23 Sep '14

[Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this message] *** Please distribute to relevant groups, thank you *** CALL FOR PAPERS ***************************************************************************** 2nd International Workshop on Exploiting Silicon Photonics for energy-efficient high performance computing (SiPhotonics'2015), 19-21 January, 2015 Amsterdam, The Netherlands http://www.hipeac.net/2015/amsterdam/workshops/siphotonics associated with the 10th HiPEAC conference on High Performance and Embedded Architecture and Compilers (http://www.hipeac.net/2015/amsterdam/) ***************************************************************************** Goal of the Workshop: With Exascale systems on the horizon, we will be ushering in an era with power and energy consumption as the primary concerns for scalable computing. To achieve viable high performance, revolutionary methods are required with a stronger integration among hardware features, system software and applications. The main purpose of this workshop is to promote further research interests and activities on Silicon Photonics and related topics in the perspective of its adoption in future high performance systems and, in general, within future computing systems (from servers/workstations down to embedded devices). In fact, Silicon Photonics poses in itself crucial challenges and interesting design tradeoffs for being deployed in future computer systems effectively, also in integration with other technologies. Furthermore, the unique features of photonics (e.g. extreme low-latency, end-to-end transmission, high bandwidth density) have the potential to constitute a discontinuity element able to modify the expected shape of future computer systems from the design point of view and also from the programmability and/or runtime management perspectives. Summarizing, silicon photonics can bring innovations and benefits into current and foreseeable computing systems directly, due to their intrinsic features, but also indirectly enabling the evolution towards architectures, runtime and resource management approaches that maximize the photonic raw technological opportunities and lead to more efficient overall designs, otherwise impossible. This workshop aims to increase the synergy from a complete range of perspectives, from raw technology issues and solutions up to studies at the overall system level of modern multi-/many-core systems, both from academic and industrial researchers working in this area. We are interested in experimental, systems-related, and work-in-progress papers in all aspects of the Silicon Photonics technology at all levels of development. To emphasize both the fundamental impact of silicon photonic technologies on future system and interconnection network architectures and, conversely, the driving forces of practical and economically viable system-level design, requirements and constraints on the underlying technologies, this year the SiPhotonics and INA-OCMC Workshops will be held in a federated fashion. We plan to organize joint keynote presentations and a panel discussion with experts from both fields on topics of interest to both communities. This way, we intend to foster the exchange of ideas and increase collaboration between these highly complementary workshops. The paper submission and review processes will, however, still be run independently by each workshop. Topics of interest: Authors are invited to submit high quality papers representing original work from both the academia and industry in (but not limited to) the following topics: - Photonics in the memory hierarchy and I/O of computing systems, QoS management and performance analysis. On-chip and inter-chip approaches - Emerging challenges and solutions for on-chip interconnections, runtime and programmability for future homogeneous/heterogeneous CMPs - Interaction of photonic features and opportunities with chip-multiprocessor architectural features, runtime and operating system - Addressing thermal-/energy- and power-related issues - Solving the requirements of multiple heterogeneous parallel applications - Simulation, validation and verification - Synergies and tradeoffs between photonic and electronic network technologies - Low-level technological improvements and implications (e.g. integrated lasers, modulation and detection technologies, microring resonators) for computer system communication - Industrial practices and case studies Submission guidelines: Prospective authors should submit electronically a full paper in English in PDF format. Submitted papers must represent original unpublished research that is not currently under review for any other conference or journal. All manuscripts will be reviewed and will be judged on correctness, originality, technical strength, significance, quality of presentation, and interest and relevance to the workshop attendees. They should be formatted according to the IEEE Conference proceedings format - http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html (IEEEtran, double-column, 10pt), not exceeding 8 pages including figures and references. Submissions can be made through the submission web site at the IEEE CPS Web-based paper submission site. Publication: Informal proceedings will be provided in an USB stick to all participants including all material relevant to the conference and the related events. The proceedings of the workshop will be published by the IEEE Computer Society's Conference Publishing Services (CPS) http://www.computer.org/portal/web/cscps/home. Conference proceedings will be indexed by the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. An extended version of the best papers of the SiPhotonics be invited to submit extended article versions to a special issue of one of the ISI-indexed high-quality journals in this field (Concurrency and Computation: Practice and Experience from Wiley was last edition journal). ACM SAC Dependable and Adaptive Distributed Systems
by Karl M. Goeschka 21 Sep '14

