Today, Multi-core systmes are now a much richer environment and has been applied to research domains including: image processing, molecular dynamics, astrophysics, financial simulation, computer tomography, quantum chemistry, bioinformatics and many others. In many of these applications, a speedup of 20-100X has been realized. The goal of this workshop is to provide a forum for researchers and practitioners to discuss and share their research and development experiences and outputs on the massively parallel GPU platforms, multi-core system, optimization techniques, parallel algorithm design, applications, bioinformatics and all kinds of successful applications. Increasing levels of parallelism in multi- and many-core chips and emerging heterogeneity of computational resources coupled with energy and memory constraints force a reevaluation of our approaches towards operating systems and runtime environments. The ROSS workshop, to be held as a full-day meeting at the ICS 2012 conference in Venice, Italy, focuses on principles and techniques to design, implement, optimize, or operate runtime and operating systems for supercomputers and massively parallel machines. ====================================================================== CALL FOR PAPERS 1st International Workshop on Unconventional Cluster Architectures and Applications (UCAA2012) September 10th 2012 - Pittsburgh, PA, USA In conjunction with the ICPP 2012 ====================================================================== ABOUT THE WORKSHOP This workshop gears to gather recent work on unconventional cluster architectures and applications, which might have a big impact on future cluster architectures. This includes any cluster architecture that is not based on the usual commodity components and therefore makes use of some special hard- or software elements, or that is used for very special and unconventional applications. Examples include GPUs, MICs (Many Integrated Core) and FPGAs on the hardware side, and virtualization, in-memory storage and device-to-device communication on the software side. We are in particular encouraging work on disruptive approaches, which may show inferior performance today but can already point out their full performance potential. The broad scope of the workshop facilitates submissions on unconventional uses of hardware or software, gearing to gather ideas that are coming to life now and not limiting them except for their context: clusters. We are seeking new proposals presented from a holistic perspective. In this regard, one of the aims of the workshop is anticipating the evolution of clusters. Instead of just presenting new work carried out in the traditional cluster areas usually addressed in other conferences and workshops, we are thinking on creating the right atmosphere for a discussion of opportunities in cluster computing. In this regard, contributions would not only be accepted according to their technical merits but also according to their contribution to this discussion. TOPICS OF INTEREST Topics of interest include any unconventional cluster architecture or application. Examples include, but are not limited to: - High-performance, data-intensive, and power-aware computing - Application-specific clusters, datacenters, and high performance cloud architectures - New industry and technology trends and their potential impact on one of the above - Dedicated support for novel parallel programming paradigms like PGAS - Software cluster-level virtualization for consolidation purposes - Hardware techniques for disaggregation of resources - Management techniques for large-scale systems - New uses of GPUs, FPGAs, and other specialized hardware IMPORTANT DATES Paper submission: 1st May 2012 Notification of acceptance: 7th June 2012 Camera-ready paper: 27th June 2012 PAPER SUBMISSION GUIDELINES Submissions may not exceed 8 pages (single spaced, 11pt font, 8ï¿½ï¿½11-inch pages) in PDF format including figures and references. Large parallel systems have been in production for over 15 years. Initially, they were primarily used in scientific computing. But with the advance of Cloud computing and new processor paradigms such as multi-core systems and reconfigurable architectures, scheduling in parallel systems has grown in relevance and scope, significantly extending its original focus. JSSPP has evolved with the area and now fully covers parallel scheduling for commercial environments while still maintaining strong interest in its traditional areas: scientific computing, supercomputing and cluster platforms. From its very beginning, JSSPP has strived to balance practice and theory in its program. This combination provides a rich environment for technical debate about scheduling approaches including both academic researchers as well as participants from industry. JSSPP is a high-visibility workshop, which has been ranking repeatedly in the top 10% of Citeseer's venue impact list. JSSPP solicits papers that belong to any of the following topics, although papers on other themes that are relevant in the context of JSSPP are welcome as well: Performance evaluation of scheduling approaches, including methodology, benchmarks, and metrics. Design of, and experience with, scheduling approaches for production systems. Workloads on parallel processing systems, including characterization, classification, and modeling. Consideration of additional constraints in scheduling systems, like job priorities, accounting, load estimation, and quality of service guarantees. Scaling and composition of very large scheduling systems. Interaction between schedulers on different levels, like processor level as well as whole single- or even multi-owner systems. EuroMPI 2012 CALL FOR PAPERS Recent Advances in Message Passing Interface. 