Andrew, Alex, Here is the report on the Waste Forms & Systems IPSC System Design, satisfying the Level 3 Milestone for the Waste Forms IPSC work package. An independent technical review was performed and responses incorporated into the document. Our intent is for this document to evolve as we gather more information through the PIRT process and as the project progresses in the spirit of an Agile software development philosophy. The document number is pending assignment by Sandia. The AFCI QAPD cover sheet has been signed, and completion of the milestone will be noted in the GTIOPC system. Everyone, As promised, attached is a draft of my opening remarks for the PI meeting. As you will see, I am really trying to set the stage for the rest of the meeting. I do not explain NEAMS and how it is structured, but try to address questions like: Why our interest in nuclear energy? What is the role of modeling and simulation? What are we going to build? Who are we building it for? How we are building it? What is the role of the Hubs? What is the role of the PI Meetings? I also included the agenda and some logistics info. I know the agenda I used must be out of date (does not reflect the change of SafeSept and FMM). The important point for you is that it will be up to you in your presentations to explain the program elements, the management structure, and to show how what we have been doing addresses the high level goals that I set out in my presentation. PMT Conference Call -- Monday, Sept 29th --1:00pm EDT

Everyone, Just a reminder - we will be having our regularly scheduled conference call this coming Monday. The focus of this call will be on the PI Meeting that will occur two days later and any last minute issues. I will be working on my presentation over the weekend and will send it out before the call for any comments or suggestions. I also expect that we will cover the FY-10 budget news. Unfortunately there is not much I can say today (because I do not have any news). At one point this morning, we heard that the Conference Committee was meeting this afternoon (Friday), but then canceled. Hopefully they will meet on Monday. All indications within NE and DOE look good for NEAMS, so keep your fingers crossed that Congress makes some funds available to be sent our way. Here is the dial-in information. PI Meeting Dinner Speaker

Dan, Bob, Just to let you know - I have pulsed both Pete Miller and Pete Lyons about talking at our PI meeting dinner. They said, that at this point they are so swamped that they are afraid to make any commitments to attend. They would like to attend the meeting, and I am supposed to check with them as the date gets closer. So - I talked with Vic Reis yesterday about attending the dinner and he agreed and agreed to say a few words. Given that he also talked at the first ASCI PI meeting and his interest in nuclear energy and advanced modeling and simulation, I think this will be quite appropriate. At some point soon, I need to get the address of where we are going to have the dinner and the times so I can pass it along to Vic. Phillip and Sherrell have discussed the comments and I will be distributing a table showing action assignments in the next several hours. In the meantime, Phillip and Sherrell asked me to let you know that one of the significant comments from Dr. Miller and Dr. Lyons is that more aggressive and well thought out milestones are needed for most of the imperatives (Dr. Miller notes that the milestones for imperative 4 appear to be at the right level). Please continue giving thought to changes that should be made in milestone identification and descriptions as you prepare to revise your sections.
