Stu, The server that houses the usagedb database is at 85% full. /dev/sdb1 4.9T 3.9T 746G 85% /var/lib The hardware is from 2009 and is out of support. If this is still to be housed at MCS, we need to start the process of procuring a new machine. Rebuilding pamby

I think I have the new config ready to go for pamby. Does anyone have any objections to my rebuilding pamby Thursday morning? I'll be shutting the current pamby down and bringing up a VM to test just so in case something goes badly I can bring the current one back up quickly.

Can userbase include the name of the requesting user in these emails in the subject, or would that violate a privacy rule somewhere? Account Migration Logic

Here's a flowchart of how usernames will be altered when we migrate to ANL accounts. These rules assume the target username is available, in cases it's not a human decision will be necessary. What we do once we determine the 'preferred username is up for discussion, goal here is to decide what we would prefer it to be.

Tracking work

I apologize in advance for the extra work burden this is going to place on you. I'm going to do my best to make it not too bad, but I need this data for some decisions on future funding options. For the next month, any time you do work that is for the benefit of a division other than MCS, please track the amount of time you spend on it (in 15 minute increments). If it's work that benefits other divisions including MCS, note that. For example, work on the cryptocard server would benefit other divisions and MCS in general. However, if it's work on the cryptocard server but solely driven by ALCF, that would be counted as not including MCS. This goes for help desk work and tickets as well. Please report the numbers to me every Friday. Plain text is fine, and can be in whatever format works for you. Something as simple as "ALCF - 8.5 hrs, CELS - 2 hrs, CI - 1 hr, MCS,ALCF - 3 hrs" would do the trick. I just need the totals for the week, over the next four weeks. And I don't need totals for anything pure MCS. Also note LCRC is now CELS and work that benefits that should be counted as such. IGSB is technically CELS, but count it as its own thing. If you have questions about a particular group and how they fit in, fire away. Let me know if you have any other questions as well. Thanks! -- Craig

Email phishing attempt - ignore

All, Two of you have reported the rather sad phishing attempt included below. (thank you for reporting this to me - please include cyber(a)anl.gov in future reports). Naturally none of you will fall for this kind of thing, but for the benefit of our newer members of IGSB I thought I'd go over a couple points that give this kind of thing away: 1. While it says "Argonne National Laboratory" the users return email has nothing to do with the lab. (in this case atlanticbb.net) 2. The grammar and spelling is terrible. While not all lab communications were written by Shakespeare the staff here are generally far more eloquent than this. 3. isra.li/8C has no relation to any lab web address. 4. The word login is hyphenated - this is almost a dead giveaway that its bogus as the phishers know that any incoming email with the word "login" spelled correctly will probably get hung up in the spam/phish filters. Unfortunately on occasion the lab will use outside vendors/tools/collaboration sites that are not "anl.gov" or a related site and are yet legitimate. I can insure you that this makes the sysadmins in general and the cyber security folks in particular very unhappy.