21 Sep '14

CALL FOR PAPERS =============== +------------------------------------------------------------------+ | 10th Track on Dependable and Adaptive Distributed Systems (DADS) | | of the 30th ACM Symposium on Applied Computing (SAC'15) | +------------------------------------------------------------------+ April 13 - 17, 2015 Salamanca, Spain http://www.dedisys.org/sac15/ http://www.acm.org/conferences/sac/sac2015/ Accepted papers will be published in the ACM conference proceedings and will be included in the ACM digital library. Important Dates: Paper submission: September 26, 2014 (extended) Author notification: November 17, 2014 Camera-ready copies: December 8, 2014 Authors are invited to submit original work not previously published, nor currently submitted elsewhere. Authors submit full papers in pdf format using the link to the submission site at http://www.dedisys.org/sac15/. Authors are allowed up to 8 pages, but with more than 6 pages in the final camera ready, there will be a charge of 80USD per extra page. Call details ============ While computing is provided by the cloud and services increasingly pervade our daily lives, dependability and security are no longer restricted to mission or safety critical applications, but rather become a cornerstone of the information society. Unfortunately, large-scale, dynamic, and heterogeneous software systems that typically run continuously, often tend to become inert, brittle, and vulnerable after a while. The key problem is that the most innovative systems and applications are the ones that also suffer most from a significant decrease in dependability and security when compared to traditional critical systems, where dependability and security are fairly well understood as complementary concepts and a variety of proven methods and techniques is available today. In accordance with Laprie we call this effect the dependability gap, which is widened in front of us between demand and supply of dependability, and we can see this trend further fueled by the demand for resource awareness, green computing, and increasing cost pressure. Among technical factors of dependability, software development methods, tools, and techniques contribute to dependability, as defects in software products and services may lead to failure and also provide typical access for malicious attacks. In addition, there is a wide variety of fault and intrusion tolerance techniques available, including persistence provided by databases, redundancy and replication, group communication, transaction monitors, reliable middleware, cloud infrastructures, fragmentation-redundancy-scattering, and trustworthy service-oriented architectures with explicit control of quality of service properties and service level agreements. Furthermore, adaptiveness is envisaged in order to react to observed, or act upon expected changes of the system itself, the context/environment (e.g., resource variability or failure/threat scenarios) or users' needs and expectations. Provided without explicit user intervention, this is also termed autonomous behavior or self-properties, and often involves monitoring, diagnosis (analysis, interpretation), and reconfiguration (repair). In particular, adaptation is also a means to achieve dependability and security in a computing infrastructure with dynamically varying structure and properties. Topics of interest ================== * Dependable, Adaptive, and trustworthy Distributed Systems (DADS) * Architectures, architectural styles, and middleware for DADS * Protocols for DADS * Modeling, design, and engineering of DADS * Foundations and formal methods for DADS * Applications of DADS * Evaluations, testing, benchmarking, and case studies of DADS * Holistic aspects of DADS Track program co-chairs =============== Karl M. CFP: The 2015 International Workshop on Programming Models and Applications for Multicores and Manycores with PPoPP 2015
by Qichang Liang 15 Sep '14

