Nowadays, the most important stakeholders such as private companies, public agencies and research communities rely on the Cloud not only for sharing hardware infrastructures (such as the IaaS services) but also, and more importantly, for the software as well as for the data services. Nevertheless, most of the players today require also to analyze data available on the Cloud with a holistic approach provided often by big data analytics techniques. Under this respect, services designed for a complex scenarios like the Smart Cities and Industry 4.0 scenarios benefit of such a new era of the Cloud. The complexity of human dynamics in a city can be better analyzed by decentralizing the infrastructure, integrating and opening the data and sharing the services. All of such features are the core level of modern Cloud systems. Despite such a rapid (re)evolution of Cloud systems, it is still unclear whether current solutions are able to withstand the abrupt and unpredictably changes imposed by the emergent application scenarios. Moreover, if only effective Cloud management solutions could pave the way to efficient Green computing systems for the processing of real-world Big Data knowledge base and streams, so far only a few seminal works have studied reciprocal benefits and challenges of Cloud and Green solutions for Big Data in large-scale Internet-wide deployment environments. That is case of the upcoming Industry 4.0 deployments. The MoCS workshop started following the Cloud stream 7 years ago. Our mission is to keep the flow of novelty of Cloud systems and to put on the foreground all the above issues, with a particular attention this year on the convergence of Cloud systems together with Smart City systems to support Big Data for Industry 4.0 scenarios. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following: • Experiences on the use of Cloud systems when applied to services designed for Smart Cities; • Analytical and simulation models and tools to measure systems scalability and to achieve resource saving in socio-technical Smart City systems; • Novel adaptive management solutions for scalable, maintainable, cost-effective Cloud provision, at all software stack layers; • New models and paradigms for the management of Cloud services at the host level, within/between data centres (intra- /inter-domain); • Big Data flows processing for Industry 4.0 scenarios; • Assessment of the relationship between IoT and Cloud systems when applied to Industrial IoT scenarios; • Experiences on the (re)use of open platforms for services designed for Smart Cities integrated with Cloud systems. *Paper submission* Review manuscripts should be written in Englishand should describe original works and must be no more than 6 pages for full papers and 4 pages for short papers in the IEEE double column proceedings format including tables, figures and references.No more than the 20% of short papers will be allowed. Data mining techniques and algorithms to process huge amount of data in order to extract useful and interesting information have become popular in many different contexts. Algorithms are required to make sense of data automatically and in efficient ways. Nonetheless, even though sequential computer systems performance is improving, they are not suitable to keep up with the increase in the demand for data mining applications and the data size. Moreover, the main memory of sequential systems may not be enough to hold all the data related to current applications. Therefore, there is an increasing interest in the design and implementation of parallel data mining algorithms. On parallel computers, by exploiting the vast aggregate main memory and processing power of processors and accelerators, parallel algorithms can easily address both the running time and memory requirement issues. Anyway, parallelizing existing algorithms in order to achieve good performance and scalability with regard to massive datasets is not trivial. Indeed, it is of paramount importance a good data organization and decomposition strategy in order to balance the workload while minimizing data dependences. Another concern is related to minimizing synchronization and communication overhead. Finally, I/O costs should be minimized as well. The Workshop will allow exchanging ideas and results related to on-going research, focusing on high-performance aspects of data mining algorithms and applications. Creating breakthrough parallel algorithms for high-performance data mining applications requires addressing several key computing problems which may lead to novel solutions and new insights in interdisciplinary applications. The focus of the workshop is on all forms of advances in high-performance data mining algorithms and applications, and related topics. Catalyzed by the dramatic increase in the amount of data available through advanced next generation sequencing and advanced imaging techniques, new approaches are in development to address the complexities of understanding and modeling biology. When coupled with long-standing computational chemistry and biology techniques used in drug discovery, an exciting frontier emerges for innovation as the communities join. The use of deep learning to develop data driven models combined with exascale capabilities to explore and validate models, adds an exciting dimension for the future of both HPC and precision medicine. The HPC Applications in Precision Medicine workshop aims to bring together the computational and life sciences communities to share experiences, examine current challenges, and explore future opportunities for applications of high-performance computing in precision medicine. In the workshop, we bring together individuals from across the globe with interests in the use of HPC applications in precision medicine to share insights, experiences and showcase new capabilities in this rapidly evolving field. *Target Audience* The workshop is expected to