CALL FOR APPLICATIONS Student Travel Award The 4th IEEE/ACM International Conference on Big Data Computing, Applications and Technologies (BDCAT 2017) Austin, TX, USA December 5 - 8 IMPORTANT DATES: Application Due: October 8, 2017 Notification of Awards: October 15, 2017 The ACM/IEEE BDCAT 2017 Organizing Committee is pleased to announce the availability of student travel grants sponsored by National Science Foundation (NSF) to support student attendance at the BDCAT conference. Students may also wish to refer to the separately available UCC 2017 student travel award program on the UCC 2017 site. Eligibility Criteria: To qualify, one of the following two criteria must be met: 1. The student is a full-time graduate student at an accredited U.S. institution. (U.S. citizenship is not required.) 2. The student is a full-time graduate student at an international institution, and will use the funds to cover their air fare, which is with a US carrier, or code shared with a US carrier. As per NSF regulations, US-based students will be given priority in the award review and selection process. US-based students may use the funds to cover their air, lodging, and/or registration cost. However, students with an international institution can only use the funds to cover their air fare with a US carrier. Student recipients will be reimbursed (based on valid receipts) after the conference. Reimbursement will be available only for one or the other of the UCC or BDCAT award programs, but applications may be submitted to both. Application Procedure: An application for a student travel grant will consist of the following documents. Incomplete applications will not be considered. A request letter from the student (see below). The student’s Curriculum Vitae. A recommendation letter from the student’s graduate advisor. The letter from the student should be at most one page, and include the following information: 1. Whether the student has an authored paper being accepted by BDCAT 2017 and the paper title (if available). Students with papers accepted by the conference will be given higher priority. 2. A brief summary of research interests. 3. Whether and when the student has received US NSF travel grants before. The advisor’s recommendation letter for the student should include: 1. Confirmation that student is a full-time Ph.D. or M.S. candidate at the given institution. 2. The suitability of the BDCAT 2017 program material to the student’s research area. 3. The advisor’s commitment to covering the student’s travel cost in excess of the travel grant. The ever-increasing number of cores and heterogeneity in architectures has placed new burdens on the programming community. Software needs to be parallelized and optimized for accelerators such as GPUs in order to take advantage of the new breed of multi-/many-core computers. As a result, progress in how to easily harness the computing power of multi-core architectures is in great demand. The eleventh edition of the MULTIPROG workshop aims to bring together researchers interested in programming models, runtimes, and computer architecture. This year, special focus will be on the challenging issues related to all the opportunities of computing, sensing and communication in the era of the integration of Internet of Things, Cloud Computing, and Big Data. The Workshops Committee of SMARTCOMP 2018 invites proposals for half or full day workshops affiliated with the conference, on topics of interest to SMARTCOMP 2018 attendees. The purpose of these workshops is to create new opportunities for presenting novel ideas in a less formal and possibly more sharply focused way than at the conference itself. Factors such as limited power budgets, clock frequency variability, heterogeneous load imbalance, hierarchical memories, and shrinking I/O bandwidths will make it increasingly difficult to create high-performance applications. Tools for debugging, performance measurement and analysis, and tuning will be needed to overcome the architectural, system, and programming complexities envisioned in exascale environments. At the same time, research and development progress for HPC tools faces equally difficult challenges from exascale factors. Increased emphasis on autotuning, dynamic monitoring and adaptation, heterogeneous analysis, and so on will require new methodologies, techniques, and engagement with application teams. This workshop will serve as a forum for HPC application developers, system designers, and tools researchers to discuss the requirements for exascale-enabled tools and the roadblocks that need to be addressed. The workshop is the sixth in a series of successful SC conference workshops organized by the Virtual Institute - High Productivity Supercomputing (VI-HPS), an international initiative of HPC researchers and developers focused on parallel programming and performance tools for large-scale systems. We would appreciate if you could circulate this email to colleagues, students and relevant mailing lists. ----- Dear colleagues, We would like to announce the 12th Marathon of Parallel Programming, an HPC programming contest for multicore and manycore computer architecture. This Marathon is a high-level competition whose goal is to promote new developments in Parallel and Distributed Programming. Each team consists of three (3) students and a coach. They have 5 hours to solve up to 9 problems. For local contest, the teams can bring printed hard copy material (e.g. books, manuals, notes, papers). There will be a special session that allow remote teams to join the contest. Check rules & restrictions on the web site to know better this category. TPNC 2017: call for posters*To be removed from our mailing list, please respond to this message with UNSUBSCRIBE in the subject line* ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The 6th International Conference on the Theory and Practice of Natural Computing (TPNC 2017) invites researchers to submit poster presentations. TPNC 2017 will be held in Prague on December 18-20, 2017. See http://grammars.grlmc.com/TPNC2017/ Poster presentations are intended to enhance informal interactions with conference participants, at the same time allowing for in-depth discussion. TOPICS Presentations displaying novel work in progress on computational principles, models and techniques inspired by information processing in nature are invited. Posters do not need to show final research results. Work that might lead to new interesting developments is welcome. KEY DATES Poster submission deadline: November 11, 2017 Notification of poster acceptance or rejection: November 18, 2017 SUBMISSION Please submit a .pdf abstract through: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=tpnc2017 It should contain the title, author(s) and affiliation, and should not exceed 500 words. PRESENTATION Posters will be allocated 10 minutes each in the programme for oral presentation. Moreover, they will remain hanging out during the whole conference for discussion. PUBLICATION Posters will not appear in the LNCS proceedings volume of TPNC 2017. However, they will be eligible for submission to the post-conference journal special issue in BioSystems (Elsevier, 2015 JCR impact factor: 1.495). REGISTRATION At least one author of each accepted poster must register to the conference by December 4, 2017. The registration fare is reduced: 285 Euro. It gives the same rights all other conference participants have (attendance, copy of the proceedings volume, coffee breaks, lunches). Contributors of regular papers who in addition get a poster accepted must register for the latter independently.
