Call for Papers PPoPP 2020 <https://ppopp20.sigplan.org/>: 25th ACM SIGPLAN Annual Symposium on Principles and Practice of Parallel Programming San Diego, California, USA. (collocated with HPCA-2020 and CGO-2020) Dates: Sat 22 - Wed 26 February 2020. Conference URL: https://ppopp20.sigplan.org Important dates - Paper registration and abstract submission: July 31, 2019 - Full paper submission: August 6, 2019 - Author response period: October 28–31, 2019 - Author Notification: November 19, 2019 - Artifact submission to AE committee: November 25, 2019 - Artifact notification by AE committee: December 20, 2019 - Final paper due: January 2, 2020 All deadlines are at midnight anywhere on earth (AoE), and are firm. Scope PPoPP is the premier forum for leading work on all aspects of parallel programming, including theoretical foundations, techniques, languages, compilers, runtime systems, tools, and practical experience. In the context of the symposium, “parallel programming” encompasses work on concurrent and parallel systems (multicore, multi-threaded, heterogeneous, clustered, and distributed systems; grids; data centers; clouds; and large scale machines). Given the rise of parallel architectures in the consumer market (desktops, laptops, and mobile devices) and data centers, PPoPP is particularly interested in work that addresses new parallel workloads and issues that arise out of extreme-scale applications or cloud platforms, as well as techniques and tools that improve the productivity of parallel programming or work towards improved synergy with such emerging architectures. Specific topics of interest include (but are not limited to): - Compilers and runtime systems for parallel and heterogeneous systems - Concurrent data structures - Development, analysis, or management tools - Fault tolerance for parallel systems - Formal analysis and verification - High-performance / scientific computing - Libraries - Middleware for parallel systems - Parallel algorithms - Parallel applications and frameworks - Parallel programming for deep memory hierarchies including nonvolatile memory - Parallel programming languages - Parallel programming theory and models - Parallelism in non-scientific workloads: web, search, analytics, cloud, machine learning - Performance analysis, debugging and optimization - Programming tools for parallel and heterogeneous systems - Software engineering for parallel programs - Software for heterogeneous architectures - Software productivity for parallel programming - Synchronization and concurrency control Papers should report on original research relevant to parallel programming and should contain enough background materials to make them accessible to the entire parallel programming research community. Papers describing experience should indicate how they illustrate general principles or lead to new insights; papers about parallel programming foundations should indicate how they relate to practice. PPoPP submissions will be evaluated based on their technical merit and accessibility. Submissions should clearly motivate the importance of the problem being addressed, compare to the existing body of work on the topic, and explicitly and precisely state the paper’s key contributions and results towards addressing the problem. Submissions should strive to be accessible both to a broad audience and to experts in the area. Paper Submission Conference submission site <https://ppopp20.hotcrp.com/> All submissions must be made electronically through the conference web site and include an abstract (100–400 words), author contact information, the full list of authors and their affiliations. Full paper submissions must be in PDF formatted printable on both A4 and US letter size paper. All papers must be prepared in ACM Conference Format using the acmart <http://www.sigplan.org/Resources/Author/> format: use the SIGPLAN proceedings template acmart-sigplanproc-template.tex <http://www.sigplan.org/sites/default/files/acmart/current/acmart-sigplanpro…> for Latex, and interim-layout.docx <https://drive.google.com/file/d/1_lub2V28PtAo-L5_yhzNPh2Ai0lOr3Mq/view?usp=…> for Word. You may also want to consult the official ACM information on the Master Article Template <http://www.acm.org/publications/proceedings-template> and related tools. Important note: The Word template (interim-layout.docx) on the ACM website uses 9pt font; you need to increase it to 10pt. Papers should contain a maximum of 10 pages of text (in a typeface no smaller than 10 points) or figures, NOT INCLUDING references. There is no page limit for references and they must include the name of all authors (not {et al.