Hi Admins, Just as an FYI, LCRC has purchased a new cluster, to add to and eventually replace fusion. Like fusion and jazz before it, it will be a good, old, commodity cluster w/ mostly off the shelf components (ie, nothing crazy like BG, SiCortex or the Cray), although the nodes will have custom enclosures (Appro GreenBlade enclosures, http://www.appro.com/products/servers/greenblade_intel/ ). Node count is ~308, similar to fusion and jazz. There will be 7 racks that will be installed between the current fusion compute node racks (the shallow iDataPlex racks) and the System racks, pretty much using up all the free floorspace between the two groups (there'll be a narrow, < 2' gap between the Systems racks and the new cluster, since one of the 7 racks--the one holding a large IB switch--will be one of the wide APC racks; the rest are standard 2' width APC racks). Delivery is expected on the 14th (a week from this coming Fri), with installation (basically plugging all the network cables back in) to be completed during the following week, so expect things in the Core to be busy that week near fusion & the Systems racks. There are no plans as of yet to decommision anything on fusion, so all its racks will still be around for the foreseeable future. BTW, the name of the new cluster is "blues". John
