://webapps.anl.gov/register/admin/. However, you must have an ISAAC account to view these applications. If you require an account, please send Lisa Reed ([email protected]) an email with your name. Applicants who indicate they are enrolled in graduate school are eligible for a Research Aide appointment only.
OVERALL INSTRUCTIONS FOR SELECTING STUDENTS
DEP will provide half stipend and travel funding support for SULI participants to the extent that limited funding is available and ONLY to those students who are in the SULI pool. Such students will be identified as SULI in that they will be the only ones in the DOE viewing system. Due to funding limitations, student support from DEP may not be available for some students selected and submitted by February 1, 2010.
The Pre-Service Teacher (PST) Undergraduate Program students will also be available at this funding level. These applicants are identified in the viewing system as well.
DEP will provide full (100%) funding support for the Community College Institutes of Science and Technology Program (CCI) students. FaST Program participants consist of a faculty member and two to three undergraduate students.
FaST Program participant stipends and travel costs will be supported by the National Science Foundation and division funding is required only to defray housing costs ($1200 for each FaST student). Student costs:
Stipend payable to students in programs other than the Research Aide category is $425 per week, plus housing allowance of $100/week. A travel cap of $500 round-trip ground transportation has been instituted. Below are the estimated overall costs per student for the 10-week student program.
DOE SULI, CCI, and PST Programs pending partial funding availability: $6,000
CCI and PST Programs: No charge for a limited number lab-wide, others are at $6,000
Argonne Student Research Participation Program (SRP): $10,100
Research Aide: up to ~$15,000 depending on student's education level; students paying own housing
FaST Program: No charge to divisions other than $1,750 for housing

Students who have selected "all labs" will be visible to all labs that offer the CCI and PST programs and the labs will see an indication of which students are available to all labs. Students who have only selected one lab may receive an offer from that lab at any time during the selection cycle (February 1 to April 1). Students who have selected "all labs" may also receive an offer during that same time period, but once they have received an offer, no other lab can make an offer to that student. If the student declines the first offer they receive, they will be removed from the system and are NOT allowed to see if they can get an offer from another lab.

These Faculty and Student Teams can be assigned to specific division projects in which they have appropriate backgrounds. Please inform India Gordon at 2-5448 if your division would like to host these participants. The total cost to the division is $1750 per student for housing.
