Hi everyone and thanks for your attention.
I am trying to run a meteorological simulation with RAMS model (
http://vandenheever.atmos.colostate.edu/vdhpage/rams.php) in a new cluster
with CentOs7 in all nodes. We have other applications running fine in the
cluster, sending processes to each node,... everything seemed to run fine.
But the RAMS model freezes at its first stage on the parallel run. RAMS
developers recommend using mpich2-1.4.1 as they have successfully tested.
If I try to run a parallel simulation on the master node it runs fine and
starts the required number of processes. If I try to use the other nodes
the simulation freezes, do not stop with an error message; RAMS model
processes appear in all used nodes and in the master node but any output is
created and the usual status messages from RAMS do not appear on the screen.
The command line to run the model is
[paco@Llamp RUN]$ time ../misc/mpich2-1.4.1/bin/mpirun -verbose
-machinefile mpd.hosts -n 20 ./rams-6.2.03 -f RAMSIN
The only warning I can find in the log file (see below) is
"we don't understand the response get_result; forwarding downstream"
but as I'm not an expert with mpich I can't figure out the reason of
the freezing.

You're building a 5 year old version of MPICH (1.2.1p1). Can you try again with something a little more recent? The latest stable version is 3.2.1.

Hi,
when I developped our I/O routines, I did had to end any split
collective call on a file before starting a new one, and it is said to
do so:
On any MPI process, each file handle may have at most one active split
collective operation at any time.

Hi,
I have successfully built MPICH 3.2.1 in Mac OS X 10.8 using GNU GCC 4.9 and LLVM LD 3.7.1.
Amongst others, the result of this build was a shared library called libmpi.12.dylib. When executing "otool -L libmpi.12.dylib" (the equivalent in Linux would be "ldd libmpi.12.dylib"), I can see that the install name of this shared library has an absolute path, namely:
libmpi.12.dylib:
/Users/dummy/workspace/mpich.3.2.1/buil/lib/libmpi.12.dylib (compatibility version 14.0.0, current version 14.1.0)

To change the install name, one usually passes option "-Wl,-install_name,XYZ" (where XYZ is the new install name, which can be a relative path such as ../workspace/libmpi.12.dylib) to the linker.
My question is: how can I pass this option to MPICH configure script so that the resulting shared library (libmpi.12.dylib) does not have an absolute path as its install name?
