We invite you to submit unpublished work to the IEEE LDAV 2021 Poster Program. It is a venue designed to highlight ongoing research and late breaking topics that have produced promising preliminary results. The poster program will be a great opportunity for the authors to interact with the symposium attendees and solicit feedback. The poster program also welcomes submissions that showcase successful stories of applying visualization to large-scale data intensive applications, and highlights of recent visualization work presented or published in another venue. # Important Dates Two-page Poster Paper Submission August 15, 2021, 11:59 PM (AOE) Author Notification August 19, 2021 Camera-Ready Deadline August 26, 2021 Symposium October 25, 2021 # Poster 2-Page Summary Submission Instructions Interested authors should submit a two-page summary that describes the underlying problem, the proposed method, and preliminary results. Accepted summaries will be included in the symposium proceedings. The format of the summary will be the same as the format used for the regular paper submission. Poster authors are encouraged, but not required, to include a draft or sketch of the poster layout and content in their submission. This would help reviewers and show that the poster format is used effectively. The draft poster should be in PDF format. The authors should indicate if they would like the poster to be accompanied by an on-site demonstration and/or videos. Such demo/video presentations have to be self-organized. Submitted summaries may not exceed the maximum of two pages in length including references. The summary should be formatted according to guidelines available on the IEEE VGTC Website. The ACM SRC Committee selects a set of winners based on poster content and presentation quality. December 6-9, 2021 *FMEC 2021 CFP:* Cloud computing provides a large range of services and virtually unlimited available resources for users. New applications, such as virtual reality and smart building control, have emerged due to the large number of resources and services brought by cloud computing. However, the delay-sensitive applications face the problem of large latency, especially when several smart devices and objects are getting involved in human’s life such as the case of smart cities or the Internet of Things. Therefore, cloud computing is unable to meet the requirements of low latency, location awareness, and mobility support. To solve this problem, researchers have introduced a trusted and dependable solution through the Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing (FMEC) to put the services and resources of the cloud closer to users, which facilitates the leveraging of available services and resources in the edge networks. By this, we are moving from the core (cloud data centers) to the edge of the network closer to the users. FMEC dependability is based on providing user centric service. The purpose of Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing is to run the heavy real-time applications at the network edge directly using the billions of connected mobile devices. Several features enable the Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing to be a perfect paradigm to the aforementioned purpose, which are the dense geographical deployment of servers, supporting mobility and the closeness to users. As in every new technology, some challenges face the vision of the Fog and the Mobile Edge Computing, which are the administrative policies and security concerns (i.e. secure data storage, secure computation, network security, data privacy, usage privacy, location privacy, etc). FMEC 2021 conference aims to investigate the opportunities and requirements for Mobile Edge Computing dominance. In addition, it seeks for novel contributions that help mitigating Mobile Edge Computing challenges. ======================================================================== CALL FOR PAPERS Third international workshop on HPC for Urgent Decision making (UrgentHPC) In conjunction with SC21: The International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis, Friday morning November 19, 2021, St. Louis, MO, USA https://www.urgenthpc.com ======================================================================== Paper submission deadline: August 28, 2021 (AoE) Author notification: September 18, 2021 Camera ready deadline: September 30, 2021 Workshop: Friday morning, 19th November 2021 Scope ===== Responding to disasters such as COVID-19, wildfires, hurricanes, extreme flooding, earthquakes, tsunamis, and accidents; technological advances are creating exciting new opportunities that have the potential to move HPC well beyond traditional computational workloads. Whilst HPC has a long history of simulating disasters, what’s missing to support emergency, urgent, decision making is fast, real-time acquisition of data and the ability to guarantee time constraints. Our ability to capture data continues to grow very significantly, and combining high velocity data and live analytics with HPC models can aid in urgently responding to real-world problems, ultimately saving lives and reducing economic loss. It’s not just