Important: Planned Service outage this weekend

This is a draft of a note I am going to send out to systems-announce(a)mcs.anl.gov this afternoon. If there are going to be other service interruptions that the general user community should know about please add them to this. Also please critique my note if you notice something that should be different, like, do you think I should I include Paul's message or forward that separately? Greetings, In addition to the service interruptions by the central IT group (see the end of this note) MCS will be performing some routing maintenance and will be upgrading the mailing list service this weekend. When? (5/18-20) starting at 5:00 p.m. on Friday and completing by 7:00 p.m. on Sunday. What? kerberos pw expiration set to 365 days?

Userbase sets a user's kerberos password using the 'admin_password' kerberos policy. It was my understanding that passwords were not to expire in MCS, but that policy has a 365 day password expiration rule. Does anyone know the history behind that? Was this set intentionally? I'm going to remove that expiration policy later today since we have no mechanism to let users know their password is going to expire. -- Ken Raffenetti Systems Administration Associate MCS Division - Argonne National Laboratory
