Call for Participation ICCS ECA-2016 Workshop (San Diego June 6 2016) - Environmental computing applications - state of the art Jun 6, 2016, San Diego, California, U.S.A. Plumeria Suite, Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa http://envcomp.eu/ICCS16/ This ICCS 2016 workshop focuses on advances in environmental computing (using advanced environmental modelling techniques to analyse data sources with a goal of producing actionable knowledge). The workshop talks range from case studies and presentations of new approaches to environmental computing systems to attempts to capture and structure the field, its actors, and the broader impact of the developments. The underlying themes related to opportunities and challenges related to multi-model and multi-data frameworks (including metadata approaches), scalability of the systems, and data and model semantics and visualisation. The workshop builds on the foundations of the Environmental Computing Focus day that was arranged during the IEEE eScience 2015 conference (the presentations are linked on the Tuesday sessions of the conference agenda) as well as other environmental computing events. 28th International Symposium on Computer Architecture and High Performance Computing (SBAC-PAD) October 26-28, 2016 Los Angeles, USA http://www2.sbc.org.br/sbac/2016/ SBAC-PAD is an annual international conference series, the first of which was held in 1987. Each conference has traditionally presented new developments in high performance applications, as well as the latest trends in computer architecture and parallel and distributed technologies. The conference has strong international participation, with submissions typically coming from over a dozen countries. The selection process is competitive, with acceptance rate below 30% in recent years. This year, the symposium will be held in Los Angeles, California, and will feature three high-profile keynote talks by David Padua (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign), Katherine Yelick (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and University of California, Berkeley), and Tom Conte (Georgia Tech). Authors are invited to submit original manuscripts on a wide range of high-performance computing areas, including computer architecture, systems software, languages and compilers, algorithms, and applications. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to): * Application-specific systems * Benchmarking, performance measurements, and analysis * Cloud, Grid, cluster, and peer-to-peer systems * Embedded and pervasive systems * GPUs, FPGAs and other accelerator architectures * Languages, compilers, and tools for parallel and distributed programming * Modeling and simulation methodology * Operating systems and virtualization * Parallel and distributed systems, algorithms, and applications * Power and energy-efficient systems * Processor, cache, memory, storage, and network architecture * Real-world applications and case studies * Reconfigurable, resilient and fault-tolerant systems Submissions must be in English, 8 pages maximum, following the IEEE conference formatting guidelines. However, exploiting the full capabilities of these machines is becoming exponentially more difficult with each new generation of hardware. To help understand and optimize the behavior of massively parallel simulations the performance analysis community has created a wide range of tools and APIs to collect performance data, such as flop counts, network traffic or cache behavior at the largest scale. However, this success has created a new challenge, as the resulting data is far too large and too complex to be analyzed in a straightforward manner. Therefore, new automatic analysis approaches must be developed to allow application developers to intuitively understand the multiple, interdependent effects that their algorithmic choices have on the final performance. This workshop will bring together researchers and practitioners from the areas of performance analysis, application optimization, visualization, and data analysis and provide a forum to discuss novel ideas on how to improve performance understanding, analysis and optimization through novel techniques in scientific and information visualization. Current HPC systems consist of complex configurations with a huge number of components, very likely heterogeneous, and typically with not enough memory. The hard- and software configuration can change dynamically due to fault recovery or power saving procedures. Deep software hierarchies of large, complex software components are needed to make efficient use of such systems. On the applications side, HPC systems are increasingly used for data analytics and complex workflows. Successful application development requires collaboration between the domain scientists on one side, and computer science / HPC experts on the other. JARA-HPC is the High Performance Computing section of JARA, the Jülich Aachen Research Alliance. JARA represents a cooperation between RWTH Aachen University and Forschungszentrum Jülich and is a model that is unique in Germany, overcoming the mere juxtaposition of university and non-university research and teaching. Scientists of JARA-HPC combine the knowledge of massively parallel computing on supercomputers with the respective expert competences from different research fields. JARA-HPC organizes this symposium to motivate lively discussions on the various aspects of the development of HPC applications among experts. Participants will have the opportunity for an in-depth exchange with colleagues from different research fields who also make use of HPC systems in their scientific work. ============================================================================ CALL FOR PAPERS AND DEMOS/TUTORIALS/TALKS 3rd International Workshop on Reproducibility in Parallel Computing (REPPAR) http://reppar.org August 22, 2016 in conjunction with Euro-Par 2016 (August 22-26), Grenoble, France ============================================================================ 1 Scope ======= The workshop is focused on the design, implementation, execution, and analysis of experiments in parallel and distributed computing (including HPC, Clouds, Networking, Big Data) to improve the reproducibility of results. 2 Topics addressed in the workshop include: =========================================== - Experimental design of parallel computing experiments - Experiences and best practices for conducting experiments (including papers that address the reproduction of other articles) - Supporting reproducibility in experimental testbeds for parallel computing - Tools for reproducible research (e.g., control of experiments, versioning, archiving) - Analysis of experimental data (e.g., visualization, statistical analysis, provenance) - Automated uncertainty quantification for experimental workflows (or data-focused workflows) - Systems to incorporate (potentially very large) data into automated testing frameworks - Sustainable models for public data sharing 3 Paper Types ============= - full workshop paper: a regular article with up to 12 pages Please note that only full workshop papers (10-12 pages), which have been positively reviewed by at least three referees before being presented at the workshop, may be included in the workshop proceedings. 4 Demos and Tutorials ===================== We welcome demos and tutorials addressing (potential) solutions to the reproducibiblity/replicability problem. Please contact us directly if you want to give a tutorial (demo). 5 Contributed Talks =================== The workshop will provide several slots (20 min talk + 5 min questions) for contributed talks. We therefore invite scientists to submit abstracts (max. 1 page) of contributed talks that are related to the workshop topics. The abstracts accepted for contributed talks will not be included in the workshop proceedings. Please submit the abstract through EasyChair. 6 Important Dates ================= - Workshop papers due (extended): 25 May 2016 - Workshop author notification: 17 June 2016 - Workshop paper (for informal workshop proceedings) due: 29 July 2016 - Workshop camera-ready papers due: 3 October 2016 - Demos/Tutorials proposals due: 10 June 2016 - Abstract of contributed talks due: 10 June 2016 7 Proceedings ============= Accepted articles will be published in the Euro-Par workshop proceedings after the conference. 8 Submission ============ Submissions are handled through the EasyChair conference system. Papers should not exceed 12 pages and must comply with the Springer LNCS format.
