Hey everyone, There are a few of us who use slack regularly for discussions related to SE things (like testing / scripts / help / etc...) and we were thinking it would be incredibly useful if more of the SE team started to use it regularly. It's immensely useful for having discussions related to how to go about doing things in between telecons, since those occur once every two weeks. Personally, I use linux and unfortunately slack doesn't provide a linux client. However, you can connect to slack using any IRC client. If slack ends up not being workable for certain labs, maybe we could revisit the actual tool we use for this communication method? Good idea. Sorry, Slack doesn¹t work from Sandia machines. It just says ³reconnectingŠ² and then suggests restarting the browser. No idea about other IRC clients. We could try it. Yeah, hotel works, but I can't be on hotel and the normal network at the same time, so I would not be able to do any other work besides slack. Note to all: we now have bridge between Slack and HipChat for the SE/CPL room. You can be on either one and see all the content. This will be a good work-around for SNL and anyone who needs the HipChat linux client. Besides being a useful and distinct mode of discussion (especially for technical issues), chat programs like Slack promote casual "water cooler" interactions that are essential for building a team.