15 Sep '14

The 2015 International Workshop on Programming Models and Applications for Multicores and Manycores will be co-located with the PPoPP 2015 conference in February 7-11, 2015, San Francisco Bay Area. Rapid advancements in multicore and chip-level multi-threading technologies open new challenges and make multicore systems a part of the computing landscape. From high-end servers to mobile phones, multicores and manycores are steadily entering every single aspect of the information technology. However most programmers are trained in sequential programming, yet most existing parallel programming models are prone to errors such as data race and deadlock. Therefore to fully utilise multicore and manycore hardware, parallel programming models that allow easy transition of sequential programs to parallel programs with good performance and enable development of error-free codes are urgently needed. This workshop is dedicated primarily to gather researchers and practitioners addressing the main challenges and share experiences in the emerging multicore and manycore software engineering and distributed programming paradigm. This workshop aims to provide a discussion forum for people interested in programming environments, models, tools and applications specifically designed for parallel multicore and manycore hardware environments. The program committee cordially invites any novel research ideas in (but not limited to) the following topics: programming models and systems for multicore, manycore, and clusters of multicore/manycore multicore and manycore software engineering parallel and distributed algorithms on GPU and multicore clusters parallel libraries and frameworks performance analysis, efficiency and effectiveness massively parallel processing on multicore/manycore systems and clusters automated parallelization and compilation techniques debugging and performance autotuning tools and techniques for multicore/manycore applications parallel algorithms, applications and benchmarks on multicore/manycore systems runtime power/energy management on multicore/manycore systems and clusters fault tolerance and resilience Important Dates Paper submission deadline : November 3, 2014 Notification of acceptance : December 15, 2014 Camera-ready papers due : January 1, 2015 Papers reporting original and unpublished research results and experience are solicited. [Please accept our apologies if you receive multiple copies of this message.] ============================================================================ Preliminary Call for Papers 3rd Workshop on High-performance and Real-Time Embedded Systems (HiRES 2015) http://www.cister.isep.ipp.pt/hires2015 ============================================================================ To be held in conjunction with the 10th International Conference on High-Performance and Embedded Architectures and Compilers (HiPEAC 2015) Goal of the Workshop -------------------- Increasingly, time is a relevant concern which impacts in all application areas and challenges ahead. Real-time requirements can be found in applications ranging from large-scale data processing systems to deeply embedded devices. Examples include safety-critical systems with high-performance requirements, such as collision avoidance and autonomous driving in avionics and automotive respectively, in which the correct timing behaviour is of paramount importance; consumer systems, such as video processing in TV sets and games; or real-time complex event processing applications, such as online trading or real-time traffic management. In all these applications, systems are expected to cope with an increasing demand of functional and non-functional requirements, with the corresponding increase in processing capabilities, paving the way for high-performance architectures, of which multi-core and many-core systems are becoming pervasive. The capabilities and challenges of parallelization as a means to provide higher performance is a cross-cutting concern. This workshop intends to bring together researchers and engineers in the confluence of high-performance, embedded systems and real-time systems. The goal is to allow for fruitful discussions on the challenges and research directions that should be tackled by the community. Papers are invited to illustrate current and future work in the theory and practice of the design and engineering of high-performance real-time embedded systems for a variety of application domains. This is the 3rd workshop in the series. Information on previous workshop can be found at: - HiRES 2013: http://www.cister.isep.ipp.pt/hires2013/ - HiRES 2014: http://www.cister.isep.ipp.pt/hires2014/ Topics of interest ------------------ Topics of interest to this edition of the workshop include but are not limited to: - Runtimes and operating systems combining high-performance and predictability requirements; - Programming models and compiler support for providing real-time capabilities to multi- and many-core architectures; - Models and tools for code generation, system verification and validation; - Worst-case execution time analysis, parallel/dag-based task models, schedulability analysis of multi- and many-core systems; - Heterogeneous multi-core embedded real-time architectures, many-core accelerators; - Time-predictable multi- and many-core processor architectures; - Time-aware energy-efficiency. Paper submission ---------------- Submitted papers should use the LNCS format and should be 12 pages maximum. Submissions are handled through easychair at https://www.easychair.org/conferences/?conf=hires2015. HiRES goals are to allow for interaction and discussion on early results.
