What application domains are best suited to benefit from Big Data analytics and computing? What are the traits and characteristics of an application that make it suited to exploit Big Data analytics? How can Big Data systems and frameworks be designed to allow the integration and analysis of complex data sets? How can research in Big Data Analytics benefit from the latest advances in supercomputing and High Performance Computing (HPC) architectures? The goal of this workshop is to address questions like these that are fundamental to the advancement of Big Data computing, and in the process, build a diverse research community that has a shared vision to advance the state of knowledge and discovery through Big Data computing. Topics of interest include research contributions and innovative methods in the following areas (but not limited to): * Scalable tools, techniques and technologies for Big Data analytics (e.g., graph and stream data analysis, machine learning and emerging deep learning methods) * Algorithms and Programming Models for Big Data * Big Data applications - Challenges and Solutions (e.g., life sciences, health informatics, geoinformatics, climate, socio-cultural dynamics, business analytics, cybersecurity) * Scalable Big Data systems, platforms, services, and management * Big Data toolkits, workflows, metrics, and provenance. We invite paper submissions that describe original research contributions in the area of Big Data computing, and position papers that highlight the potential challenges and opportunities that arise in Big Data computing. We also invite short papers that describe work-in-progress original research. Regular papers can be up to 8 pages long and short papers can be up to 4 pages long. All submissions will undergo rigorous peer-review by the technical program committee, and accepted manuscripts will appear in the HiPC workshop ("HIPCW") proceedings and will be indexed by IEEE digital library. ================================================================= 2017 Workshop on Open Source Supercomputing (OpenSuCo-2017) Denver, CO, USA Held in conjunction with SC17 CALL FOR PAPERS http://www.opensuco.community/ ================================================================= Increased specialization is an effective way for the HPC to continue performance scaling at the end of MOSFET scaling. To decrease design cost - in both money and time, rapid hardware prototyping methods combined with flexible software stacks and programming models must to be explored. Open source solutions may provide the best opportunities for specialization and the OpenSuCo Workshop seeks to encapsulate a wealth of effort in design, prototyping, and cross-functional collaboration of open source hardware, software, and scientific computing projects in a singular point of technical discussion and exchange. As the limits of MOSFET/Dennard scaling grow ever closer, the high performance/technical computing community continually seeks new methods by which to continue scaling system performance and, potentially, system efficiency. The goal of this workshop is to engage the HPC community and explore open-source solutions for constructing an HPC system – from silicon to applications. The main goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and practitioners to exchange ideas, present and discuss their most recent achievements and lessons learned addressing the challenges related to Business Process Monitoring and Assessment in a Cloud/ multi-Cloud environment. Cloud computing has emerged as a paradigm for the use and delivery of resources. It received high acceptance while transforming the support of on-demand access, economics of scale and dynamic sourcing alternatives. Different IT resources and capabilities are available in the context of cloud computing (such as: business processes, services, networking) facilitating rapid provisioning, flexible pricing, elastic scaling and resilience. Although Business Process Management has matured as a scientific field and as an industry practice, it is not yet fully explored in the context of cloud computing. Cloud computing provides new opportunities for sharing and configuring business processes and services. This brings numerous challenges for monitoring and analysing business processes and services executed in the cloud. This workshop aims at addressing this gap. By bringing together experts working on different levels of the cloud stack (e.g., systems, storage, networking platforms, applications), this workshop offers a unique ground for researchers and practitioners to foster research and its applications in practice by addressing the challenges in the areas of cloud computing and business process management. This workshop seeks to provide researchers and practitioners a forum to exchange information on theories and principles, emerging technologies, tools and practical experiences related to Business Process Monitoring and Performance Analysis in the context of Cloud Computing. Besides providing a mix of technical and business presentations, this workshop will include a keynote. This competition will feature posters from undergraduate and graduate students showcasing original student research. The ACM SRC pre-selection will happen during the poster reception and selected poster presenters will be given the opportunity to present their work in short talks on Wednesday. While significant advances in verification, testing, and debugging have been made to isolate software errors (or defects) in the context of non-HPC software, several factors make achieving correctness in HPC applications and systems much more challenging than in general systems software: growing heterogeneity (architectures with CPUs, GPUs, and special purpose accelerators), massive scale computations (very high degree of concurrency), use of combined parallel programing models (e.g., MPI+X), new scalable numerical algorithms (e.g., to leverage reduced precision in floating-point arithmetic), and aggressive compiler optimizations/transformations are some of the challenges that make correctness harder in HPC. The following report lays out the key challenges and research areas of HPC correctness: https://arxiv.org/abs/1705.07478. As the complexity of future architectures, algorithms, and applications in HPC increases, the ability to fully exploit exascale systems will be limited without correctness. With the continuous use of HPC software to advance scientific and technological capabilities, novel techniques and practical tools for software correctness in HPC are invaluable. The goal of the Correctness Workshop is to bring together researchers and developers to present and discuss novel ideas to address the problem of correctness in HPC. The workshop will feature contributed papers and invited talks in this area. They provide a systematic way of describing a complex scientific process and rely on sophisticated workflow management systems to execute on a variety of parallel and distributed resources. With the dramatic increase of raw data volume in every domain, they play an even more critical role to assist scientists in organizing and processing their data and to leverage HPC or HTC resources, being at the interface between end-users and computing infrastructures. This workshop focuses on the many facets of data-intensive workflow management systems, ranging from actual execution to service management and the coordination and optimization of data, service and job dependencies. Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience (CC-PE) journal will publish a special issue dedicated to "Processors, Interconnects, Storage and Caches for Exascale Systems". Please submit your contribution to Manuscript Central (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/cpe) as "PISCES2017" special issue PURPOSE AND SCOPE: Exascale computing constitutes nowadays a significant challenge. Although traditional computer systems continue to making important advances, reaching exascale requires mass customization. With this aim, several ongoing research projects are focusing on different architectural (computing boards or nodes, interconnects, storage, etc) issues of future exascale systems. Most of them devise heterogeneous computing boards consisting of CPUs (high performance and/or low power), FPGAs, GPUs, accelerators, etc sharing a common memory hierarchy. In this context, efficient intra-, inter-board within the same rack and inter-rack interconnects with the memory hierarchies are required. Also, performance and reliability design constraints for exascale storage systems are significant challenges for HPC system designers. High performance I/O is an important aspect, because storing and retrieving such large amounts of data can greatly affect the overall performance of applications. Finally, it is important to characterize the demands that exascale applications exert on the different components of an exascale system. This special issue seeks to provide an opportunity for the researchers to present their original contributions on novel ways of tackling all these aspects of future HPC systems. TOPICS INCLUDE (BUT NOT LIMITED TO): - Heterogeneous node designs: CPU, GPUs/ Accelerators and FPGAs. - On-chip and off-chip cache designs. - Interconnects for Exascale: electrical and optical networks. - Cache coherence in Exascale Computing. - Coherent DRAM-based cache designs. - Storage in Exascale systems. - Power saving policies at different hardware levels. - Hardware prototyping (FPGA hardware implementation and timing and energy characterization). - Applications characterization (bandwidth requirement, traffic, scalability, …) for exascale computing.
