IEEE Cluster 2016 Call for Papers http://www.ieeecluster2016.org/ IEEE Cluster 2016 is the 18th edition of the IEEE Cluster conference series. Clusters are the primary architecture for building today's rapidly evolving cloud and HPC infrastructures, and are used to solve some of the most complex problems. The challenge to make them scalable, efficient, and more functional requires a community effort in the areas of cluster system design, management and monitoring, at the hardware, system, middleware and application levels. Following the successes of previous IEEE Cluster conferences (http://www.clustercomp.org/) for IEEE Cluster 2016, which will be held September 12-16, 2016 in Taipei Taiwan, we again solicit high-quality original work that advances the state-of-the-art in clusters and closely related fields. All papers will be rigorously peer-reviewed for their originality, technical depth and correctness, potential impact, relevance to the conference, and quality of presentation. Research papers must clearly demonstrate novel research contributions while papers reporting experiences must clearly describe lessons learned and impact, along with the utility of the approach compared to previous ones. In some fields, such as social sciences, these models are seen as a key instrument to the generative approach, essential for understanding complex social phenomena. But also in policy-making, biology, military simulations, control of mobile robots and economics, the relevance and effectiveness of Agent-Based Simulation Models is recently recognized. Computer science community has responded to the need for platforms that can help the development and testing of new models in each specific field by providing tools, libraries and frameworks that speed up and make massive simulations possible.The key objective of this Third Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Agent-Based Simulations is to bring together the researchers that are interested in getting more performances from their simulations, by using synchronized, many-core simulations (e.g., GPUs), strongly coupled, parallel simulations (e.g. MPI) and loosely coupled, distributed simulations (distributed heterogeneous setting). Several frameworks have been recently developed and are active in this field. They range from the GPU-Manycore approach, to Parallel, to Distributed simulation environments. In the first category, you can find FLAME GPU, that allows also non GPU specialists to harness the GPUs performance for real time simulation and visualization. For tightly-coupled, large computing clusters and supercomputers a very popular framework is Repast for High Performance Computing (REPAST-HPC), a C++ based modeling system. On the distributed side, recent work on Distributed Mason, allows non specialists to use heterogeneous hardware and software in local area networks for enlarging the size and speeding up the simulation of complex Agent-Based models. Topics of interest ============= - Frameworks for parallel/distributed ABSs. - Case studies of ABSs in parallel/distributed settings, with an emphasis on the technical implementation, architectural choices and their impact on performances. - Benchmark parallel/distributed ABSs. - Open benchmark models contributing towards OpenAB initiative ( www.openab.org) - Debugging parallel/distributed ABSs. - Formal methods and algorithms for ABSs in parallel/distributed models. - Load Balancing algorithms, techniques and frameworks. - Management and deployment of parallel/distributed ABSs. - Visualization of parallel/distributed ABSs. Cloud providers need to manage complex infrastructures in a seamless fashion to support the highly dynamic and heterogeneous workloads and hosted applications customers deploy. Similarly, HPC environments have been increasingly adopting techniques that enable flexible management of vast computing and networking resources, close to marginal provisioning cost, which is unprecedented in the history of scientific and commercial computing. Various virtualization technologies contribute to the overall picture in different ways: machine virtualization, with its capability to enable consolidation of multiple underutilized servers with heterogeneous software and operating systems (OSes), and its capability to live-migrate a fully operating virtual machine (VM) with a very short downtime, enables novel and dynamic ways to manage physical servers; OS-level virtualization (i.e., containerization), with its capability to isolate multiple user-space environments and to allow for their coexistence within the same OS kernel, promises to provide many of the advantages of machine virtualization with high levels of responsiveness and performance; I/O Virtualization allows physical NICs/HBAs to take traffic from multiple VMs or containers; network virtualization, with its capability to create logical network overlays that are independent of the underlying physical topology and IP addressing, provides the fundamental ground on top of which evolved network services can be realized with an unprecedented level of dynamicity and flexibility; the increasingly adopted paradigm of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) promises to extend this flexibility to the control and data planes of network paths. Topics of Interest The VHPC program committee solicits original, high-quality submissions related to virtualization across the entire software stack with a special focus on the intersection of HPC and the cloud. It is in all the computational environments, from mobile devices, laptops and desktops to clusters of multicore nodes and supercomputers, comprising in most cases one or several coprocessors of different types (GPU, MIC, FPGA). In this context, it is vital to train new generations of scientists and engineers in the use of these computational systems, so parallelism topics must be incorporated in Computer Science (CS) and Computer Engineering (CE) programs. In 2010 the IEEE Computer Society Technical Committee on Parallel Processing launched the Curriculum Initiative on Parallel and Distributed Computing, with Core Topics for Undergraduates, and in 2011 started the workshop EduPar, dedicated to Parallel and Distributed Computing Education. Given the differences in education in different parts of the world, the Euro-EDUPAR workshop aims to analyze PDC Education in a European context, i.e. the structure and organization of European education. The 2nd European Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Computing Education for Undergraduate Students (Euro-EDUPAR) invites unpublished manuscripts from individuals or teams from academia, industry, and other educational and research institutes on topics pertaining to the teaching of PDC topics in the Computer Science and Engineering curriculum as well as in Computational Science and with PDC and high performance computing (HPC) concepts, with emphasis on European undergraduate teaching, and the workshop especially seeks papers that report on experiences incorporating PDC topics into undergraduate core courses taken by the majority of students on a degree course. Methods, pedagogical approaches, tools, and techniques that have potential for adoption across the European teaching community are of particular interest. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to: 1. Parallel and Distributed Computing teaching in the European space 2. Pedagogical issues in PDC, educational methods and learning mechanisms 3. Novel ways of teaching PDC topics, including informal learning environments 4. Curriculum design, models for incorporating PDC topics in core CS/CE curriculum 5. Experience with incorporating PDC topics into core CS/CE courses 6. Experience with incorporating PDC topics in the context of other applications learning 7. Pedagogical tools, programming environments, and languages for PDC 8. e-Learning, e-Laboratory, Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC), Small Private Online Courses (SPOC) 9. PDC experiences at non-university levels; secondary school, postgraduate, industry, diffusion of PDC SUBMISSION GUIDELINES The submissions will follow the Euro-Par guidelines, in PDF format, and should not exceed 12 pages in the Springer LNCS style, which can be downloaded from the Springer Web site. Paper submission is handled electronically (EasyChair). The 12-page limit is comprehensive (text, figures, references). Complete LaTeX sources must be provided for accepted papers. Short papers and work-in-progress papers can be submitted and presented at the workshop, but they will not be eligible for the post-conference proceedings. Submissions will be reviewed according to impact at European level, the novelty of contributions, impact on broader undergraduate curriculum, relevance to the goals of the workshop, the results and methodology. The workshop proceedings will be published in a LNCS workshop volume after the conference. Only long papers (10-12 pages) positively reviewed by at least 3 referees and presented at the workshop will be considered for inclusion in the workshop proceedings.
