Call for Papers This year, we highlight containers and virtualization as sandbox enablers for scaled large language models, memory-intensive LLM training, and increasingly agentic AI systems that dynamically orchestrate tools, services, and distributed resources across cloud and HPC infrastructures. We invite contributions including, but not limited to: - Containerized and VM-based environments for large-scale training, distributed inference, and multi-agent AI systems, including orchestration frameworks such as Kubernetes - Container-based training data ingest, RLHF/DPO load balancing, and dynamic resource shifting for iterative alignment loops. - Virtualization substrates for agentic execution graphs, tool invocation pipelines, and dynamic resource binding across heterogeneous clusters - Advanced autoscaling, scheduling, and event-driven resource management for long-running training jobs and bursty agent-driven inference workloads - GPU and accelerator virtualization techniques enabling safe and efficient sharing across concurrent training and agentic tasks, including MIG partitioning, MPS, and vGPU - GPU memory virtualization and oversubscription mechanisms for high-memory LLM and foundation model workloads - Unified CPU-GPU memory architectures, flat page tables, and shared virtual address spaces for accelerator-intensive AI pipelines - Distributed and disaggregated memory virtualization for multi-node model training and inference, including CXL-attached and fabric-attached memory architectures - Storage-to-memory-mapped data paths and high-throughput dataset access mechanisms for large model pipelines - Memory compression, parameter reduction, quantization, and out-of-core techniques to reduce footprint and improve utilization - Efficient memory allocation, fragmentation control, and runtime memory management for multi-tenant AI platforms - Container-aware high-performance networking, including RDMA, RoCE congestion management, and scalable CNI designs for distributed AI training - Performance isolation and mitigation of virtualization noise for latency-sensitive inference and agent coordination - Inference serving infrastructure including GPU multiplexing, model sharding, and KV-cache management within virtualized and containerized environments - Benchmarking, profiling, and observability tools for memory-intensive and accelerator-bound AI workloads - Secure isolation, confidential computing (AMD SEV-SNP, Intel TDX, GPU TEEs), and trust models for multi-tenant and cross- organizational agentic systems - Real-world case studies of virtualization-enabled LLM training, distributed inference, and agentic AI deployments across cloud and HPC environments The Workshop on Virtualization in High-Performance Cloud Computing (VHPC) aims to bring together researchers and industrial practitioners facing the challenges posed by virtualization and containerization in AI-driven HPC and cloud infrastructures, in order to foster discussion, collaboration, mutual exchange of knowledge and experience, enabling research to ultimately provide novel solutions for virtualized computing systems of tomorrow. Virtualization and container technologies constitute the programmable substrate of modern AI and HPC infrastructures. In the current AI era -- characterized by large-scale model training, distributed inference, multimodal pipelines, and increasingly agentic systems -- controlled and efficient execution across heterogeneous resources is essential. HPC centers and cloud operators alike must manage infrastructures composed of CPUs, GPUs, NPUs, high-performance interconnects, and emerging accelerators, while supporting highly dynamic and resource-intensive AI workloads. Training jobs may span thousands of GPUs; inference services demand low latency and strict performance isolation; agentic systems orchestrate distributed tools and services across trust domains. Virtualization technologies provide the mechanisms to meet these demands. Full machine virtualization enables strong isolation and consolidation across heterogeneous nodes. Container-based OS-level virtualization offers lightweight and responsive deployment models suited for latency-sensitive inference and microservice-based AI pipelines. Lightweight VMs, microVMs, and unikernels reduce execution overhead and attack surface while enabling controlled multi-tenant AI platforms. Beyond resource isolation, controlled execution is becoming a first-class concern. Deterministic execution models, state snapshotting, replay mechanisms, and execution tracing are increasingly relevant for debugging distributed AI systems, ensuring reproducibility of training runs, and governing agentic behavior across heterogeneous infrastructure. I/O and accelerator virtualization enable efficient sharing of GPUs and high-speed interconnects, while network virtualization supports dynamic formation of distributed training clusters and AI execution graphs across supercomputing and hybrid cloud environments. Emerging unified memory architectures and accelerator-aware virtualization further blur traditional system boundaries. Publication Accepted papers will be published in a Springer LNCS proceedings volume. Topics of Interest The VHPC program committee solicits original, high-quality submissions on virtualization and containerization technologies as foundational enablers of AI-driven HPC and cloud infrastructures. We particularly encourage contributions that address large-scale AI training, distributed inference, agentic workloads, heterogeneous accelerators, and secure multi-tenant execution. Each topic includes aspects of design, architecture, management, performance modeling, measurement, and tooling. 