Many people have had outstanding input on how the account request process should work in userbase. So much so that we've taken the time to re-tool the process from the ground up. Instead of just releasing it, and hoping it suits everyone's needs, I'm putting it up on ikon and asking anyone who wants to please visit https://mcs.ikon.mcs.anl.gov/ and request a new account. I'm really interested in things like "I had no idea what {insert field here} field does" or "I didn't understand this page at all" etc. etc. The text attempting to help the user was written by me, on the fly, while coding and debugging etc. so I won't take it personal if what I wrote doesn't make sense. I may call you names, but I'd do that anyway.. It's my hope this is a good "read only friday" project, and rumor has it Jerome is buying beer for anyone who does this, since I normally enlist him in testing front-ends.. (I just started that rumor, btw) Thanks! - Chris P.S. Those of you with stakes in things besides MCS, know that much of this can, and will, be introduced there, based on your input!
So for my free beer (Thanks Jerome), here is my two cents worth.... Shell is a mandatory field, however the Admins (Secretaries) would not know what to choose. Choose the most common shell and leave that as the default. The Workstation resource should be something that the person receives when the account is created and shouldn't have to request it. Other then that, I think it is pretty easily read by non computer literate people. Thanks, T. P.S. It will not allow me to go and set up a another "fake" account pretending to be a FN? So I did redo this as a non us citizen, but it never directed me to the FN page to fill in all my FN credentials?? Let me know when that is fixed and I will try again as a non-us citizen T. On Jan 27, 2012, at 2:18 PM, Craig Stacey wrote:

Slight tweak for when I authenticate with my ANL creds, The field labeled "middle initial" contained my whole middle name. We should either truncate that or change the label and store the whole middle name.
