The *29th Forum on Specification & Design Languages (FDL 2026)* will take place in *Rome, Italy, *from September 9 to 11, 2026*, at Guglielmo Marconi University*, and will be preceded by the *FDL 2026 Summer School on September 8*. FDL is a long-standing international forum bringing together researchers, practitioners, and industry experts interested in the specification, design, verification, and implementation of complex hardware and software systems. The conference provides a unique opportunity to discuss emerging methodologies, languages, tools, and applications, while fostering interaction between academia and industry. The organizers of the Eighth Combined Workshop on Interactive and Urgent High-Performance Computing (WIUHPC) invite submissions of abstracts for 10-minute lightning talks at our workshop at SC '26 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Important Details Abstract submission deadline: 20th September 2026 Presenter notification: 25th September 2026 Workshop date: 20th November 2026 (morning session) Abstract submissions to: mailto:[email protected] Workshop Scope Interactivity transforms High-Performance Computing (HPC) by bringing users directly into the loop immediately before, after, and during job executions, opening new possibilities beyond traditional batch processing. By enabling live data integration, mid-simulation steering, and rapid iteration, experimentation, and prototyping, interactive HPC allows users to explore complex computational problems dynamically across diverse fields like space weather research and resource management. Crucially, this live interaction also serves as a vital tool for urgent computing, empowering responders to make life-critical decisions during rapidly unfolding events like natural disasters and global pandemics. However, enabling interactivity on supercomputers requires overcoming steep technical and policy challenges across multiple disciplines, and current isolated efforts lead to much duplicated work. To address this gap, this workshop merges two previously successful SC initiatives - UrgentHPC and InteractiveHPC - into a single unified effort. Recognizing that interactivity is a critical enabler for urgent workloads and that both domains share common technical and policy hurdles, combining them maximizes community impact. The workshop brings together stakeholders, researchers, and practitioners to share success stories, case studies, and technical challenges. Ultimately, this collaboration aims to align community activities, eliminate duplicate effort, and unlock the full potential of supercomputing for rapid exploration and time-critical, high-stakes decision-making. Workshop Topics We invite submissions of abstract for 10-minute lightning talks about late breaking research results, works-in-progress, or interesting problems and challenges related to interactive and/or urgent usage of HPC systems. Topics of interest for this workshop include (but are not limited to): * Example use-cases and case-studies that use HPC for interactivity and/or urgent decision making * Techniques for integrating HPC workflows with data driven approaches * Approaches to verify and validate unreliable real-time data, for instance from sensors, IoT, and satellites * System design for data reduction and pre-processing at source, for instance using edge computing and heterogeneous resources such as FPGAs * Implementation experiences and lessons learned by staff at HPC centers * Algorithmic techniques to guarantee result generation in specific time frames, such as result refinement which generates more accurate results as time progresses * Studies of leveraging HPC for workloads with real-time time constraints * Changes to existing HPC technologies and policies that are required to support using HPC interactively * The ability for HPC codes to adapt their resource requirements dynamically, for instance via elastic compute * Visualization and presentation techniques to support rapid and accurate urgent decision making by the end user * Reduction and feature extraction of results to highlight critical issues of interest * Complimenting results with provenance data for additional context and certainty * Maintaining security while providing interactivity in supercomputing * Strategies for leveraging interactivity for reproducible science * Impact of increased interactivity on how HPC centers operate * Use of AI surrogate models to reduce computation in urgent and emergency scenarios

7th WORKSHOP ON HETEROGENEITY AND MEMORY SYSTEMS (HMEM 2026) Co-located with SC26, Chicago, IL, November 16, 2026 https://hmem-workshop.github.io Overview and scope ==================== The 7th HMEM workshop serves as a forum to present and discuss ongoing research around heterogeneity and memory systems. The scope of the workshop encompasses all the layers of system and software stack, from computer architectures, operating system, middleware, programming models, runtime systems, tools, to applications. Heterogeneity is ubiquitous, not only in terms of processing units but also memories and networks. As heterogeneity increases, memory subsystems play an even more important role to attain performance, from their technology to the system architecture to the software management and programming model. While CPU-only compute nodes are becoming rare instances, heterogeneous memory architectures have recently emerged and revolutionized the traditional memory hierarchy. Today’s and upcoming architectures may well comprise multiple memory technologies next to DRAM, accelerators with dedicated memories, or even specific expansion cards hosting memory alone, such as: 3D-stacked memory, high-bandwidth multi-channel RAM, unified/shared memory on accelerators, Compute Express Link (CXL)-based architectures, persistent memory, or MRDIMMs. As in previous years, the Workshop on Heterogeneous Memory Systems, now rebranded as Heterogeneity and Memory Systems (HMEM), will bring together different research efforts and expertise to the end of integrating different approaches and democratizing the use of resource heterogeneity from a memory perspective, to benefit applications not only in terms of performance, but also energy efficiency and cost trade-offs. The main goal of the workshop is to push the research frontiers forward by exchanging knowledge and debating ideas through featured talks, technical paper presentations, and interactive discussions. Overall, topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * Resource heterogeneity (e.g., accelerators) and memory implications, including memory designs, data layouts, etc. * Data allocation and placement techniques in heterogeneous memory systems * Caching for heterogeneous memory systems * Programming models and tools for complex/heterogeneous memory hierarchies * Software-defined far memories * Disaggregated memory and in-memory computing * Data movement in heterogeneous memory systems * Memory consistency and persistency models * Data structures for heterogeneous memory infrastructures * Abstractions and support for failure-atomicity in persistent memory * Emerging memory architectures and system configurations * AI on heterogeneous memory systems and use of AI for heterogeneous memory systems * Use cases, early experiences and performance evaluations Submissions ==================== This is a traditional-style workshop without formal proceedings. The authors of accepted submissions will give a talk at the workshop and participate in the closing discussion panel. Additionally, authors will be invited to (optionally) upload their submitted paper (PDF) to be shared on the workshop website. A paper accepted to the HMEM workshop does not preclude its future publication at a major conference. Submissions must use the IEEE proceedings template (https://www.ieee.org/conferences/publishing/templates) two-column page format (U.S. letter – 8.5″ x 11″). We accept two types of submissions. A first type of submission includes position papers as well as papers that describe completed or early-stage work.
