Personally, I use linux and unfortunately slack doesn't provide a linux client. However, you can connect to slack using any IRC client. See the following page for instructions: https://slack.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201727913-Connecting-to-Slack- over-IRC-and-XMPP
Using an IRC client might also help get around connectivity issues.
If slack ends up not being workable for certain labs, maybe we could revisit the actual tool we use for this communication method? It would be great to be able to have quicker discussions about a lot of SE things with more people.
