----------------------------------------------------------------------- CALL FOR POSTERS IEEE Symposium on Large-Scale Data Analysis and Visualization VisWeek 2011 in Providence, RI October 23-24, 2011 Website: http://www.ldav.org/ ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The IEEE Symposium on Large-Scale Data Analysis and Visualization (LDAV), held in conjunction with VisWeek 2011, aims at bringing together domain scientists, data analytics and visualization researchers, and users, and fostering the needed exchange to develop the next-generation data-intensive analysis and visualization technology. We invite you to submit unpublished work to the LDAV poster program. The poster program is a venue designed to highlight ongoing research and late breaking topics that have produced promising preliminary results. In addition to the topics listed under call for papers, we also welcome submissions that showcase successful stories of applying visualization to large-scale data intensive applications . The poster program will be a great opportunity for the authors to interact with the symposium attendees and solicit feedback. Interested authors should submit a two-page abstract that describes the underlying problem, the proposed method, and preliminary results. Accepted poster abstracts will be published as part of the proceedings. The format of the abstract will be the same as the format used for the regular paper submission. The dimensions of the posters may not exceed 4 ’ x 4 ’ (1219mm x 1219mm / 48 ” x 48 ” ). Popular poster sizes are A0 (841mm x 1189mm / 33.1 ” x 46.8 ”) or 3 ’ x 4 ’ (914mm x 1219mm / 36 ” x 48 ”). Poster authors are encouraged, but not required, to include a draft or sketch of the poster layout and content in their submission to help reviewers and show that the poster format is being used effectively. This should be in PDF format. The authors should indicate if the poster will be accompanied by an on-site demonstration and/or videos. This workshop will provide a forum for engineers and scientists to present and discuss their most recent work related to the storage, management, and analysis of data for scientific workloads. ------------------------------------------------------------ CFP: IEEE CLUSTER 2011 WORKSHOP Parallel Programming on Accelerator Clusters (PPAC11) September 26, Austin, Texas ------------------------------------------------------------ Call for Papers Accelerator-based parallel architectures, heterogeneous multicore processors, FPGAs and GPUs, are rapidly becoming mainstream components for cluster computing. While the potential of accelerators for addressing problems such as memory latency and bandwidth has long been recognized, accelerators present several challenges to programmers and cluster systems designers. Conventional parallel programming models and libraries, parallel algorithms, and system software need to be restructured and redesigned to exploit the architectural strengths of accelerators and mitigate their lack of efficient general-purpose computing capabilities. This workshop will bring together researchers from academia and industry to discuss the latest developments in parallel programming models, languages, tools, system software and applications for accelerator-based clusters. This facilitates the development of programming models that can deliver both productivity and performance. The PGAS conference is a forum to present and discuss ideas and research developments in the area of PGAS models, languages, compilers, runtimes, applications and tools. Papers, posters and demos are solicited in related areas, including but not limited to: - Applications: New innovative applications that are uniquely enabled by the PGAS model, existing applications that can take advantage of the PGAS model, effective application development practices for PGAS codes, and comparative performance of applications over various programming models. - Models and Language Development: Extensions to the PGAS basic model. New PGAS languages. New models and language extensions to address new architectures, such as multicore, heterogeneous, and reconfigurable processors. - Tools: Integrated Development Environments, performance analysis tools, and debuggers. - Compilers and Implementations: Compiler optimizations for PGAS languages, low level libraries, memory consistency models, hardware support for PGAS languages, performance studies and insights, productivity studies, and language interoperability. The Partitioned Global Address Space (PGAS) Programming Models Conference is the premier forum dedicated to the presentation and discussion of research work in this field. Papers should report on original research, and should include enough background material to make them accessible to the entire PGAS research community. Papers describing experiences should indicate how they illustrate general principles; papers about parallel programming foundations should indicate how they relate to practice. We apologize if you receive multiple copies of this notice. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4th Workshop on Resiliency in High Performance Computing (Resilience) in Clusters, Clouds, and Grids in conjunction with the 17th International European Conference on Parallel and Distributed Computing (Euro-Par 2011) Bordeaux France, August 29 - September 2nd, 2011 Clusters, Clouds, and Grids are three different computational paradigms with the intent or potential to support High Performance Computing (HPC). Currently, they consist of hardware, management, and usage models particular to different computational regimes, e.g., high performance cluster systems designed to support tightly coupled scientific simulation codes typically utilize high-speed interconnects and commercial cloud systems designed to support software as a service (SAS) do not. However, in order to support HPC, all must at least utilize large numbers of resources and hence effective HPC in any of these paradigms must address the issue of resiliency at large-scale. Recent trends in HPC systems have clearly indicated that future increases in performance, in excess of those resulting from improvements in single- processor performance, will be achieved through corresponding increases in system scale, i.e., using a significantly larger component count. As the raw computational performance of these HPC systems increases from today's tera- and peta-scale to next-generation multi peta-scale capability and beyond, their number of computational, networking, and storage components will grow from the ten-to-one-hundred thousand compute nodes of today's systems to several hundreds of thousands of compute nodes and more in the foreseeable future. This substantial growth in system scale, and the resulting component count, poses a challenge for HPC system and application software with respect to fault tolerance and resilience. Furthermore, recent experiences on extreme-scale HPC systems with non-recoverable soft errors, i.e., bit flips in memory, cache, registers, and logic added another major source of concern. The probability of such errors not only grows with system size, but also with increasing architectural vulnerability caused by employing accelerators, such as FPGAs and GPUs, and by shrinking nanometer technology. Reactive fault tolerance technologies, such as checkpoint/restart, are unable to handle high failure rates due to associated overheads, while proactive resiliency technologies, such as migration, simply fail as random soft errors can't be predicted. Moreover, soft errors may even remain undetected resulting in silent data corruption.
