-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, We're going to be retiring aha.mcs.anl.gov soon, and in the process we'll be splitting it's mysql databases between a "core" and "development" server to better protect systems services from server crashes. What this means is that userbase will be moving to a different hostname when we make this change. Now is the time to starting thinking about all the places where you read from userbase and how you can change the configs to point to the new location (coredb.mcs.anl.gov). I would like to go ahead with this next week, if possible. If you have any issues, please let me know. Otherwise, I will send out an outage announcement on Monday. Is the 'mysql.mcs.anl.gov' alias going to be moved to point at coredb? On 06/19/2009 04:25 PM, Kenneth Raffenetti wrote:

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I was planning on keeping the mysql.mcs.anl.gov alias on the "research" database server so it gives regular users some continuity. coredb.mcs.anl.gov will be a new server for us admins, so we'll have to transition to the new name. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, I've gotten a few responses on this and there doesn't seem to be any major issues. I'm going to schedule this cutover for Wednesday morning at 9am. As a reminder, the hostname will be changing from mysql/aha/yeah.mcs.anl.gov to coredb.mcs.anl.gov for the userbase database only. I plan on leaving the current userbase available for a day to give people time to update any scripts, but I will drop it altogether on Thursday morning. Please let me know if there are any showstoppers at this time. Thanks, Ken Kenneth Raffenetti wrote:

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Reminder: This move will be taking place tomorrow morning @ 9am. Hunter had a great suggestion that we add a CNAME of userbase.mcs.anl.gov to the coredb server. I have done this and would strongly encourage any configs to access the MCS userbase use this hostname, as it can easily move with the database in the future. Remember, userbase.mcs.anl.gov as the db hostname, *not* coredb Thanks, Ken Kenneth Raffenetti wrote:
