Call for Papers: The First International Workshop on High Performance Graph Processing (HPGP'16) Co-located with 25th ACM International Symposium on High-Performance Parallel and Distributed Computing (HPDC), Kyoto, Japan Workshop website: http://hpgp.bsc.es/ Deadline is extended to 20th Feb, 2016 Call for Papers --------------------- Applications which need to manage and process large scale graph data have become prominent in recent times. Semantic web, bioinformatics, cheminformatics, etc. are some examples for such application domains which deal with large graphs of millions and billions of vertices. Graphs due to their linked nature pose significant challenges for storage and processing. Graph processing have attracted significant attention from High Performance Computing (HPC) community due to this reason. Significant body of research have been conducted in recent times to address the void of large graph data analysis. New programming models such as Pregel, graph processing frameworks such as Giraph, Hama, and libraries such as GraphLab, PBGL, ScaleGraph have been developed to address the need of software for high performance large graph processing. Furthermore, large scale distributed memory compute clusters, single shared memory high performance computers, heterogeneous hardware such as GPGPUs, FPGAs have been tested for carrying out large graph data processing tasks. These efforts have been bolstered by graph related benchmarking initiatives such as Graph 500, Green Graph 500, etc. Despite these significant research efforts, there exist significant issues and technical gaps which need to be solved in the area of high performance graph data mining. High Performance Graph Processing 2016 (HPGP’16) workshop aims to provide a unified platform for discussing the latest state-of-the-art efforts conducted to address such research issues related to high performance large graph processing. HPGP’16 will be held in conjunction with the ACM International Symposium on High-Performance Parallel and Distributed Computing (HPDC) 2016 as a half-day workshop. The workshop will take place in the beautiful, ancient city of Kyoto at Kyoto International Community House. We invite researchers from academia and industry working in graph data mining and management in high performance computing environments to submit their original (full/short) papers. Submissions will be peer reviewed in single-blinded manner and each submission will receive minimum two reviewer comments. The main topics of the workshop include, but not limited to: * Novel large graph processing frameworks and programming paradigms * Graph processing in many core processors such as GPGPUs/FPGAs, Xeon Phi, etc. * Graph processing in Clouds * HPC graph databases and query languages * Novel graph partitioning algorithms * Application experiences of large graph processing on HPC environments * Benchmarks for large graph processing workloads * Performance characterization of large graph mining tasks * Scalable graph analysis algorithms and novel data structures Submission Guidelines --------------------- A submitted paper should be of one of the following type: 1. Regular Research Paper: The paper will report original research results with sound evaluation. It should be at most 8 pages. 2. Short Paper: The paper will present a survey or an on-going work. It will clearly state the problem to be addressed and an outline of the methodology that the authors plan to follow. It should be at most 4 pages. All submissions must be prepared in the ACM Proceedings Style ( http://www.acm.org/sigs/publications/proceedings-templates) The papers must be formatted as single-blinded. All accepted submissions will be published in the ACM digital library. Now in its fourth year, the International Workshop on OpenCL (IWOCL) will be hosted by TU Wien in Vienna, Austria, at the C3 Convention Center on April 19th-21th 2016. April 19th is reserved for an Advanced Hands On OpenCL tutorial with April 20th – 21st consisting of a mix of keynotes, academic papers, technical presentations, tutorials and poster sessions. We are inviting high-quality submissions in four categories: * Full Academic Papers. As in previous years these will undergo peer review by at least three reviewers each, with accepted papers being published in the ACM international conference proceedings series after the conference. * Technical Presentations. These are an opportunity to talk about work in progress or more industrially-focused work. Submission only requires a 1-page abstract, with slide sets being made available online via the conference website after the workshop and abstracts included in the conference proceedings. * Tutorials. We are inviting proposals for quarter day or half day tutorials on OpenCL-related topics. * Posters. These will be on show during the whole workshop. Submission is via an abstract and we will exhibit as many of high-quality posters as we can. In 2016, we have adopted a new theme, Real-Time Issues and Challenges for novel applications and systems: Medical devices, intelligent transportation systems, Industrial automation systems, Internet of Things and Smart Grids. In addition to high-quality theoretical papers, we solicit high-quality papers pertaining to the above application domains. We invite original submissions pertaining to all aspects of ORC technology and especially those that are well aligned with the 2016 theme. These include, but are not limited to: Programming and system engineering: real-time programming challenges, ORC paradigms, object/component models, languages, synchronous languages, RT CORBA, Embedded .NET, RT RMI, RT Java, UML, model-maintenance, system of systems, time-predictable systems and hardware. Distributed computing and communication infrastructures: real-time communication, networked platforms, protocols, Internet QoS, peer-to-peer computing, sensor networks, VANETS and V2V and V2I communication, trusted and dependable systems. System software: real-time kernels and OS, middleware support for ORC, QoS management, extensibility, synchronization, resource allocation, scheduling, fault tolerance, security. Applications: Medical devices, intelligent transportation systems, Industrial automation systems, Internet of Things and Smart Grids, embedded systems (automotive, avionics, consumer electronics, building systems, sensors, etc), multimedia processing, RT Web-based applications. System evaluation: output accuracy, timing, dependability, end-to-end