It enables on-demand service deployment, while mitigating the risks of physical installation, lowering operational and capital expenditures (OPEX/CAPEX), aggregating the service providers and customers' requirements on the same platform. On the other hand, Content Delivery Networks (CDN) play a key role in the management of 5GaaS subscribers and their contents, where the applications define unique 5G requirements raised by novel trafic types, such as: enhanced Mobile Broadband (eMBB), Ultra-Reliable Low Latency (URLLC), and massive Machine Transmission Communication (mMTC). Various bandwidth and latency requirements of these service types force CDN to benefit from the technologies such as Edge/Fog computation in order to sustain ever- complicating network management, revolutionizing the heterogeneous orchestration of the entire infrastructure spanning from server deployment, to network access. Under this expanding heterogeneity, the most feasible way to meet 5G requirements is to design an intelligent network management on 5G physical infrastructure. According to service providers, dynamic configuration and intelligent self-management for CDN can be only handled by Software Defined Networks (SDN). They believe that SDN proposes inexpensive network feature insertion thanks to a global view on the network and programming the network devices dynamically without any intervention on the physical plane. It enables flexible, scalable, and self-manageable virtual network slices to the customers according to Service Level Agreements (SLA). Both global management and network programmability features of SDN enable us to design and integrate novel techniques on 5G networks such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). In the recent years, AI is one of the most rapidly growing fields, finding new application domains with new and unique challenges everyday. This drastically changes the way the researchers/engineers used to approach to optimization processes. AI is broadly categorized into three main subsets such as Machine Learning (ML), Meta-Heuristics, and Fuzzy Inference Systems. Utilizing these tools, the following candidate applications for 5GaaS may only describe the tip of the iceberg. A technique executing ML uses the statistics collected from 5G physical plane periodically and performs supervised and/or unsupervised learning such as Artificial Neural Networks (ANN), Support Vector Machines (SVM), Decision Trees (DT), K-means clustering, Hidden Markov Model (HMM), etc. A technique executing Meta-Heuristics algorithms solves hard optimization problems that cannot be executed within a reasonable time such as Ant Colony Optimization (ACO), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Simulated Annealing (SA), etc. A technique depending on Fuzzy logic has an advantage in representing customer experience and their explanation abilities. To this end, AI-5GaaS aims to improve the experience of customers and their service providers in 5G networks by serving AI-based techniques as a service to handle reduced OPEX/CAPEX. Therefore, this special issue aims to bring together talented researchers in the field and state-of-art designs and techniques to shape the future of 5G. *Potential topics include, but are not limited to:* 1. # First International Workshop on Challenges and Opportunities of HPC Storage Systems (CHAOSS) *UPDATE* Euro-Par 2020 has been converted to an all-virtual event. Our workshop will follow this format and thus take place virtually. Please note that the submission deadline has been updated accordingly. The workshop is aimed at researchers, developers of scientific applications, engineers and everyone interested in the evolution of HPC storage systems. As the developments of computing power, storage and network technologies continue to diverge, the performance gap between them widens. This trend, combined with the growing data volumes, results in I/O and storage bottlenecks that become increasingly serious especially for large-scale HPC storage systems. The hierarchy of different storage technologies to ease this situation leads to a complex environment which will become even more challenging for future exascale systems. This workshop is a venue for papers exploring topics related to data organization and management along with the impacts of multi-tier memory and storage for optimizing application throughput. It will take place at the Euro-Par 2020 conference in Warsaw, Poland on either August 24 or 25, 2020. The 34th conference (ICS-2020) was planned to be held in Barcelona, Spain and co-organized by the Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya (UPC-BarcelonaTECH) and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS). Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the event will be held worldwide in a virtual format. Registration Registration is free for non-authors participants and it is open to the entire community. Please register by June 20th. Due to limited availability, we recommend you to register in advance to guarantee your participation. Highlights - Two workshops and two tutorials will open the conference on Monday, June 29th. - Full program available on the ICS-2020 website: https://ics2020.bsc.es/program. - Three opening keynote sessions also run as a live event through Zoom: Katherine A. Katherine A. Yelick. June 30th, 2020 (15:15 - 16:15 CEST) Abstract: COVID-19 has disrupted every aspect of our lives and never before has there been such a need to build interdisciplinary teams to address some of the most critical data and computing problems associated with the pandemic, using advanced statistical techniques to interpret data, simulation to understand intervention impacts, and machine learning to identify possible medical therapeutics. High-performance computing has