However, with the advent of heterogeneous computing architectures, there exists a significant gap in coupling PGAS-style languages to non-traditional computing devices such as GPU’s and reconfigurable processors. This workshop shall serve as a forum to present research developments and language-extensions for tightly coupled PGAS/shared memory languages and heterogeneous architectures. SC14 Visualization and Data Analytics Showcase New Orleans, Louisiana, USA November 16th-21st 2014 Submission date: August 15, 2014 [NEW] ---------- Call for Submissions (movies and short papers): We seek submissions for the SC14 Visualization and Data Analytics Showcase, which provides a forum for the year's most instrumental movies in HPC. This year has a new format: six finalists will compete for the Best Visualization Award, and each finalist will present his or her movie during a dedicated session at SC14 in a 15-minute presentation. Their movies will be judged based on how their movie illuminates science, by the quality of the movie, and for innovations in the process used for creating the movie. *The accepted submissions will appear as short papers on the SC14 Webpage and archive.* *Review and selection process:* Submissions should include a movie (up to 250MB in size) and a short paper (up to 4 pages including references). The short paper should describe the scientific story conveyed by the movie, how the visualization helps scientific discovery, and the "state-of-the-practice" information behind making the movie. Each submission will be peer reviewed by the Visualization and Data Analytics Showcase Committee. Using directives improve productivity, and program portability with minimal changes to the applications while achieving good power-efficiency and performance. HPC researchers and programmers (including Energy, Climate, Oil & Gas, Computational Chemistry, and Machine Learning) wishing to tap into the performance benefits of commodity accelerators are starting to use directives to program accelerators including OpenACC, OpenMP and other similar programming interfaces vigorously to tap into commodity accelerators and speed up applications. The goal of this workshop is to bring together users, vendors, and tools providers to share their knowledge and experiences to program heterogeneous systems using directive-based programming interfaces such as OpenACC, OpenMP, etc to achieve good performance. This year's workshop will also emphasize in the future direction of accelerator programming using directives and how we can address better the user and tools-ecosystem needs. [Please apologize for any cross-postings] ================================ Seventh International Workshop on Network on Chip Architectures To be held in conjunction with the 47h Annual IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Microarchitecture (MICRO-47) December 13 (or 14), 2014 Cambridge, UK http://nocarc.unikore.it/ ================================ General Information Modern Systems-on-Chip (SoCs) today contains hundreds of Intellectual Properties (IPs)/cores, including, programmable processors, co-processors, accelerators, application-specific IPs, peripherals, memories, reconfigurable logic, and even analog blocks. We are now entered in the so called many-core era. The International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors foresees that the number of Processing Elements (PEs) that will be integrated into a SoC will be in the order of thousand within the 2020. As the number of communicating elements increases, there is a need for an efficient, scalable and reliable communication infrastructure. In addition, with shrinking technology geometrics to deep submicron scale, the communication delay and power consumption of global interconnections become the major bottleneck. The Network-on-Chip (NoC) design paradigm, based on a modular packet-switched mechanism, can address many of the on-chip communication issues such as performance limitations of long interconnects, and integration of large number of PEs on a chip. The goal of the workshop is to provide a forum for researchers to present and discuss innovative ideas and solutions related to design and implementation of many-core systems-on-chip with a special focus on on-chip communication infrastructures and issues related to design, analysis and testing of on-chip networks. We also look for new type of NoC-based computing paradigms inspired by biological systems to solve hard computational problems such as learning, recognition, and complex decision making. Areas of Interest The workshop will focus on issues related to design, analysis and testing of on-chip networks. This era has prompted for planet-scale data collection, storage, processing and dissemination technologies, advancing our knowledge about human behavior and interactions. Evolution of such technologies and methodologies, in addition to the high investments in Internet of things (IoT) in Asia, has inherently led to a number of security, privacy and ethical issues as well as new systems, networking, and application challenges. Such datasets are often from various sources (Variety) yet unstructured such as social media, sensors, scientific applications, surveillance, video and image archives, Internet texts and documents, Internet search indexing, medical records, business transactions and web logs; and are of large size (Volume) with fast data in/out (Velocity). More importantly, big data has to be of high value (Value) and establish trust in it for business decision making (Veracity). Cloud computing is positioning itself as an emerging platform for delivering information infrastructures and resources as IT services. Customers (enterprises or individuals) can provision and deploy Cloud services via pay-as-you-go pricing models saving huge capital investments in their own IT infrastructures. As estimated by IDC, by 2020, about 40% data globally would be touched with Cloud Computing. Cloud Computing provides strong storage, computation and distributed capability in support of Big Data processing. BDCloud (Big Data and Cloud Computing) was created to provide a prime international forum for researchers, industry practitioners and domain experts to exchange the latest advances in Big Data and Cloud Computing as well as their synergy. Data centers are used from web searches to protein analysis. Energy consumption of these systems is part of the fastest growing of the energy consumption systems. As an example, worldwide cloud computing systems’ consumption fits between the electricity consumption of Germany and Russia and would rank 6th as a country. With the rise of smart cities, and the connexion of all objects from fridges to heaters, IT systems energy consumption will rise even faster. With the rise of high level services, from Internet of Things, to HPC systems passing through Cloud systems, more and more possibilities are offered and the quality of the decision systems have a large impact on their energy consumption. Consuming such quantities of energy produces a lot of heat. Thermal-aware management aims to improve power consumption efficiency by coordinating resource management and thermal based decisions. This workshop is focused on scheduling policies to address energy efficiency for large scale Data Centers and Internet of Things. Topics: The main topics to be covered by this workshop include (but are not limited to): Energy-aware scheduling for Data Centers, Grid, Cloud and IoT Thermal-aware scheduling of Data Centers, Grid, Cloud and IoT Resources provisioning and scheduling Resources management and Quality of service Energy-aware metrics for Data Centers, Grid, Cloud and IoT Data Center optimization Cloud optimization Energy-aware simulations Thermal-aware simulations Energy- and Thermal models of Data Centers, Grid, Cloud and IoT Resources prediction Applications characterization Tools and simulators for resource management Energy- and Thermal-aware runtimes for Data Centers, Cloud and IoT Return of experiment on improving energy efficiency of Data Centers or Clouds. The papers should not exceed six single-spaced pages (IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Manuscripts style: two columns, 11-point fonts, IEEE 8.5 x 11 inch) including everything, e.g., abstract, research description, figures, tables, and references. All submitted manuscripts will be reviewed and evaluated on correctness, originality, technical strength, significance, quality of presentation, and interest and relevance to the scope of the workshop. Papers presented at the workshop will be published in the official conference proceedings (through IEEE Digital Library) contingent on two conditions: (1) at least one author of an accepted paper must register for the conference at the time of the submission of the final manuscript and (2) one of the authors must appear to present the paper at the workshop.
