The CIS Zimbra email team has been hard at work with preparing our production Zimbra environment for a major software upgrade.
This upgrade - from Zimbra 5 to Zimbra 6 - has been in planning and testing for several months. The current Zimbra 6 release - 6.0.8 Patch 2 - looks to be a very stable release. We are confident it will work well in our environment based on our internal testing and discussions with Zimbra technical representatives.
Mike Rios is planning an upgrade from Zimbra 5.0.23 to Zimbra 6.0.8 Patch 2
*TENTATIVELY* during the weekend of October 16th.
Roughly one month later, perhaps during the Maintenance Weekend, Mike Rios is planning to "enable" multi-node architecture. This will allow us to grow to multiple Zimbra servers. Multiple servers are required to support our growing Zimbra environment - especially the planned migration of APS to Zimbra.

We are asking you, as a key Zimbra stakeholder, for the following:
* Your approval/disapproval of the October 16th outage event
(Estimated time TBD - between 2 - 8 hours at this time)
* Your thoughts on end-user training/education - is the new
Zimbra 6 web interface different enough to justify
some hand-holding? (we don't believe so, but want your thoughts)
* Your approval of the understanding that the Zimbra 6 upgrade
is essentially ONE-WAY: We CANNOT fall back to Zimbra 5
once we determine Zimbra 6 to be working correctly.
Our Zimbra environment has grown to 850 users, with an additional 1000 users expected to migrate over the coming months (CI + APS).
These maintenance activities will ensure we stay current with the Zimbra software roadmap.