}). Appendices are not allowed, but the authors may submit supplementary material, such as proofs or source code; all supplementary material must be in PDF or ZIP format. Looking at supplementary material is at the discretion of the reviewers. Submission is double-blind and authors will need to identify any potential conflicts of interest with PC and Extended Review Committee members, as defined here: http://www.sigplan.org/Resources/Policies/Review/ (ACM SIGPLAN policy). PPoPP 2020 will employ a lightweight double-blind reviewing process. To facilitate this process, submissions should not reveal the identity of the authors in any way. Authors should leave out author names and affiliations from the body of their submission. They should also ensure that any references to authors’ own related work should be in the third person (e.g., not “We build on our previous work …” but rather “We build on the work of …”). The purpose of this process is to help the PC and external reviewers come to an initial judgment about the paper without bias, not to make it impossible for them to discover the authors if they were to try. Nothing should be done in the name of anonymity that weakens the submission or makes the job of reviewing the paper more difficult. In particular, important background references should not be omitted or anonymized. In addition, authors should feel free to disseminate their ideas or draft versions of their paper as they normally would. For instance, authors may post drafts of their papers on the web or give talks on their research ideas. Authors with further questions on double-blind reviewing are encouraged to contact the Program Chair by email. Submissions should be in PDF and printable on both US Letter and A4 paper. Papers may be resubmitted to the submission site multiple times up until the deadline, but the last version submitted before the deadline will be the version reviewed. Papers that exceed the length requirement, that deviate from the expected format, or that are submitted late will be rejected. All submissions that are not accepted for regular presentations will be automatically considered for posters. Two-page summaries of accepted posters will be included in the conference proceedings (authors must decide by December 15, 2019 if they want to submit a poster). To allow reproducibility, we encourage authors of accepted papers to submit their papers for Artifact Evaluation (AE). The AE process begins after the acceptance notification and is run by a separate committee whose task is to assess how the artifacts support the work described in the papers. Artifact evaluation is voluntary and will not affect paper acceptance, but will be taken into consideration when selecting papers for awards. Papers that go through the AE process successfully will receive one or several of the ACM reproducibility badges, printed on the papers themselves. More information will be posted on the AE website. Deadlines expire at midnight anywhere on earth. Publication Date The titles of all accepted papers are typically announced shortly after the author notification date (late November 2019). Note, however, that this is not the official publication date. The official publication date is the date the proceedings are made available in the ACM Digital Library. ACM will make the proceedings available via the Digital Library for one month, up to 2 weeks prior to the first day of the conference. The official publication date affects the deadline for any patent filings related to published work. <https://doc-0k-c8-docs.googleusercontent.com/docs/securesc/2sqop2rnhb6lur7p…>

Call for Papers: ScalA@SC19 - Papers due September 2
by Engelmann, Christian 29 Jul '19

29 Jul '19

We apologize if you receive multiple copies of this notice. The deadline for submissions is September 2, 2019. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ScalA19: 10th Workshop on Latest Advances in Scalable Algorithms for Large-Scale Systems held in conjunction with the SC19: The International Conference on High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis in cooperation with the IEEE Computer Society Technical Consortium on High Performance Computing (TCHPC) November 18, 2019, Denver, CO, USA <http://www.csm.ornl.gov/srt/conferences/Scala/2019> Novel scalable scientific algorithms are needed in order to enable key science applications to exploit the computational power of large-scale systems. This is especially true for the current tier of leading petascale machines and the road to exascale computing as HPC systems continue to scale up in compute node and processor core count. These extreme-scale systems require novel scientific algorithms to hide network and memory latency, have very high computation/ communication overlap, have minimal communication, and have no synchronization points. Scientific algorithms for multi-petaflop and exa-flop systems also need to be fault tolerant and fault resilient, since the probability of faults increases with scale. Resilience at the system software and at the algorithmic level is needed as a crosscutting effort. Finally, with the advent of heterogeneous compute nodes that employ standard processors as well as GPGPUs, scientific algorithms need to match these architectures to extract the most performance. This includes different system-specific levels of parallelism as well as co-scheduling of computation. Key science applications require novel mathematical models and system software that address the scalability and resilience challenges of current- and future-generation extreme-scale HPC systems. Submission Guidelines Authors are invited to submit manuscripts in English structured as technical papers at a length of at least 6 letter size (8.5in x 11in) pages and not exceeding 8 pages, including figures, tables, and references using the IEEE format for conference proceedings. Reference style