NEAMS PI actions for NEUP Liason Activities

Dear NEAMS PI members- As most of you are aware, the Nuclear Energy University Program (NEUP) has announced its program selections for FY 11 and we now performing the full proposal review for FY 12. Both NEUP and NEAMS recognize all of the hard work that you do to make both of our programs successful and we would like to express a sincere thank you for your continued support. Attached you will find 3 files and instructions for obtaining the pdfs for the full proposals: 1. NEUP selected project list FY 09_11 V3-The spreadsheet contains 6 tabs. The first three tabs attempt to "bin" the projects as they line up to the IPSC (vertical axis) and phenomenological effect and/or crosscut (horizontal axis). The last three tabs list the high level details of the project (title, PI, funding etc.) for FYs 09-11. The 09 and 10 "selection table and title tabs" should look familiar since they were used to identify candidate projects of interest for these years. The FY 11 selection table and title contains the entire listing of projects that were funded and you will receive instructions in a separate email from your NEAMS lead regarding further actions for this tab. 2. I know its not convenient but I the only way to get the lot of pdf files past the DOE firewall was to use a separate email account. You will receive another email with these files after this one. The actual assignments are contained within the "selection table and title" tabs from the spreadsheet mentioned above. 3. My previous email to PMT members regarding FY 11 NEUP guidance dated 10/05/11-You should have received an email from your program lead or representative laboratory PMT member last fall which provided specific guidance for costing the direct funding that was provided for liaison activities in FY 11. In FY 12 direct funding has not been specifically allocated; however, all work packages contain boiler plate NEUP verbiage to support these same sorts of activities. The original scope of work contained within each work package obviously has priority however we believe that NEAMS could greatly benefit by supporting a small level of effort to leverage the large number of funded projects across the portfolio. (This email also contains the previous NEUP selected project list as well as the NEAMS NEUP Integration Plan). 4. NEUP Presentation that I gave at the PMT meeting in ABQ (1/25/11). This presentation outlines the process as a whole and outlines the status of the integration efforts. If you have any questions about the overall process please review this and the Integration Plan. Action: 1. Please identify and review the full proposals from my other email. 2. You have been given online access to all the identified projects you expressed an interest in reviewing and now have the full proposal which in most cases was not previously available on the NEUP website. Please review the project(s) documents in their entirety and decide whether or not you would be interested in contacting the PI for further discussions and/or data exchanges. 3. Complete this assessment and provide your recommendations (positive or negative) to me and your NEAMS lead by COB 3/12. 4. Do not contact NEUP PI. In most cases, NEAMS does not have the oversight authority for engaging the PI directly. Once I have a confirmed listing I will then engage NEUP and applicable NE program POC to allow first contact as well as a provide more detailed instructions on the expectations for the interaction. NEUP FY 11 Analysis and Update on Liason Activities

This is essentially what I presented at the PMT Meeting in ABQ. The last three tabs list the high level details of the project (title, PI, funding etc.) for FYs 09-11. The 09 and 10 "selection table and title tabs" should look familiar since they were used to assign NEAMS POCs to the identified candidate projects of interest for these years. The "FY 11 selection table and title" contains the entire listing of projects that were funded for all of NE and should be used to identify NEAMS specific candidate projects of interest similar to what was done for FYs 09 and 10. Please circulate to your team and assign interested POCs for FY 11 candidate projects by COB 3/12. I now have the full proposals for the listed 09 and 10s, and will be sending out a follow on email directly to the POCs listed within the spreadsheet. WP FY12-13 carryover

As I am slogging through the WPs that have streamed in for budget approval the last few days, I notice that some pretty big WPs don't show any carryover to FY13. Examples are RELAP7 and PNNL's big FMM WP. I haven't looked at all of them yet but I recommend to all of you that you show some 10% carryover because that is what the reality will be when you reach the end of the year. You need some to keep going through the first month(s) of FY13. You can still work directly with Wendy until COB Fri Feb 17.
