MPICH2 was renamed to just MPICH when version 3.0 was released. MPICH is the name of the software from now on.

Assuming the installation directory is in your PATH, you can run "mpichversion" to see if it is installed and what version. If you just installed using "apt-get install mpich" you should be mostly set. If you built from source and encountered and error, post it here and we can determine the issue.
