[CELS Sysadmins] Avere Presentation/ Brent Orr
The following meeting has been modified: Subject: Avere Presentation/ Brent Orr Organizer: [email protected] Resources: 2172 (TCS) (Building: 240, Floor: 2, Room: 2172) Time: Thursday, January 7, 2010, 2:00:00 PM - 3:00:00 PM GMT -06:00 US/Canada Central Invitees: [email protected]; "Tisha Stacey" <[email protected]>; [email protected]; [email protected] *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Some background on this so people know what it's about and if they want to attend. I ran into these guys over SC, and we had a telecon/webex meeting last week to go over their technology. What they sell is a tiered storage front-end to existing NFS infrastructure. The device (or cluster of devices) speak NFS to your file servers and NFS/CIFS to your clients. It contains a tiered storage system inside consisting of RAM, SAS and SATA, and caches all the data communications, giving you a performance improvement over your existing server. What makes them interesting to me (over things like BlueArc or NetApp) is twofold: 1) Price - they're cheaper by a long shot, since you keep your existing storage and can add cheap disk at well. 2) Test drive - they're actually willing to lend us a demo unit so we can put it through the wringer and see if it lives up to promised performance. I haven't been able to get anything like this out of BlueArc or NexSAN (haven't tried NetApp). If this is interesting tech to you, come by the presentation. == Craig Tina, we had our webex session this afternoon with Craig and he asked me to coordinate time on his and others calendars for Thursday, January 7th at YOUR FACILITY to do a presentation in one of your larger conference rooms. _______________________________________________ This is the CELS Sysadmins mailing list.
