Here is finally the guidance for NEAMS WP preparation in PICS. The table provides WP numbers for PICS and funding allocations for both PICS and FCPICS (Bill McCaughy and Brad Couch: there are some changes in HQ Reserve and Program Management allocations). This took so long because there is an entirely new NE-wide WBS and entirely new B&R codes, and preliminary CR guidance for NE has been hard to come by. FCPICS WP shells have already been set up by the TIO on the PRC website. Wendy Jue of PRC (301-540-7100) has set up PICS WP shells for new FY11 WPs with the numbers in the table (NEET WP shells will be completed on Monday). Pdfs with guidance for WP preparation are also attached (for PICS, disregard the guidance for WP numbering, use the numbers provided in the table). Give your WP a meaningful name but keep it short. As the guidance shows, you need to provide a spend plan and Milestones (dates)/Deliverables (report/letter). If you have more than one M/D in your WP, provide separate spend plans for them. Use M/D descriptions (titles) that have meaning beyond your immediate colleagues so HQ personnel can understand them. The xls also contains WP approval authorities. If your name is on there, please make sure that Wendy has your coordinates (email, tel). Please also supply Wendy with the names and coordinates of WP Managers. A second tab shows WPs that were created before FY11 and may have carryover in them. These need to be established in PICS as well. The WP number, WBS, and B&R code stay the same. The WPs are due in the system, approved by the Field representatives, on Sept 3. All, Wanted to give you the opportunity to block out your calendars as early as possible, and to tell all your PI’s to do the same. The next NEAMS PI meeting will take place in D.C. on October 18-20. Regrettably, that requires Sunday travel. Availability of meeting space this late in the game made that unavoidable. We plan to lock in the L’Enfant Plaza Hotel as the meeting venue. Note on Work Package Preparation

Folks, I’ve been getting calls about FY2011 work packages (WPs) from FY2010 work package managers (WPMs). If I didn’t say it before, let me say it now. It would be inappropriate to prepare work packages for laboratories other than your own without engaging a point of contact that those laboratories. Those labs are eager to know what level of funding you intend to provide, and what the scope of work is you expect. Please make sure that process has taken place before submitting your work packages. NEAMS Work Packages for FY-11

Dear PMT, Following up on the action item I have from our call last Monday, I'm providing a brief update on the status of FCPICS and PICS for input of FY-11 NEAMS work packages: * FCPICS is available for creation/drafting of NEAMS WPs (for WPs funded by FCR&D). A "shell" for each planned WP in FCPICS has been created by Matt Brainard (PRC) and should be useable as a starting point. If you or your WP managers have any questions or difficulties, I suggest you contact Matt at mbrainard(a)prc8a.com<mailto:[email protected]> * PICS is nearly ready for input of NEAMS WPs (for WPs funded by the SMR, NGNP, LWRS, ARC and NEET programs). The work package shells are being created today (stay tuned for additional guidance). Thanks much for your efforts and patience accommodating the complexity of the planning process this year, with multiple funding sources for several NEAMS elements. We will hopefully have a simpler and stable process starting in FY-12. Hussein

NEAMS Fall 2010 PI Meeting - Location Change

Everybody, After a bit of consideration and advice, we have decided to shift the location of the 2010 PI meeting to the DC area. There are lots of good reasons for doing this, but perhaps the most compelling is that we expect the new Reactor Concepts Deputy Assistant Secretary (NE-7 and my boss) to be on board by then. Holding the PI meeting in the DC area will help ensure that he is able to at least spend a few minutes learning about NEAMS and meeting the PIs. The DC area will also possibly allow attendance of some CEA and S. Korean technical folks (they are both holding meetings with the U.S. that week). So - we are still shooting for the week of October 18th (most likely on the 19th, 20th, and 21st) and in the general DC area. I will look to Keith and Sandy to help us find a good location for the meeting (and not the Germantown auditorium). Please continue to think about who will be presenting what at your sessions and we will get the details of the exact location and dates out as soon as possible. Fall PI Meeting Draft Agenda

Everybody, As promised, attached is a very preliminary draft of a possible agenda for the NEAMS Fall 2010 PI meeting. You will notice several things: · The schedule is very tight, but I fit everything in about 2 ½ days so that we could do a tour on the afternoon of the third day. · Each element gets to have a 15 minute FY-10 overview and then three 45 minute technical sessions. · The one exception is CT (the Rodney Dangerfield of NEAMS) that gets only one session · The technical sessions are intended to be one half hour talk with 15 minutes for questions and discussion · I scheduled a PI Meeting Dinner on the first night and if we do this in DC, I will make sure we get a good dinner speaker The idea of leaving the topics blank is to allow for the Element leads to select the talks that will be given. The point of the NEAMS Fall PI meeting is not to tell a comprehensive story about NEAMS or how it operates (I will do that at the kickoff). What we are looking for is a good collection of talks to ensure different NEAMS work meets (and hopefully surpasses) our technical expectations. This is a chance for the Elements to put their best foot forward. So - please look over the attached draft agenda to see what blocks of time your element has been assigned. If anyone wants to make a shift - I will leave it to you to do the "horse trading." Just let me know the results. Finally, I will commit to you that we will have some dates and location for this meeting by the end of the week. NEAMS To Do List -- Summer 2010 Update

Everyone, As I have mentioned several times - when I came back from my Ocean City NJ beach vacation at the beginning of August I started working on an update to the NEAMS "To Do" list from last January. It is amazing to me how much has happened between then and now. The really good news is that while I have added a few things to the list, deleted one, and consolidated a few others - most are well underway and on track. Note that I color coded the new, merged or deleted items. Please look this version of the list over. As you will see I have added some priorities, but those are just my judgment calls. Please let me know if I need to make any changes or if you have any other additions. Let's plan on spending a few minutes talking about this at the Monday PMT Conference Call (and yes we are going to have one of those).
