Clarification on ModCon Demo Expectations

Dear Model Team and ModCon Core Leads, As we move toward the March demo review, I want to clarify our expectations and ensure everyone is aligned. 1. Demo one-pager First, please confirm that your team has the demo one-pager template. If you do not, it is attached, please share it with your teams. 2. Nature of the demos These are technical demos of technical accomplishments. We are not looking for polished PR pieces or conceptual visions. We are looking for clear evidence of something that is: • Running, • Technically substantive, and • Solving a real problem relevant to your domain. Show us working systems, model training, reasoning chains, agentic workflows, model behavior, integration with data or tools - not just slides describing intent. 3. Selection process We will select a subset of demos to showcase at the end of March. Teams are welcome to submit more than one candidate demo for consideration. If you do so, please aim to elevate: • Technical complexity, • Scientific or engineering impact, and • Degree of integration. 4. Cross-lab integration Demos should be technically compelling and leverage assets from more than one lab wherever possible (e.g., models + facilities + data + workflows). Cross-lab integration is a priority. 5. Review format The demo review will include a short video of the working system, and a few supporting slides. These should that clearly explain: * The challenge being addressed, * The technical approach (models, agents, workflows, data, infrastructure), * What is running and how, * What is novel or differentiated, * What (industry) parters are involved * ModCon integration (DBS, BASE, IPPF, BPSW) * Status of American Science Cloud integration * What remains to scale or productionize. These demo and slides are meant to articulate technical progress; not to market. Our goal is to demonstrate credible, advancing AI capability for science/mission; not an aspiration to do so. Please reach out if you have questions, but default to showing us the most technically rigorous, integrated capability you have. Cheers, Court