files are available at http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html. Submitted papers must represent original unpublished research that is not currently under review for any other conference or journal. Papers not following these guidelines will be rejected without review and further action may be taken, including (but not limited to) notifications sent to the heads of the institutions of the authors and sponsors of the conference. Submissions received after the due date, exceeding length limit, or not appropriately structured may also not be considered. Papers should be submitted electronically at https://submissions.supercomputing.org. All manuscripts will be peer-reviewed and judged on correctness, originality, technical strength, and significance, quality of presentation, and interest and relevance to the workshop attendees. Accepted papers will be published with the IEEE Computer Society as part of the SC19 workshop proceedings in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. At least one author of an accepted paper must register for and present the paper at the workshop. Authors may contact the workshop program chair, Christian Engelmann at engelmannc(a)ornl.gov, for more information. Reproducibility Initiative As part of a major initiative that aims to increase the level of reproducibility and replicability of results, ScalA19 invites authors of technical papers to submit optional appendix information that can promote better reproducibility of computational results. Authors are highly encouraged to provide a 2-page Artifact Description Appendix, which will not count toward the page limit of the submission. Notes: - A paper cannot be disqualified based on information provided or not provided in this appendix, nor if the appendix is not available. - The availability and quality of an appendix can be used in ranking a paper. In particular, if two papers are of similar quality, the existence and quality of the appendices can be part of the evaluation process. - Appendices should not be used to circumvent the page limit. [Deadline Approaching] Data: Acquisition To Analysis (DATA), A SenSys/BuildSys workshop
by Shijia Pan 29 Jul '19

29 Jul '19

============================================================ Data: Acquisition To Analysis (DATA) workshop ****Part of SenSys/BuildSys 2019**** Columbia University, New York, USA ============================================================ The Data: Acquisition To Analysis (DATA) workshop aims to look broadly at interesting data from interesting sensing systems. The workshop considers problems, solutions, and results from all across the real-world data pipeline. We solicit submissions on unexpected challenges and solutions in the collection of datasets, on new and novel datasets of interest to the community, and on experiences and results—explicitly including negative results—in using prior datasets to develop new insights. The workshop aims to bring together a community of application researchers and algorithm researchers in the sensing systems and building domains to promote breakthroughs from the integration of the generators and users of datasets. The workshop will foster a cross-domain understanding by enabling both the understanding of application needs and data collection limitations. The workshop seeks contributions across two major thrusts, but is open to a broad view of interesting questions around the collection, dissemination, and use of data as well as interesting datasets: *** The collection and use of data - Challenges and solutions in data collection, especially around security and privacy - Expectations and norms for data collection from sensor networks, especially those that involve human factors - Novel insights from existing datasets - Metadata management for complex datasets - Synthetic data, including its generation, application, and utility - Success stories—key properties of useful datasets and how to generalize these - Shortcomings of prior datasets—and how to address these in the future - Position papers on policies and norms from experimental design through data management and use are explicitly welcomed. *** New and interesting datasets, including but not limited to: - Shopping-related sensing data - Animal-related data or sensed data - Anonymized health, or synthetic health-related data - Indoor localization, especially unprocessed/unfiltered physical layer measurements - Smart building, occupancy, motion data, energy, human comfort, vibration, BIM - Vehicular, GPS, cellular, or wifi traces - Reproductions of prior work that validate, refute, or enhance results To enable the longevity of submitted datasets, we plan on providing a central location where a repository for the data, and information about the data can be archived for at least 5 years. ****Submission Guideline**** Submissions may range from 1-5 pages in PDF format, excluding references, using the standard ACM conference template. Submissions are strongly encouraged to use only as much space as needed to clearly convey the significance of the work—we fully expect many submissions, especially datasets, to use only 1-2 pages, but wish to allow those interested in fully elucidating positions on data collection and use or insights from