Dear colleagues, We are organizing the following Special Issue on Argumentation-Based Systems in the Journal Intelligent Systems with Applications (Link to CFP: https://www.journals.elsevier.com/intelligent-systems-with-applications/cal…) ISWA (formerly known as "Expert Systems with Applications: X") is the gold open-access version of "Expert Systems with Applications" and is Q2 Scimago indexed. Submissions received by January 21st, 2022 (coincides with the submission deadline) are exempt from any fee. Kind regards, Guest Editors Special issue information: In the complex challenge of designing intelligent systems, an adequate representation of knowledge, sometimes considering uncertainty and incompleteness, and an easy-to-understand approach to automated reasoning are required. These are notable aspects of formal argumentation systems, suitable for making decisions through software agents trained in solving real problems of different nature, such as explainability and interpretability of results, hybrid KR&R-Machine Learning, query answering, cybersecurity, semantic web, and multi-agent systems. The growing demand for explainability of intelligent systems operating in the domains mentioned earlier is also confirmed by the increasing demand that humans can clearly understand the decisions provided by intelligent systems. The overall aim of this special issue is to collect state-of-the-art research findings on the latest development, up-to-date issues, and challenges in the field of formal argumentation. Proposed submissions should be original, unpublished, and novel in-depth research that makes significant methodological or application contributions. This special issue should be of interest to the AI community, whose topics of interest include, but are not limited to the following: Real-world applications of Argumentation Systems involving Knowledge-Based Systems; Extensions of existing argumentation formalisms, including studies of their computational complexity and their application in practice; Research about the relationship between different argumentation formalisms, e.g., different extension-based and gradual semantics, probabilistic and preference-based approaches; Studies about the relationship between different logic formalisms and argumentation formalisms, e.g., Dung frameworks, Value-based AFs, Abstract Dialectical Frameworks, High-Order AFs, Assumption-Based Argumentation, ASPIC+, Logic-based Argumentation, Defeasible Logic Programming; Studies concerning explainability and interpretability of results in argumentation-based systems; Implementation of argumentation formalisms/semantics based on different logic formalisms; Developments of argumentation-based systems; Argumentation theories and logical foundations; Hybrid systems involving argumentation-based reasoning. e.g., argumentation mining, argumentation and logic, argumentation and machine learning, and others; Computational issues regarding argumentation-based reasoning. Dear Colleagues, [Please ignore this message if you have already responded to the NSF CSSI and OAC Core Panelist Survey request.] We invite you to indicate your interest and availability to serve as a panelist for NSF's Cyberinfrastructure for Sustained Scientific Innovation (CSSI) and OAC Core programs. Both programs are interdisciplinary and rely on both cyberinfrastructure experts as well as experts in all science and engineering fields traditionally supported by NSF. We expect a topically diverse set of proposals, and we seek a variety of expertise, so the collective wisdom of the panel advises NSF about funding recommendations. Panels will be virtual and typically last two days. We expect each panelist to review about 6-8 proposals. # Workshop on Challenges and Opportunities of Efficient and Performant Storage Systems (CHEOPS) The workshop is aimed at researchers, developers of scientific applications, engineers and everyone interested in the evolution of storage systems. As the developments of computing power, storage and network technologies continue to diverge, the bandwidth performance gap between them widens. This trend, combined with the ever growing data volumes and data-driven computing such as machine learning, results in I/O and storage limitations, impacting the scalability and efficiency of current and future computing systems. Some of these challenges are quantitative, such as scale to match exascale system requirements, or latency reduction of the software stack to efficiently integrate new generations of hardware like storage class memory (SCM). Some other issues are more subtle and arise with the increased complexity of the storage solutions, like new smarter and more potent data management tools, monitoring systems or interoperability between I/O components or data formats. Users need to be able to evaluate what benefits HPC can bring to their companies, what type of computational resources would be best for their workloads and how they can evaluate what they should pay for these resources. Recent general adoption of machine learning has motivated migration of HPC workloads to cloud data centers, and there is a growing interest by the community in performance evaluation in this area, especially for end-to-end workflows. Benchmarking has typically involved running specific workloads that are reflective of typical HPC workloads, yet with the growing diversity of workloads, theoretical performance modeling is also of interest to allow for performance prediction given a minimal set of measurements. The workshop will be composed of submitted papers, invited talks, and a panel composed of representatives from the industry. ------------ Topics ------------ We invite novel, unpublished research paper submission within the scope of this workshop. Paper submission topics include, but are not limited to, the following areas: * Multi-, many-core CPUs, GPUs, hybrid system evaluation * Performance, power, efficiency, and cost analysis * HPC, data center, and cloud workloads and benchmarks * System, workload, and workflow configuration and optimization SUBMISSIONS Authors are invited to submit work as regular paper (up to 8 pages including references). All papers must be prepared in ACM Conference Format using the 2-column acmart format and SIGPLAN proceedings templatem, available at the following url: https://www.sigplan.org/sites/default/files/acmart/current/acmart-sigplanpr… The submitted work shall be in the English language, not be under consideration elsewhere, and will be peer-reviewed by the technical program committee (TPC). That means, the submission should omit authors' names, affiliations, and contact information. In addition, if the submission refers to prior work done by the authors, the reference should be made in third person. Any supplemental materials, if applicable, should also be anonymized. However, authors are free to disseminate their ideas or draft versions of the paper as they normally would, such as submitting them to arXiv or giving talks on their research ideas. The reviewers will be asked to refrain from actively looking for the identity of the authors via web search. =========================== Conflict of Interest Policy =========================== To ensure a fair and high-quality reviewing process we ask ALL authors of a submitted paper to register their conflicts with the PC members at the submission site. The following categories are considered as a conflict of interest: 1. Academic advisor or advisee (with no time limit) 2. Postdoctoral mentor or mentee (with no time limit) 3. Collaborators within the past three years, including a joint research or development project, a joint paper, or a funding relationship 4. Members of the same institution within the past 3 years 5. Family members or close friends 6. Someone involved in an alleged incident of harassment (It is not required that the incident be reported.) 7. Anyone whose relationship with an author would prevent the reviewer from being objective in his/her assessment.