attract those developers, researchers, and vendors with technologies and solutions holding potential to address problems in precision medicine and seeking potential collaborators to work with. Internet, operating systems and distributed environments currently suffer from poor security support and cannot resist common attacks. Adding security measures typically degrade performance. This workshop addresses relationships between security, high performance and distributed computing systems in four directions. First, it considers how to add security properties (authentication, confidentiality, integrity, non-repudiation, access control) to high performance computing systems and how they can be formally verified both at design-time (formal verification) and at run-time (run-time verification). In this case, safety properties can also be addressed, such as availability and fault tolerance for high performance computing systems. Second, it addresses vulnerabilities and security threats (and remediation) targeting HPC, grid, cloud and mobile environments. Third, it covers how to use HPC systems to sol! ve security problems. For instance, a grid computation can break an encryption code, a cluster can support high performance intrusion detection or a distributed formal verification system. More generally, this topic addresses every efficient use of a high performance computing systems to improve security. Fourth, it investigates the tradeoffs between maintaining high performance and achieving security in computing systems and solutions to balance the two objectives. In all these directions, various formal analyses, as well as performance analyses or monitoring techniques can be conducted to show the efficiency of a security infrastructure. The workshop seeks submissions from academia and industry presenting novel research on all theoretical and practical aspects of security related to HPC, distributed, network and mobile environments, as well as case studies and implementation experiences. The trend is to keep increasing both the number of cores in a single device as well as the number of communicating devices. In this massively parallel and heterogeneous context, the need for scalable computing is everywhere and scalability is rapidly becoming a central aspect of computing. The 18th IEEE International Conference on Scalable Computing and Communications (ScalCom 2018) will provide a forum for researchers willing to present their original work on scalable parallel and distributed computing. ScalCom 2018 will offer a unique opportunity to exchange ideas at the highest technical level related to communication networks, performance analysis and distributed applications with particular emphasis on scalability. Systemization-of-Knowledge papers should consicely, but exhaustively, systematize and conceptualize existing knowledge (similar to SoK papers in S&P conferences, but focusing on hardware and architecture). Titles of Systemization-of-Knowledge papers should have SoK: as their prefix. Finally, researchers wishing to share their ongoing work without publishing a paper should submit application for a Work-in-Progress presentation. This demands new research and software tools that can further reduce data by several orders of magnitude, taking advantage of new architectures and hardware available on next generation systems. This international workshop on data reduction is a response to this renewed research direction and will provide a focused venue for researchers in this area to present their research results, exchange ideas, identify new research directions, and foster new collaborations within the community. Owing to the plethora of heterogeneous communication paths with different cost models expected to be present in extreme scale systems, data movement is seen as the soul of different challenges for exascale computing. On the other hand, advances in networking technologies such as NoCs (like NVLink and Stormlake), RDMA enabled networks and the likes are constantly pushing the envelope of research in the field of novel communication and computing architectures for extreme scale computing. The goal of this workshop is to bring together researchers and software/hardware designers from academia, industry and national laboratories who are involved in creating network-based computing solutions for extreme scale architectures. The objectives of this workshop will be to share the experiences of the members of this community and to learn the opportunities and challenges in the design trends for exascale communication architectures. ExaComm 2018 will be held in conjunction with the International Supercomputing (ISC 2018), Frankfurt, Germany. HPCC has moved into the mainstream of computing and has become a key technology in determining future research and development activities in many academic and industrial branches, especially when the solution of large and complex problems must cope with very tight timing schedules. The 2018 High Performance Computing and Communications (HPCC-2018) will provide a high-profile, leading-edge forum for researchers, engineers, and practitioners to present state-of-art advances and innovations in theoretical foundations, systems, infrastructure, tools, testbeds, and applications for the HPCC, as well as to identify emerging research topics and define the future. Prospective authors are invited to submit their papers to HPCC-2018. All accepted papers are expected to be included in IEEE Xplore and will be indexed by Engineering Index (EI). The authors of selected best papers will be invited post conference to extend their contributions for special issues of prestigious journals to be planned in conjunction with the conference. Each paper is limited to 8 pages (or 10 pages with over length charge) including figures and references using IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Manuscripts style (two columns, single-spaced, 10 fonts).