1. AI-Native and Data-Driven Management is important and promising for Measurement in Networking since it will enable automatic optimization and network management. Over the years, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) have become increasingly pervasive in networking and communications, playing a key role in the development, deployment, and management of next-generation networks. Current research trends show how AI can enhance 5G networks at at the RAN, Edge, and Core layers, using measured data coming from multiple entities. While AI adoption in 5G has been an evolving process, 6G is envisioned as truly AI-native. The next generation of mobile networks will embed "connected intelligence" throughout its architecture, leveraging AI for network design, optimization, and autonomous operation. In 6G, AI will not only enhance network performance but also enable and support AI-driven services running seamlessly across the entire network from the user equipment to the network core. Through this AI-native framework, the network will be capable of analyzing real-time data to jointly orchestrate functions such as scheduling, network slicing, and strategic planning. AI technologies in fact, expand new potential in the optimization of the full end-to-end chain of the physical layer, from the transmitter to the receiver, enabling self-optimization by combining advanced sensing and data collection also introducing the capability to consider network metrics, such as current spectrum, power conditions, and number of connections, evolving because of signal reflections off buildings and weather patterns for constant re-optimization. Monitoring of real-time environmental and contextual data is a promising enabler for ML-based air interface optimization, leading to more efficient spectrum use and reduced latency. Not only, nowadays, AI is now further enhanced and made more interpretable through XAI methodologies, which allow us to better understand how the algorithms operate and which features are most relevant for predictions. We invite submissions to the Workshop on Reproducible and Sustainable HPC Benchmarking (RS-HPCBench-2026), held in conjunction with ICS 2026 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, UK on Monday, July 6, 2026, 09:00–17:00. The Workshop on Reproducible and Sustainable HPC Benchmarking brings together experts from HPC centers and vendors around the world to present and discuss similarities and differences among reproducibility and sustainability of test frameworks for HPC systems. The workshop will include a series of paper presentations from peer-reviewed accepted submissions followed by a hands on component. This combined presentation and hands on format workshop will bring together experts from HPC centers and vendors around the world to present and discuss similarities and differences among reproducibility and sustainabiity of test frameworks for HPC systems. The workshop will encourage submissions highlighting current benchmarks, reproducibility tests, and procedures utilized in today’s HPC systems. This is supported by the widespread use of computing architectures based on multi-core processors or distributed computing units, which have become a de facto standard at any system scale. However, the increasing level of hardware parallelism and heterogeneity has made concurrent and distributed systems even more challenging to design, analyse and optimize. In particular, this concerns factors like performance and energy efficiency, which are known to be highly interrelated. Nevertheless, they play key roles, especially given the recent rise in energy demand from many IT applications. Examples include AI model training and inference, Big Data Analytics, high-performance computing and simulation, cryptography, high-resolution video encoding, and many more besides. In concurrent and distributed systems, energy efficiency and performance are affected in complex ways by multiple factors, such as the concurrent use of computing resources, the distributed communication, the presence of (distributed) data dependencies and the need to synchronize the execution of concurrent threads/processes. However, these and other factors also offer opportunities to be explored in the design of techniques and tools for improving both energy efficiency and performance. PECS aims to establish a venue for both academia and industry to discuss challenges and perspectives, and to explore methods, techniques and tools, for energy efficiency and performance analysis and optimization in concurrent and distributed systems. Therefore, PECS does not accept papers that focus exclusively on performance while completely ignoring energy aspects. Papers are expected to include at least some measurements and/or relevant considerations related to energy usage of systems under consideration. Papers that do not meet these requirements may be rejected prior to the review process. Papers should present novel contributions and should not have been submitted for publication elsewhere. Papers must be written in English, with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 12 pages, including text, references, appendices, figures and any other elements. Papers with less than 10 pages are considered short and can be presented at the workshop, but they will not appear in the workshop proceedings. Submission Guidelines Paper Types We invite the following types of submissions: • Full Papers (up to 18 pages excluding references): Research papers must present original, unpublished work with validated results