responding to disasters, but also making urgent decisions addressing more general issues such as human health emergencies and global diseases. The challenges here are significant, but if HPC can be proven as a tool in responding to these real-world issues, the impact for our community is huge. Leveraging HPC for urgent decision making requires expertise in a wide range of areas, from dealing with real-time data, to experience in generating results within a specific time frame (real-time constraints), and generating visualisations enabling front-line decision makers to make correct choices first time, every time. It isn’t just technical challenges, but also policy issues that also need to be considered such as utilising our HPC machines in a more interactive manner to enable the urgent exploration of numerous disaster responses. This workshop will bring together stakeholders, researchers and practitioners from across the HPC community to identify and tackle issues involved in using HPC for urgent decision making. Success stories, case-studies and challenges will be shared, with the goal of further building up a community around leveraging HPC as an important tool in urgently responding to disasters and societal challenges. Call for Papers ============ We invite you to submit both full and hot-topic research papers detailing original work in the area of using HPC for making urgent decisions. The Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics is proud to present the Conference on Parallel Processing for Scientific Computing. This series of conferences has played a key role in promoting parallel scientific computing, algorithms for parallel systems, and parallel numerical algorithms. The conference is unique in its emphasis on the intersection between high performance scientific computing and scalable algorithms, architectures, and software. The conference provides a forum for communication among the applied mathematics, computer science, and computational science and engineering communities. Included Themes • Compilers and programming systems • Data analysis and visualization • Education in HPC • Fault-tolerance • Large-scale parallel applications • Parallel computer systems • Performance analysis, tuning, and debugging • Reproducibility • Scalable parallel algorithms • Scientific workflows Minisymposia A minisymposium generally consists of four 25-minute presentations, with an additional five minutes for discussion after each presentation. To ensure balance, SIAM prefers a single individual not be the organizer or co-organizer of more than one minisymposium, however, organizers can submit up to three (3) parts per minisymposium, allowing up to twelve (12) speakers. In addition, SIAM discourages minisymposia in which most of the speakers or co-authors come from the same institution. A minisymposium comprised of multiple parts (up to 3) will be counted as a SINGLE minisymposium. SIAM also requests speakers submit only one oral presentation, either a minisymposium presentation or contributed lecture. Minisymposium session organizers and individual speakers are equally responsible for ensuring participants adhere to the one talk per person rule. It is recommended the first speaker provide an overview of the topic area. Each minisymposium speaker should submit an abstract no longer than 1,500 characters, including spaces. The organizing committee will referee minisymposium proposals. The number of minisymposia may be limited to retain an acceptable level of parallelism in sessions. SIAM requires minisymposium organizers propose sessions with a minimum of three (3) confirmed speakers by the minisymposium submission deadline. Sessions submitted with a majority of speakers listed as “TBD/TBA,” or using placeholders, risk immediate rejection. Prospective minisymposium organizers must submit a proposal consisting of a title, a description (not to exceed 1,500 characters, including spaces), a list of speakers, and presentation titles using the Conference Management System. Deadline for submission of minisymposium proposals: August 24, 2021 (11:59 p.m. AoE) Deadline for submission of minisymposium speaker abstracts: September 14, 2021 (11:59 p.m. AoE) Contributed Presentations in Lecture or Poster Format Contributed presentations in lecture or poster format are invited in all areas consistent with the conference themes. A lecture format is generally a 15-minute oral presentation with an additional five (5) minutes for discussion. Talk lengths will be determined by the co-chairs at the close of submissions. SIAM also requests speakers submit only one oral presentation, either a minisymposium presentation or contributed lecture. A poster format involves the use of non-electronic visual aids for mounting on a 4’ x 8’ poster board. A poster session is two hours long. Each contributor, either for a lecture or a poster, must submit a title and a brief abstract not to exceed 1,500 characters, including spaces. A poster may be presented in addition to a talk, provided the talk and the poster are on different topics. Please submit contributed presentations in lecture or poster format using the Conference Management System.
