All, There is one item related to foreign travel I neglected to bring up on the call. The NE Chief Operating Officer (Shane Johnson, NE-3) has requested a consolidated list of proposed NE-related foreign travel by federal and laboratory personnel at the beginning of each month for his review and approval. Therefore, if anyone has a need for NEAMS related foreign travel throughout the year, it needs to be submitted on the consolidated list at the beginning of a month. Yes, we will use the travel matrix for it - the matrix is being modified for the new organization so there will be a NE-AMS section that we'll keep updating. However, there may need to be more meat in the justifications. Some of the purpose/justification writeups that I've seen in the matrix would no longer be sufficient for approval. Then can we modify the travel matrix procedures? Adding a different but related procedure guarantees we'll forget about one of them some of the time, and increases the overall work than we'd otherwise do (there's a similar concept in software development that I won't bore you all with). I wouldn't get so spun up on this, but there's a similar issue with monthly reporting that has many of the same characteristics (similar but different requirements in multiple procedures, results in forgetting to execute some of them some of the time). - tim Carroll, Wade wrote:

I concur that NE-wide standards would maximize compliance, for travel, reporting, etc. What is the probability that could be implemented? Is this effectively a pipe dream?