reproducibility efforts ample space to do so. Submissions should use only as much space as necessary to clearly convey their ideas and contributions. Dataset submissions should prefix paper titles with “Dataset: “ and must include a description of the dataset as well a reasonable accompanying data sample. Once accepted, a full described dataset must be shared to a public repository by the camera-ready deadline. Issues on licenses will be resolved by generally following the procedure similar to CRAWDAD ( https://crawdad.org/joinup.html <https://crawdad.org/joinup.html>) and special treatments, if needed, will be discussed separately with the TPC chairs. Each accepted submission is required to have at least one author attend the workshop and present to the workshop attendees. ****Important Dates**** Submission deadline: August 2nd, 2019, 11:59:59 pm AOE, submit HERE <https://data19.hotcrp.com/> Notifications: August 12th, 11:59:59 pm AOE Camera-ready: August 16th, 2019, 11:59:59 pm AOE ****Program Chairs**** Shijia Pan <http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/shijiapa/> (Carnegie Mellon University, USA) Pat Pannuto <https://patpannuto.com/> (University of California at Berkeley, USA) Flora Salim <http://florasalim.com/> (RMIT University, Australia) Mikkel Baun Kjærgaard <https://www.linkedin.com/in/mikkel-baun-kj%C3%A6rgaard-9705224/?originalSub…> (University of Southern Denmark, Denmark) ****Steering Chairs**** Jie Gao (Stony Brook University, USA) Pei Zhang (Carnegie Mellon University, USA) Prabal Dutta (University of California Berkeley, USA) Jie Liu (Harbin Institute of Technology, China) ****Program Committee**** Jorge Ortiz (Rutgers University) Wen Hu (University of New South Wales) Jun Han (National University of Singapore) Xiaoxuan Chris Lu (Oxford) Olga Saukh (TU Graz) Brano Kusy (CSIRO) Wan Du (University of California, Merced) Arun Vishwanath (IBM Research Australia) Clayton Miller (National University of Singapore) Salvatore Carlucci (NTNU) Rachel Cardell-Oliver (the University of Western Australia) Zoltan Nagy (UT Austin) Mohammad Saiedur Rahaman (RMIT University) Fisayo Caleb Sangogboye (University of Southern Denmark) Yongli Ren (RMIT University) Jason Koh (University of California, San Diego)

Call for Papers ExaMPI-19 - Workshop on Exascale MPI 2019 https://sites.google.com/site/workshopexampi/home Sunday, November 10th, 2019 Denver, CO, USA Held in conjunction with SC19: The International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis In cooperation with the IEEE Computer Society Technical Consortium on High Performance Computing (TCHPC) ==================================================================== The MPI standard and its implementations have proved surprisingly scalable. Issues that hampered scalability have been addressed in the MPI 2.1 – 2.2 definition process, and continued into MPI 3.0 and 3.1. Thus, MPI has been robust and has been able to evolve, without fundamentally changing the model or specification. For this and many other reasons, MPI is currently the de-facto standard for HPC systems and applications. However, there is a need for re-examination of the message-passing model for extreme-scale systems characterized by asymptotically decreasing local memory and highly localized communication networks. Likewise, there is a need for exploring new innovative and potentially disruptive concepts and algorithms partially to explore other roads than those taken by the recently released MPI 2018 Draft Specification. The aim of this workshop is to bring together developers and researchers to present and discuss innovative algorithms, protocols, operations, and concepts in Message Passing programming models, in particular related to MPI or MPI+X. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to): - Design and development of scalable Message Passing collective operations. - Communication and architecture topology mapping interfaces and algorithms. - Innovative algorithms for scheduling/routing to avoid network congestion. - Integrated use of structured data layout descriptors. - One-sided communication models and RDMA-based MPI. - Support for heterogenous compute devices and heterogeneous memory systems. - MPI multi-threading and threading requirements from OSes. - Interoperability of Message Passing and PGAS models. - Integration of task-parallel models into Message Passing models. - Fault tolerance in MPI. - MPI I/O. Paper submission and publication -------------------------------- There are two submission categories: (1) Regular research paper: submission of full paper. Regular paper submissions are limited to 10 single-space pages (including figures, tables and references) using a 10-point on 8.5x11-inch pages (US Letter). Templates can be found at: http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html. Instructions for preparing regular papers for the proceedings will be emailed to authors of accepted papers. Submitted regular papers will be peer-reviewed and accepted papers will be published by the IEEE TCHPC. Selected regular papers will be invited for submission to a special issue of a journal (more details to follow soon). (2) Hot topic abstract: submission of an extended abstract. These submissions target work-in-progress research on potentially controversial topics in Message-Passing. Hot topic extended abstracts are limited to 3 single-space pages. Templates can be found at: http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html. Accepted hot topic extended abstracts will be published only on the ExaMPI19 website. Regular Papers and extended abstracts should be submitted electronically through Linklings at: https://submissions.supercomputing.org. Important dates --------------- Paper Submissions Deadline: August 31, 2019 Paper Notification: October 4, 2019 Final Camera Ready Version: October 14, 2019

