So far today, two MCS researchers have requested sizable VM instances from the CI. Krishna asked for 8 cores, 16GB memory, 500GB disk capacity for a hardware simulator out of LBNL. Boyana asked for 8 cores, 8GB memory, 250GB disk capacity for a web server she wants to run. Two of those would consume a single VM server of ours at the CI. Has anyone got any ideas on how we might handle this? Is Breadboard or Magellan in any way useful for these? Do we have something suitable we can stand up on our VM servers? -- Craig
Do you know if these are going to be long running "production" services? After reading the Boyana's ticket I think the old owney machine might be a good fit. I would like to give this bare metal because the database could get large, and no backups were requested. Our production databases get backups, and I would prefer to not grow them if its not necessary. Running this on bare metal with the database local to the machine should perform better than a VM with a database in it.
