DHCP on SystemsNet

I migrated DHCP on SystemsNet to a VM I am working on to implement netreg. All current reservations are in place (copied from sirius), new reservations in hostbase will not go active till we cut back over later today. If you have any problems getting on-net, please let me know. This does not affect any other networks within the MCS/HPC space. -corby

MCS HD Shifts for Summer..

One of us "regulars" will shadow the student's during their first and second shifts to make sure they feel comfortable being left there. Even though we are all only a walk or IM away, we don't want to scare them off! Fileserver downtime

On Saturday morning I am going to install LDAP support on the fileservers. I have tested Hunter's procedure on a vm set up pretty much exactly as sto01 is set up and on a vm with a version of Solaris 10 that is pretty close to mercury. The purpose of this is to allow nfs mounts to be restricted to netgroups, Specifically the "machines" netgroup. Currently NFS exports on mercury are restricted to the machines netgroup but this is via NIS. My plan is to unexport all the filesystems on sto01, install LDAP, configure the exports to only allow the machines netgroup, attempt to nfs mount from some desktops, then attempt to mount from my laptop, (which is not in the machines netgroup) [currently as long as my laptop is in the mcs ip space I can NFS mount] I will attempt to install ldap support on mercury, but if anything goes wrong I will back out and leave it NIS bound until we can migrate off of it. I am about to send out the following notice. Greetings, On Saturday 06/05/2010 from 7AM until approximately 9AM I will be performing some maintenance on the central files servers. It will be necessary for the servers to be brought offline and will therefore be unavailable for the duration of the maintenance. It should only take a few minutes to a half hour but I am going to schedule 2 hours in case of problems. All services related to the fileservers will be unavailable or intermittently available during these two hours. You should not expect any services that happen to be working during the maintenance period to continue to work until after I've sent out an "All-Clear" message. The services affected are: mcs NFS mounted home filesystems samba unixhome directories MCS project directories This means that logins to the MCS linux desktops and general login machines will fail as well. It may be necessary to reboot your linux desktops after the maintenance period is over. If you have questions or concerns please let us know. Thanks for your patience -- max