19th European MPI Users' Group Meeting Austrian Academy of Sciences, Vienna, Austria, September 23-26, 2012 www.eurompi2012.org BACKGROUND AND TOPICS EuroMPI is the preeminent meeting for users, developers and researchers to interact and discuss new developments and applications of message-passing parallel computing, in particular in and related to the Message Passing Interface (MPI). The annual meeting has a long, rich tradition, and the 19th European MPI Users' Group Meeting will again be a lively forum for discussion of everything related to usage and implementation of MPI and other parallel programming interfaces. Traditionally, the meeting has focused on the efficient implementation of aspects of MPI, typically on high-performance computing platforms, benchmarking and tools for MPI, short-comings and extensions of MPI, parallel I/O and fault tolerance, as well as parallel applications using MPI. The meeting is open towards other topics, in particular application experience and alternative interfaces for high-performance heterogeneous, hybrid, distributed memory systems. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: * MPI implementation issues and improvements * Extensions to and shortcomings of MPI * Tools and environments for MPI * Hybrid and heterogeneous programming with MPI and other interfaces * Relation of MPI to alternative interfaces for hybrid/heterogeneous distributed memory systems * Interaction between message-passing software and hardware, in particular new high performance architectures * Fault tolerance in message-passing implementations and systems * Performance evaluation for MPI and MPI based applications * Automatic performance tuning of MPI applications and implementations * Applications using message-passing, in particular in Computational Science and Scientific Computing * Non-standard message-passing applications * Parallel algorithms in the message-passing paradigm * Algorithms using the message-passing paradigm The meeting will feature contributed talks on the selected, peer-reviewed papers, invited expert talks covering upcoming and future issues, a vendor session where selected vendors will present their new developments in hybrid and heterogeneous cluster and high-performance architectures, a poster session, and a tutorial day. As in 2011, EuroMPI 2012 will include the special session IMUDI dedicated to improving MPI user and developer interaction. The special session will have the same deadlines as the conference, but its own CFP and feature its own specialist program committee that will review all dedicated IMUDI submissions. This session should attract strongly application focused papers showing potential or problems with MPI and current MPI practice. IMUDI papers may be shorter and may center on problem analysis rather than solution, and will thus contribute to intensify discussion between MPI developers and application programmers. Other, special sessions may be organized, and proposals are solicited. Proceedings for EuroMPI 2012 will be published in Springer Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS). A Special Issue of the Springer "Computing" journal is planned for a selection of the best papers of the conference. SUBMISSION INFORMATION Contributors are invited to submit a full paper as a PDF document not exceeding 10 pages in English. The title page should contain an abstract of at most 100 words and five specific, topical keywords. The paper must be formatted according to the Springer LNCS guidelines. The usage of LaTeX for preparation of the contribution as well as the submission in camera ready format is strongly recommended. In an effort to enhance the review process and to create an exceptional program, SC12 will introduce a review rebuttal option for the authors. The review process acceptance criteria will concentrate on originality, technical soundness, presentation quality, timeliness, impact, and relevance to SC. Some papers may present principles, results, and discussions in the context of a single node, core, thread, or GPU. To be accepted, these papers must measurably improve upon the state of the art along dimensions that are relevant for SC. Awards will be presented for Best Paper and Best Student Paper. Extended versions of papers selected as finalists for the Best Paper and Best Student Paper Awards may be published in the journal Scientific Programming.
