As you may or may not know, the BG/P is no longer in the plans for
SSF. It will stay in 369 (ISSF). These drawings reflect the new
layout for SSF, and are focused on either the BG/Q (eastern/top half)
or Day One computing layout (western/bottom half).
Some notes:
SSF Day One.pdf:
This is the equipment we'll need to have powered ASAP. It includes
Jazz 2, the PADS cluster, MCS and CI infrastructure, and other compute
resources that will be moving over such as the Radix breadboard
cluster, NMPDR, kbT, Full Disclosure, and Cosmea. Also included are
likely systems such as the DX cluster and SpectraLogic tape
libraries. Some footprints have been significantly reduced due to
proposals not being made/not getting funded, hence the 7ish empty rows.
SSF.pdf:
This includes the BG/Q layout. Of note:
* BG/Q compute row pitch changed from 8 ft to 7 ft per IBM.
* 96 racks of DDN with 16 racks of IO nodes. This spacing makes the
columns less of an issue (assuming the column positions are still what
they were in January).
* The blue barrier at the midway point is a baffle we'll need to
deploy when this full layout is achieved to differentiate between the
hot aisle at the bottom of the DDN rows and the cold aisle at the
start of the regular cabinet aisles. This allows us to ensure the
first cold row from the west (top) is a good 9-10 feet from the wall
to help maintain air pressure. However, because we do not want the
PDUs at the east (bottom) of the room to be eating hot air from
machines, the first aisle needs to be a cold aisle (also 8-9 feet from
the east wall). The baffle will allow us to switch hot/cold aisle
quickly. I believe the DDNs may even have an option for directing air
from the exhaust upward, which would negate the need for this baffle.
