Heterogeneous multicore/manycore processors provide a promising opportunity to achieve better performance together with power efficiency. However, the complexity of the architecture, microarchitecture, software applications, and system software presents a challenging problem. The varying requirements of the different applications running on a single machine, the changing behavior of a single application during its lifetime, as well as the ever-changing characteristics of multiprogramming environment make the design and programming of heterogeneous architectures a big challenge. The Heterogeneous Architecture: Software and Hardware workshop provides a high-quality forum for computer scientists and engineers to present their latest research findings in the rapidly evolving field of heterogeneous architecture where the heterogeneouity can be in the form of cores of different strength, general purpose cores and GPUs, cores with different memory hierarchies, accelerators, etc; as well as their interconnect. The interaction among the different layers of the stack is part of the objectives, which involves compilers, OS, and programming models. Cloud computing has been envisaged to be one of the main- stream powering technologies of future IT systems. This symposium focuses on techniques, experiences, applications, and lessons learned for interoperable services in the cloud, particularly in the realms of high performance computing. For instance, HPC may be used for the construction of mathematical models and numerical solutions and techniques for solving scientific, socio-scientific and engineering problems. It often requires a huge number of computing and storage resources to perform large-scale analyses and experiments. Users could get access to their own virtualized HPC cluster in a self-service, dynamically scalable and fully configurable environment. Cloud computing can address many of the aforementioned concerns. Such a computing paradigm shift provides a flexible high performance computing environment. However, without new approaches for energy- and thermally-efficient design, as well as scalable, low power and high bandwidth on-chip communication architectures, this vision may remain a pipe dream. Towards this end, wireless Network-on-Chip (WiNoC) represents an emerging paradigm for designing low power, high bandwidth interconnect infrastructure for multicore chips. This tutorial will provide a timely and insightful journey into various challenges and emerging solutions of designing WiNoC architectures from a variety of different perspectives, ranging from very high levels of abstraction (e.g., system architecture) to very low levels (e.g., on-chip antenna and transceiver design). The tutorial will start by discussing the fundamentals of network-based communication for 2D and 3D multicore systems and advanced design techniques for multi-domain clock and power management for embedded and high-performance processors, using real examples of multicore platforms. The second part of the tutorial will focus on the design of high bandwidth and low power WiNoC architectures incorporating the small-world effects. We will present detailed performance evaluation and necessary design trade-offs for the small-world WiNoCs with respect to their conventional wireline counterparts. We will conclude this part of the tutorial by presenting design of on-chip millimeter (mm)-wave wireless link as the suitable physical layer for the WiNoCs. In the last part, we will complement the above discussions regarding planar WiNoCs by introducing the wireless 3D NoCs that use inductive coupling though-chip interfaces (TCIs) to connect stacked chips by square coils as data transmitters. We will present design and implementation of wireless 3D NoC systems, real-chip experimental results, and their interconnection techniques. These approaches fall into two major categories: meta-heuristics (evolutionary algorithms, particle swarm, ant or bee colonies, simulated annealing, Tabu search, etc.) and exact methods (Branch-and-X, dynamic programming, etc.). Nowadays, optimization problems become increasingly large and complex, forcing the use of parallel computing for their efficient and effective resolution. On the other hand, multi and many-core computing (e.g. GPU, FPGA) has recently undergone a significant evolution with the emergence of new high performance computing environments. Indeed, multi and many-core computing are provided in laptops, high performance workstations, clusters, grids, and clouds. The design and implementation of parallel optimization methods raise several issues related to the characteristics of these methods and those of the new hardware execution environments at the same time. This workshop seeks to provide an opportunity for the researchers to present their original contributions on the joint use of advanced (discrete or continuous, single or multi-objective, static or dynamic, deterministic or stochastic, hybrid) optimization methods and distributed and/or parallel multi/many-core computing, and any related issues. The POMM Workshop topics of interest include (but are not limited to) the following: - Parallel models for optimization methods. - Parallel mechanisms for hybridization of optimization methods. - Redesign of parallel real or simulation-based optimization algorithms. - Implementation issues of parallel optimization algorithms. - Parallel-aware frameworks for parallel optimization techniques. - Computational studies reporting results for hard and challenging optimization problems. - Issues and novel approaches and experiments in parallel solving real-world applications. - Theory and performance metrics for parallel optimization. SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS: ANCS 2014 will use single-blind reviewing, so papers should include authors' names. Submit papers using a 10pt font on 12pt leading formatted for printing on Letter-sized (8.5" by 11") paper. Paper text blocks must follow ACM guidelines: double-column, with each column 9.25" by 3.33", 0.33" space between columns. Each column must contain no more than 55 lines of text. Latex and Word templates, and additional submission requirements, are available via (http://www.ancsconf.org) ANCS submissions must be no longer than 12 pages. The PC may choose to reject any paper that violates these format requirements, and no deadline extensions will be allowed for re-formatting. We encourage submissions containing original ideas that are relevant to the scope of ANCS. Like other conferences, ANCS requires that papers not be submitted simultaneously to any other conferences or publications; that submissions not be previously published in peer-reviewed conferences; and that accepted papers not be subsequently published elsewhere. Papers describing work that was previously published in a peer-reviewed workshop are allowed, if the authors clearly describe what significant new content has been included. All submissions will be treated as confidential prior to publication in the proceedings; rejected submissions will be permanently treated as confidential. SUBMISSION PROCEDURES: The deadline for abstract submission is May 14, 2014 at 11:59PM PDT. The deadline for full paper submission is May 21, 2014 at 11:59PM PDT. There will be no extensions. Notification of Acceptance: July 14, 2014 The Program Committee may choose to accept certain papers conditionally, based on a shepherding process.