======================================================================== Sixth Workshop on Accelerator Programming using Directives (WACCPD 2019) (in conjunction with SC19) November 18, 2019 - https://waccpd.org ======================================================================== Call for Papers ---------------- The ever-increasing heterogeneity in supercomputing applications has given rise to complex compute node architectures offering multiple, heterogeneous levels of massive parallelism. As a result, the 'X' in MPI+X demands more focus. Exploiting the maximum available parallelism out of such systems necessitates sophisticated programming approaches that can provide scalable as well as portable solutions without compromising on performance. A programmer's expectation from the scientific community is to deliver solutions that would allow maintenance of a single code base whenever possible avoiding duplicate effort. Raising the abstraction of the code is one of the effective methodologies to reduce the burden on the programmer while improving productivity. Software abstraction-based programming models, such as OpenMP and OpenACC, have been serving this purpose over the past several years as the compiler technology steadily improves. These programming models address the 'X' component by providing programmers with high-level directive-based approaches to accelerate and port scientific applications to heterogeneous platforms. Recent architectural trends indicate a heavy reliance of future Exascale machines on accelerators for performance. Toward this end, the workshop will highlight the improvements over state-of-art through the accepted papers and prompt discussion through keynote/panel that draws the community's attention to key areas that will facilitate the transition to accelerator-based high- performance computing (HPC). The workshop aims to showcase all aspects of heterogeneous systems discussing innovative high-level language features, lessons learned while using directives to migrate scientific legacy code to parallel processors, compilation and runtime scheduling techniques among others. WACCPD2019 will be co-located with SC19, Denver. In the past five years of this workshop, WACCPD has been one of the major forums at SC to bring together programming model users, developers, and tools community to share knowledge and experiences to tackle emerging complex parallel computing systems. Topics of interest for workshop submissions include (but are not limited to) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Programming experiences porting applications in any scientific domain * Compiler and runtime support for current and emerging architectures (e.g. heterogeneous architectures, low-power processors) * Experiences in implementing compilers for accelerator directives on newer architectures * Language-based extensions and its prototype for directive-based programming models * Abstract handling of complex/heterogeneous memory hierarchies * Extensions to and shortcomings of current directives for heterogeneous systems * Comparisons against lower or higher-level abstractions * Application performance evaluation, validation, and lessons learned * Modeling, verification and performance analysis tools * Auto-tuning and optimization strategies * Parallel computing using hybrid programming paradigms (e.g. MPI, OpenMP, OpenACC, OpenSHMEM) * Asynchronous execution and scheduling (task-based approaches) * Scientific libraries interoperability with directive-based models * Power/energy studies and solutions targeting accelerators or heterogeneous systems Workshop Important Deadlines ----------------------------- Submission Deadline: August 22, 2019 AOE Author notification: September 30, 2019 Workshop Ready Deadline: October 10, 2019 AOE Camera Ready papers due: December 10, 2019 AoE Submission Process & Proceedings --------------------------------- WACCPD papers will be peer-reviewed and selected for presentation at the workshop. The paper presented will be published as post-proceedings in Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS) with Springer. Papers should be submitted electronically via the SC19 Submission Page (https://submissions.supercomputing.org/?page=Submit&id=SC19WorkshopWACCPDSu…) and follow the Springer LNCS format. Submissions are limited to 20 pages. The 20-page limit includes figures, tables, and appendices, but does not include references, for which there is no page limit. Authors are encouraged to provide an artifact appendix similar to SC19's reproducibility initiative. If an Artifact Description (AD) is provided, the paper is considered to get the Best Paper Award.
