Ken and I went over the machines in the breadboard cluster. Here’s the layout: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vgteif81ps5b56m/Screenshot%202015-09-17%2016.38.0… Rack A — almost all of this is to be kept and moved. It has room to accept some machines from other racks. (2 servertech CDUs, plug TBD) Rack B — Most likely all to be retired, Ken will confirm. (1 servertech CDU) Rack C — Ken thinks all but the top 4 machines to be retired. (1 servertech CDU) Rack D — All to be kept. (1 servertech CDU) These racks also have Juniper ethernet and some Mellanox inifiband switches that will be kept. Rack E — Apple servers – keep. (Can move to Rack C) Rack F — The Storage server at top of rack to be kept (move to Rack C), and the three 1U supermicros at the bottom (Rack A or C) Rack G — Ken well investigate node labeled “PETA08”. There are two MS-donated Supermicros that may be useful. Otherwise, gear can be retired. Rack H — All to be retired Rack I — Top section is A/V gear. To be moved to other location. Rest to be retired These are all APC racks worth hanging onto, as well as any CDUs not used in the move. End of the day, it’s 3 racks of gear (one rack sparsely populated). Need to confirm power situation in new location, however, since I think PADS may have different outlets than these racks are using. Ken, once you’ve confirmed what gear in rack C is going, work with us and we’ll help with the moves outlined above. Once Racks A, C and D are ready to go, we’ll schedule the move to either the current PADS location or possibly existing I2U2 spot, depending on the power situation and how soon we can decommission I2U2. -- Craig

[CELS Sysadmins] Performance Appraisals

As you may have noticed I may have pinged you for input on one or more performance appraisals. As part of this new Workday system, I thought I would try this out and see how it goes. What I’m looking for is just thoughts or notes on your impressions on the performance of the particular employee you’ve been asked to evaluate. It’s confidential (only I will see it), and I’m not looking for a full fledged eval. Anything more than a paragraph is probably overkill, bullet points are totally acceptable. If I have followup questions, I’ll ask. But really what I’m looking for is help. Things you think I might not fully appreciate or need to be aware of. I’m also asking everyone to provide feedback on their direct supervisor. I’ve asked Jim to do the same for my direct reports. Let me know if this isn’t clear or you have questions.
