Just save the email and pass to 'git am'. That preserves the commit message, date, etc.

There's also the autoconf macro AC_CHECK_DECLS, which I was planning to migrate to after some testing. I haven't investigated what it does internally, though.

I'm didn't notice it and it's not needed for clang.