QoS, overhead, fault detection and recovery time. Cyber-physical systems: mobile systems, wireless sensor networks, real-time analytics. Guidelines for Manuscripts IEEE ISORC 2016 invites papers in three categories. According to program committee guidelines, papers presenting practical techniques, ideas, or evaluations will be favored, with papers reporting experimentation results and industrial experiences particularly welcome. Originality will not be interpreted too narrowly, but papers that are based on severely unrealistic assumptions will not be accepted however mathematically or logically sophisticated the discussion may be. Submission guidelines for each category of paper are as follows: Papers should describe original work and be maximum 8 pages in length using the IEEE paper format (link to templates). A maximum of two extra pages may be purchased. Industrial papers and practitioner reports, describing experiences of using ORC technology in application or tool development projects, are an integral part of the technical program of ISORC. A majority of these papers are expected to be shorter and less formal than research papers. They should clearly identify and discuss in detail the issues that represent notable industrial advances. Reports with project metrics supporting their claims are particularly sought, as well as those that show both benefits and drawbacks of the approaches used in the given project. Short papers (4 pages or less using the IEEE format) on substantial real-time applications are also invited, and should contain enough information for the program committee to understand the scope of the project and evaluate the novelty of the problem or approach. Cloud providers need to manage complex infrastructures in a seamless fashion to support the highly dynamic and heterogeneous workloads and hosted applications customers deploy. Similarly, HPC environments have been increasingly adopting techniques that enable flexible management of vast computing and networking resources, close to marginal provisioning cost, which is unprecedented in the history of scientific and commercial computing. Various virtualization technologies contribute to the overall picture in different ways: machine virtualization, with its capability to enable consolidation of multiple underutilized servers with heterogeneous software and operating systems (OSes), and its capability to live-migrate a fully operating virtual machine (VM) with a very short downtime, enables novel and dynamic ways to manage physical servers; OS-level virtualization (i.e., containerization), with its capability to isolate multiple user-space environments and to allow for their coexistence within the same OS kernel, promises to provide many of the advantages of machine virtualization with high levels of responsiveness and performance; I/O Virtualization allows physical NICs/HBAs to take traffic from multiple VMs or containers; network virtualization, with its capability to create logical network overlays that are independent of the underlying physical topology and IP addressing, provides the fundamental ground on top of which evolved network services can be realized with an unprecedented level of dynamicity and flexibility; the increasingly adopted paradigm of Software-Defined Networking (SDN) promises to extend this flexibility to the control and data planes of network paths. The workshop will be one day in length, composed of 20 min paper presentations, each followed by 10 min discussion sections, plus lightning talks that are limited to 5 minutes. Presentations may be accompanied by interactive demonstrations. Submission of a paper should be regarded as a commitment that, should the paper be accepted, at least one of the authors will register and attend the conference to present the work. (apologies for cross-postings) DEADLINE: PDSEC-16: extended deadline: Jan 29 (final) The 17th IEEE International Workshop on Parallel and Distributed Scientific and Engineering Computing, May 27, 2016, Chicago USA to be held in conjunction with IPDPS 2016. http://cse.stfx.ca/~pdsec16 Scope and Interests: The technological trends of HPC systems imposes more burden to application developers to manage the unprecedented complexity of the systems and their performance characteristics. The existing application code may not perform well on these systems without large modifications. A complete rewrite may be required to utilize multiple levels of parallelism, novel I/O technology, power capping and system-wide temporal/spatial performance heterogeneity. The HPC community has developed new programming models, algorithms, libraries and tools to meet these new challenges to accommodate productive code development and effective system use. However, the application community still needs to understand the benefit through practical evaluations. This year, we will shift the focus of PDSEC to methodologies and experiences of scientific and engineering applications and algorithms to identify sustainable code development for better productivity and application performance. CALL FOR DEMOS The International Conference on High Performance Computing & Simulation (HPCS 2016) July 18 – July 22, 2016 The University of Innsbruck, Innsbruck, Austria http://hpcs2016.cisedu.info/ or http://cisedu.us/rp/hpcs16 Demo Proposal Submission Deadline: February 01, 2016 PURPOSE AND SCOPE The HPCS 2016 Conference, to be held in Innsbruck, Austria, July 18 - 22, 2016, is an important opportunity for both business and academic sectors to network with the HPC & Simulation communities and collaborating projects investigators and developers, to exchange information, ideas, techniques, hardware and software platforms and tools on how to advance the state of the art in this rapidly evolving field, in order to support the scientific research and education as well as industrial applications and implementations. Demos and experiential showcases of HPC environments, tools and simulation are highly encouraged to be part of this meeting. We welcome demo proposals on all subjects related to HPCS. Topics include the themes outlined in the conference topics as well as distributed data management, grid and HPC, Cloud applications, Big Data, challenging HPC applications, modeling and simulation techniques and solutions using HPC systems, etc. Demos will be scheduled throughout the Conference, with dedicated sessions and times as will be indicated in the Program. For