ModCon Ambassadors to Model Teams – Roles, Boundaries, and Engagement Process

Dear ModCon Model Team Leads, Cross-Cutting Team Leads, AmSC MT Liaisons, and ModCon team Members, As we move into the next phase of coordinated execution across ModCon, we are formalizing the assignment of ambassadors from the cross-cutting teams and AmSC to each Model Team. You can find the ambassadors listed in this model team spreadsheet<https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://anl.box.com/s/8clg729703dmmkkxusps9ylt4w… > and also attached. Each Model Team will have designated ambassadors from: * DBS (Data Broker & Standards) * BPSW (Best Practices for Scientific Workflows) * BASE (Baseline AI Capabilities) * IPPF (Intellectual Property & Partnership Formation) * AmSC (American Science Cloud) These individuals are assigned to observe and stay contextually informed on Model Team progress, needs, and emerging issues relevant to their respective scopes. Moreover, the ambassadors will report back to their teams and recommend insights on where cross-cutting teams can support and accelerate model team development. Important clarification on roles and boundaries * Ambassadors are observers in Model Team meetings. * Their role is to listen, understand context, and identify where cross-cutting capabilities, best practices, standards, infrastructure, or processes may be relevant. * Ambassadors should not redirect, expand, or materially alter Model Team discussions during those meetings. How to handle questions, input, or follow-on discussion If an ambassador has: * questions, * requests for clarification, or * ideas for additional input or support, they should coordinate out-of-band by reaching out to the Model Team Point of Contact (POC) to request a separate, topic-specific meeting. This ensures: * focused and productive Model Team meetings, and * structured, intentional engagement with cross-cutting teams when it is most useful. We appreciate everyone’s partnership and discipline in making this model work effectively. If there are concerns about how this is operating in practice, please raise them through your Model Team POC or Cross-Cutting Team Lead. DOE CODE Gitlab - expect link in the next week.

Hi, All, Genesis Mission is taking up the task of providing a development environment. We are testing out DOE CODE right now, and in the coming week you should receive an email invitation to join and set your password + multi-factor authentication. It is going to take time to get the full CI/CD capabilities attached to it (early CY2026). Gitlab also supports CUI which GitHub does not. I recommend working with your working teams on a plan to conduct a trial migration over to Gitlab, which we will have better control over. We will continue to evaluate the development needs of ModCon to see if the DOE CODE Gitlab is the best solution. Have a happy Thanksgiving everyone, Court

Hello ModCon team, I am pleased to share with you two important updates to our leadership structure, reflecting our ongoing commitment to excellence (and agility!) within ModCon. 1. First, Rafael Ferreira Da Silva from ORNL will join Franck Cappello as co-lead for the BPSW team. Rafael’s<https://urldefense.us/v3/__https://www.ornl.gov/staff-profile/rafael-ferrei… > extensive expertise in scientific workflows, distributed computing, and as the Workflow and Ecosystem Services Group Leader at ORNL, will be a valuable asset to ModCon. We would also like to congratulate Prasanna Balaprakash, who has taken an exciting opportunity to launch a startup. We wish him great success in this new venture and thank him for the tireless efforts helping to launch ModCon. 2. Additionally, Daniel Ratner will join the IPPF team as partnership formation co-lead, working alongside Chris Ritter and Megan Clifford. Daniel’s role as Partnerships Pillar co-lead on DOE's AI initiative brings valuable alignment between ModCon and the AI initiative. Laura Biven, Jaren Browning, and Ray Grout will continue as the extremely capable DBS co-leads. Daniel will be working to transition his DBS duties over the coming week(s) while ramping up on IPPF. Please join me in welcoming Rafael and Daniel to their new roles and supporting them as they transition. We are excited for these new developments and grateful for everyone’s continued dedication and achievements. Cerebras CS-3 and SambaNova SN40L Systems Now Available to Users

Hi ModCon Team & MTs, Two additional systems are now available in the ALCF AI Testbed: Cerebras-CS-3 (CS-3) and SambaNova SN40L (Metis). These systems expand the range of architectures accessible to researchers developing and deploying machine learning and AI workloads at scale. The CS-3 system is designed for large-scale model training and fine-tuning. It consists of four CS-3 wafer-scale engines configured to support models of up to approximately 200 billion parameters. The Metis system is optimized for inference workloads that require high throughput and low latency. It comprises two SambaRacks, each containing 16 SN40L RDU systems. Like all of Argonne's other AI accelerator systems, CS-3 and Metis are open to the research community with proven problems to solve. To Get Started on CS-3: Researchers can now submit project proposals for these systems platforms via the ALCF's Director's Discretionary (DD) program.
