Yes, you can use these on different nodes as well, but you need to run the hydra_nameserver somewhere and tell mpiexec where the nameserver is using the -nameserver option. Use mpiexec -nameserver -help for more information.

Using dynamic processes is not supported in MPICH for singleton init. Can you try running it with mpiexec?
Also, note that you should be using MPI publish/lookup functions instead of writing to a file yourself.
