This is a great opportunity for visibility for MCS. They're looking for volunteers! Pat ________________________________ Don’t forget to sign up for the NIU STEM Fest if you are interested in helping! Good Morning, Argonne’s Educational Programs will be attending the annual NIU STEM Fest on October 17th at Northern Illinois University’s Convocation Center. NIU STEM Fest is a major event that draws in about 6,000-7,000 people annually. It is an amazing experience for families in the surrounding areas where participants can explore STEM in unique and engaging ways. Argonne is a major attraction at the event, and we are always given the VIP treatment. This year, we will be focusing on computational thinking. We want to educate participants about the several different areas of computer science and the potential careers it offers. We will have several activities at our station to exhibit each of the highlighted areas and will require some problem solving skills by the participants. The real magic for these events seems to happen when participants have the ability to engage with professionals in the fields they are interested in. It would be extremely helpful if we had a few practicing professionals attend the fest with us. You are not required to stay the whole day, but a few hours of your time would be immensely appreciated and would make a serious impact on the participants. Got Contractor? Job Aide for Administrators & Tech Reps Hosting Contractors

Hello CLS, LCF, and MCS, A Management Assessment was carried out in the CELS directorate to measure the degree of compliance with Argonne requirements for ensuring contractor safety as required under 10 CFR 851 Worker Health and Safety. Although many Tech Reps in CELS developed and implemented accurate JSAs for contractor work, a random sampling of JSAs from CY14 indicated that 27% (over 1 in 4) were not retained after job completion for the time period required by 10 CFR 851 (i.e. 75 years). As a corrective action, the CLS, LCF, and MCS Divisions have decided to store contractor-signed JSAs in a BOX folder maintained by the CLS, LCF, and MCS ESH Coordinator; CLS, LCF, and MCS Tech Reps should forward JSAs (either paper or electronic copies) to their ESH Coordinator for storage in BOX for the 75 year retention period (please send both new JSAs and old JSAs currently being stored). Additionally, attached to this email is a job aide, "Got Contractor?", which should be useful to staff who are Technical Representatives asked to host contractors or administrators who handle PARIS procurements that involve contractors. The job aide is a cheat sheet for LMS-PROC-123 Contractor Safety and outlines the basic requirements Tech Reps and administrators must follow when handling contractor procurement.