through empirical evaluation, formal analysis, or implementation-based experiments. Submissions must clearly articulate the problem, its relevance, the proposed contribution, and validation results. • Short Papers (6 - 8 pages excluding references): Short papers present early-stage research, novel ideas, or conceptual proposals that are not yet fully developed or validated but offer promising directions. These papers should articulate the vision, motivation, and potential impact. Submissions will be double- anonymous and reviewed by at least three experts. Submissions will be evaluated based on their novelty, relevance, rigor, transparency, and presentation. Authors of submissions to the first deadline might be invited to submit a revision of their papers to the second deadline, which will be reviewed as a revision. Revisions Research-track papers can be submitted to the first or second cycle. In the first cycle, papers can receive the following decisions: accept, revision, or reject. Revision means that the reviewers believe that the paper has potential, but that its quality or contribution is not yet ready for publication. Such papers are offered lightweight shepherding by a community member, who is not necessarily a PC member or reviewer. Revised papers should be submitted to the second cycle together with a response letter, explaining how the reviewer comments were addressed. They are then reviewed by the same PC members. Papers rejected in the first cycle can be resubmitted in the second cycle, but need to contain an appendix “Changes to First-Cycle Submission” at the end of the PDF (after references, regardless of the page limit) that lists the major changes in bullet-point format. Best Paper Awards Springer will sponsor the awards for bet papers with an overall amount of €1000. Journal Special Issue Selected accepted papers will be invited to submit extended versions with at least 30% additional and original material, to be published in a special issue in a reputable Software Engineering journal (currently under negotiation). Notice that papers are reviewed as soon as they are received. As High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems approach the exascale era and beyond, the complexity of applications, architectures, and workloads is rapidly increasing. Traditional static resource allocation models—where resources are fixed at job launch—are proving inadequate to fully exploit the potential of modern HPC infrastructures. Emerging applications such as multi-physics simulations, large-scale AI training, digital twins, and adaptive mesh refinement demand dynamic and irregular resource usage. At the same time, HPC systems are becoming increasingly heterogeneous and distributed, integrating CPUs, GPUs, FPGAs, SmartNICs, and even quantum accelerators, all within energy-constrained environments. In this context, Dynamic Resource Management (DRM) is a key enabler for performance, scalability, energy efficiency, and system throughput. DRM allows applications and runtimes to adapt resource usage at runtime, meeting the needs of future scientific and industrial workloads. This special issue aims to provide a timely forum for consolidating advances in DRM and fostering cross-fertilization between the HPC, cloud, and distributed computing communities. We invite original contributions that advance the theory, algorithms, software, and systems for dynamic resource management in HPC. Call for Pre-proposals to host the IEEE Cluster 2029 Conference

Dear Colleagues, IEEE Cluster is a highly successful conference series that has been ongoing for more than 25 years. With this email, we invite pre-proposals to host IEEE Cluster 2029. As per IEEE Cluster's traditional US-Europe-US-Asia rotation, we anticipate selection of a bid from the US for Cluster 2029. However, this rotation is not a strict requirement, so proposals from other locations will also be considered without any bias. We are also interested in locations that do not fall under the traditional US-Europe-US-Asia model: Canada, Mexico, South America, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand. Pre-proposals are simple two-slide decks. The first slide introduces the location and the second slide introduces the key organizers (i.e., the General Chair(s) and the Program Chair(s)). For the selection process, the following are a subset of the steering committee's considerations: - Whether the location has been visited by IEEE Cluster in the recent past. New locations are encouraged, although older locations will also be considered, if the conference was not held there recently. Locations that have good flight connectivity and a good local presence of researchers working in the area of Cluster computing are better suited for the conference. - Whether the key organizing committee (i.e., the General Chair(s) and Program Chair(s)) has experience with organizing conferences and in particular with IEEE Cluster. If you have been involved with IEEE Cluster in the past (e.g., as an attendee, through publications, as a volunteer PC member or chair), the proposal would be given higher priority. Pre-proposals are due on May 29, 2026, and notifications are expected to be sent out in late June. All pre-proposals should be sent to the steering committee chair, Kathryn Mohror (mohror1(a)llnl.gov) for consideration. The intent is to accept a single pre-proposal, which would then be invited to submit a full proposal (example pre-proposals and full proposals can be provided upon request). However, the steering committee reserves the right to invite multiple pre-proposals to submit full proposals.
