I heard from Paul Hargrove that GASNet includes a portable atomics library that has been implemented pretty much everywhere (Intel, PowerPC, MIPS, Alpha, Cray MTA, SPARC, ARM, ...). Also, a tools-only version of GASNet can be built that has this library but not any of the communication stuff. Something to look into. http://gasnet.cs.berkeley.edu/ Rajeev
