Fifth Workshop on General Purpose Processing Using GPUs Held with ASPLOS XVII London, UK March 3, 2012 http://www.ece.neu.edu/GPGPU/GPGPU5 Overview: The goal of this workshop is to provide a forum to discuss new and emerging general-purpose purpose programming environments and platforms, as well as evaluate applications that have been able to harness the horsepower provided by these platforms. This year's work is particularly interested on new heterogeneous GPU platforms. Papers are being sought on many aspects of GPUs, including (but not limited to): + GPU applications + GPU compilation + GPU programming environments + GPU power/efficiency + GPU architectures + GPU benchmarking/measurements + Multi-GPU systems + Heterogeneous GPU platforms Submission Information Authors should submit their papers using the ACM SIG Proceedings format in double-column style using the directions on the conference website atwww.ece.neu.edu/GPGPU/GPGPU5 Submitted papers will be evaluated based on originality, significance to topics, technical soundness, and presentation quality. At least one author must register and attend GPGPU to present the work. Accepted papers will be included in preliminary proceedings and distributed at the event. All papers will be made available at the workshop and will also be published in the ACM Conference Proceedings Series. Extended versions of the best papers will be invited to be published in a special issue of the IJPP journal. At the high end, exascale systems are expected to support over 100 million threads, primarily due to increased intra-node concurrency. To take full advantage of this increased concurrency, new software and programming models are necessary. With increased system and application complexity, scalable tools are critical for diagnosing the root causes of performance and correctness problems. To diagnose and correct problems in highly concurrent systems, tools themselves are becoming more complex. Tools will require sophisticated infrastructure to measure, analyze, diagnose and present the causes of an execution's anomalies. In many cases, tools will combine online and offline analysis. They may use sophisticated modeling and statistical analysis techniques. They may attempt to correct problems; and they may have to survive faults. To manage this complexity, there is a need for abstractions that simplify tool design and for infrastructure that is reusable and extensible. Experts in high performance computing are invited to share their expertise with the High Performance Computing (HPC) community by submitting proposals for tutorials at the ISC '12 conference to be held in Hamburg, Germany from June 17-21. The ISC '12 tutorials program will give attendees the opportunity to explore a wide variety of important topics related to high-performance computing and other related aspects. ISC '12 invites proposals for introductory, intermediate, and advanced tutorials, either full-day (seven hours) or half-day (three and half hours). While there is significant interest in these architectures, much of this interest is an artifact of the hype associated with them. This workshop focuses on understanding the implications of accelerators on the architectures and programming environments of future systems. It seeks to ground accelerator research through studies of application kernels or whole applications on such systems, as well as tools and libraries that improve the performance or productivity of applications trying to use these systems. The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners who are involved in application studies for accelerators and other hybrid systems, to learn the opportunities and challenges in future design trends for HPC applications and systems.
