Fellow sysadmins, I think beer should be drunk this evening, as we do on Friday evenings. Any thoughts? odd NTP traffic

I've been informed that the netblock of 218.75.128.0/19 is not really in use by those it's been assigned to, and/or the traffic to/from that network is basicly various forms of malware command/control. When digging into this around the lab, the big thing that is hitting it is all coming from 140.221.8.88 NTP. While I don't think it a problem as it does appear to be just NTP traffic, the piece that is confusing is that in some/many cases it apepars that we are probing out to hosts in that netblock and not getting a response. It's not that we are responding to their query. What is the config on that host as to where it should be getting it's sources for NTP? Might it be attempting to pull from some DNS pool that is getting these hosts in China added to the sources list? If so, why? -_Gene

The Great Flood of 2011 has been an interesting experience, to say the least.. Currently, the back of the house is sitting at about 95 degrees, and I think if it's possible to have negative humidity, I have it.. The front of the house, however, will require some additional work.. We have these wonderful hardwood floors, and water has gotten under them.. They're bringing in special gear to tackle that, so once they get here, in about an hour, I will literally be pushed outside.. So please put me down for 1/2 a vacation day today, and I will throw in the towel, regroup, and dry out..

Yesterday, the house flooded. Not as bad as craig's indoor monsoon, but enough to call in the servpro guys.. Michelle stayed here today, and unfortunately she has meetings etc tomorrow.. So i will work from home, or hotel, then at home, depending on how things go, so I can bear witness to the de-watering.. Should be online, enjoy the festivities tomorrow!

Group status display

I'm going to turn the displays by the help desk into our status displays after the Chu visit. Do you want something displayed on it? Here are your options: * a web page that's accessible from guest wireless (I'll get a static IP in that range), loads in Chrome, and will look decent in portrait mode. * an RSS feed that can be loaded in boarrd.com (demo at http://boarrd.com/dashboards/welaika) Got pretty graphs for your clusters? Storage by Cafe'

John and I brought some items into the cafe' storage area. When we opened the door to the storage area and practically walked into a cart full of items. If you do not have the time to push it any further then only through the door, please stop by the HD, I am sure one of us could do it for you so that the next person gets hurt. Please take the time (in this case three more steps) to make the areas where we work and store items, safe. Thanks! T
