I do not, regardless of whether my LESS environment variable accepts raw control characters. I do not see anything with cat -v either.

I see it with less as well as 'configure --help > foo'; 'vi foo' or 'less foo' This happens on Fedora 14 as well as SL6 [RHEL6 clone] - but not RHEL5, ubuntu [10.04,10.10] etc. Not sure where its coming form.. Satish