long embraced interdisciplinary work, and in this talk, I will give a broad overview of the role that data and computing are playing in COVID-19 rapid response, and some of the underlying challenges for computational modelling, analysis, and learning. Bio: Kathy Yelick is the Robert S. Pepper Distinguished Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences and the Associate Dean for Research in the Division of Computing, Data Science and Society (CDSS) at the UC Berkeley. She is also a Senior Advisor on Computing at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where she was Director of NERSC from 2008 to 2012 and led the Computing Sciences Area from 2010 through 2019. Yelick is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and a Fellow of ACM and AAAS. Architecture keynote: Post-Moore Server Architecture. Babak Falsafi July 1st, 2020 (15:00 - 16:00 CEST) Abstract: Cloud providers are building infrastructure at unprecedented speeds building the foundation for global IT services and cost-effective containerized apps. Unfortunately the silicon technologies we have relied on for the past several decades leading to the exponential growth in IT have slowed down in scaling and will soon come to a halt, resulting in diminishing returns in digital platform scalability in the post-Moore era of computing. Meanwhile, the basic architecture of a modern server blade still dates back to the CPU-centric desktop PC of the 80's managing memory at hardware speeds but accessing the network, storage and now discrete accelerators through the OS, legacy software stacks and peripheral interfaces. This talk will make the case for a clean slate co-design of server software and hardware for the post-Moore era. Bio: Babak Falsafi is a Professor in the School of Computer and Communication Sciences and the founding director of the EcoCloud research center at EPFL. He has worked on server architecture since the 90's with contributions impacting industrial products including a novel shared-memory architecture in the first NUMA machines (WildFire/WildCat) by Sun Microsystems, snoop filtering and memory streaming in IBM BlueGene and ARM cores, and server evaluation methodologies in use by AMD, HPE and Google PerfKit. His recent work on scale-out server processor design laid the foundation for the first generation of Cavium ThunderX. He is a fellow of ACM and IEEE. Compilers and languages keynote: Optimizing Supercompilers for Supercomputers. Michael Wolfe July 2nd, 2020 (15:00 - 16:00 CEST) Abstract: Between a problem statement and its solution as a computer simulation are several steps, from choosing a method, writing a program, compiling to machine code, making runtime decisions, and hardware execution. Here we will look at the middle three decision points. What decisions should be and must be left to the programmer? What decisions should be and must be relegated to a compiler? What decisions should be and must be left until runtime? Given my background, I will focus a great deal on the importance of compilers in supercomputing, and compare and contrast the advantages and impacts of compiler solutions to the "Performance + Portability + Productivity" problem with language and runtime solutions. Bio: Michael Wolfe has worked on languages and compilers for parallel computing since graduate school at the University of Illinois in the 1970s. Along the way, he co-founded a compiler company, tried his hand as an academic professor, and eventually returned to commercial compiler development. He now spends most of his time as the technical lead on a team that develops and improves compilers for highly parallel computing, specifically for NVIDIA GPU accelerators.

Cloud computing can provide flexible and scalable resources to meet any computing needs. Big Data has revolutionized the approach to data computation. With the increase of the volume of data produced by IoT devices, there is a growing demand of applications capable of elaborating such data flows close to their sources, not just on the Cloud, or anywhere else along the IoT-to- Cloud path (Edge/Fog). Where computation should occur depends on the specific needs of each application. Strict real-time constraints require computation to run as close to the data origin as possible (e.g., IoT Gateway). Conversely, batch-wise tasks (e.g., Big Data analytics) are advised to run on the Cloud where computing resources are abundant. Edge/Fog may be a good compromise in case of a concomitant demand of both computing power and timeliness of elaboration. Application designers would greatly benefit from a support for a flexible and dynamic provisioning of computing resources along the Cloud-to-Things path, that is, a provisioning system capable of orchestrating (activating, deactivating, integrating, etc.) computing resources provided by heterogeneous computing infrastructures. Furthermore, that system shall also take into account and cope with the heterogeneity of providers owning the computing infrastructures in terms of service APIs, guaranteed service levels, data management policies, etc. Moreover, typical data-intensive workloads that consist of data-analytics tasks such as Machine Learning (ML)/AI and descriptive analysis are perfect candidates for the Cloud-to-things continuum, since data is being generated typically on the edge (by IoT devices, etc) with the use for instance of a serverless pipeline, whereas the analysis (either for model training, or execution of descriptive tasks) traditionally happens on centralized locations on the cloud with the use of distributed processing frameworks. This SI encourages submissions that address resource orchestration issues in the Cloud-to-Things landscape and propose experimental solutions, case studies, deployed systems and best practices in that field.
