Right now debugging applications with Swift is rather difficult. If I want to see the job directory of a failing task, I have to parse out the name of the job directory from a huge log file, which is typically something like "/lustre/beagle/davidk/swiftwork/test-20140130-2027-moz6pt22/jobs/v/cat-vdyscqll". If you're using a scratch directory on a node's local disk, it's even more difficult - I also have to find the node where it ran, hope it's not in use, start an interactive session on the node, then navigate to that directory structure. Here is one idea that might make it easier: Have a directory called run001/failures. The failures directory contains a copy of the task's work directory (up to N tasks). We could add the following properties to control it: task.failures.copy=true task.failures.copy.location=$RUNDIRECTORY/failures task.failures.copy.limit=10 I'm using something like this in psims via a wrapper script and it makes things much so much easier.