demos, this will give authors the opportunity to present their work to a wide audience. It will also provide an excellent opportunity to market products and services as well as present announcements. Real experimentation has proven to be a fundamental methodology to evaluate HPC technologies and systems as well as modeling and simulation. Early prototyping is an outstanding way to understand real user requirements and help adoption of technologies by the mass market.In addition, the demo sessions showing real-systems prototypes at work will naturally complement the technical sessions, thus stimulating discussions among attendees. As in every year, the HPCS 2016 Conference will feature state-of-the-art set of demo presentations. The HPCS 2016 Organizing Committee invites proposals and ideas for demos to be held in conjunction with the Conference.Topics may cover different levels, ranging from introductory to highly advanced.Demos will address relevant subject areas within HPC and simulation.Typically, 30-minute demos are planned but others will be considered.Proposals will be evaluated by members of the Organizing Committee. If you are interested in presenting a demo at this conference or you have an idea for a demo you would like to see offered, please contact the Demos Co-Chairs. TOPICS INCLUDE(but are not limited to) all HPCS related topics. DEMO PROPOSAL SUBMISSION We invite you to prepare an abstract following the proposed templates below. Please submit your abstract by email to the Co-Chairs (make sure that the subject of the e-mail says "HPCS 2016 Demos Submission.") The abstracts of accepted demo proposals will be disseminated to the wider HPCS 2016 community and included in the conference proceedings. Hence we invite you to prepare the abstracts with care. The organizing committee will review and select submissions for demo sessions and notify authors about acceptance by March 15, 2016. A proposal to present a demo at HPCS 2016 should contain the following information: - Demo Title - Full Name(s), Affiliation(s) and Contact Information of the Instructor(s) - Keywords from the list of topics in the Conference Call (up to 6) - Extended Abstract (500-1000 words or 2-4 pages) detailing (a) the technical subject, (b) its importance and originality, (c) its relevance and benefits to HPCS 2016 attendees, and (d) demo objectives - Demo detailed Outline in a medium level of granularity including sections and subsections as well as bibliography (as applicable) - Intended audience profile and prerequisites (if any) - Expected duration of the demo. Typically, 30-minute demos are planned but others will be considered. - Expected demo format. Call for Participation: ISC 2016 PHD FORUM CONTRIBUTIONS The ISC High Performance conference is Europe’s largest international conference and exhibition for high performance computing (HPC), networking and storage. The ISC 2016 PhD Forum provides an opportunity for PhD students to present research results in a setting that sparks scientific exchange and lively discussions. The PhD Forum will be held on Monday, June 20, from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm, and consists of two parts: a set of back-to-back three-minute lightning talks followed by a one-hour poster session. The lightning talk gives a quick, to-the-point presentation of research objectives and early results, while the poster will provide more in-depth information as a starting point for intense discussions. Everyone attending the conference is encouraged to attend the PhD Forum to engage with future HPC experts, provide valuable feedback, learn about future research developments, and to fathom promising opportunities for collaboration. The submissions will be reviewed by the PhD Forum Program Committee – an international committee of HPC experts led by Prof. Lorena A. Barba from George Washington University. The committee will select the best submissions for presentation at ISC 2016. The presenters will have to provide a set of five slides (including a title slide) for their three-minute lightning talk by Monday, May 23, 2016 at the latest. During the poster session, the presenters are required to be available at their posters for discussions. Award After the poster session, the PhD Forum Program Committee will elect one student to receive the "ISC 2016 PhD Forum Award”. The winner will receive an Apple iPad Air 2 and a 100€ voucher for Springer books. The award is sponsored by Springer. Travel Support Student travel awards, granted by the DFG Priority Programme "Software for Exascale Computíng" (SPPEXA), will be available for accepted presenters in the PhD Forum. Slide Proceedings The final PDF versions of the posters and presentation slides will be included in the conference proceedings, which will be available to all conference attendees a few days after the event. Terms & Conditions By submitting a proposal, you agree to give a three-minute lightning talk and present a poster at the ISC 2016 PhD Forum in Frankfurt, Germany. Presenters need to be registered conference participants, and only posters of registered presenters will be admitted. This is the only extension we will be able to give. *Graph Algorithm Building Blocks (GABB) 2016An IEEE IPDPS 2016 Workshop, May 23, 2016, Chicago, Illinois, USA* === Scope and Goals === The Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms, introduced over 30 years ago, had a transformative effect on software for linear algebra. With the BLAS, researchers spend less time mapping algorithms onto specific features of hardware platforms and more time on interesting new algorithms. Would it be practical to define an analogous set of basic building blocks for graph algorithms? Can we define a core set of mathematical primitives from which we can build most (if not all) important graph algorithms? If we can agree on the mathematical foundations, how would these interact with the data structures used in graph algorithms and result in an API the graph algorithms research community could support? These questions will be the topic for the second “Graph Algorithms Building Blocks” workshop. Our goal is an interactive workshop where the full range of issues behind “Graph Algorithms Building Blocks” will be explored. We want an interactive “workshop” so papers that report preliminary results and unproven but interesting ideas will also be considered. === Submission and Dates === Submitted manuscripts may not exceed ten (10) single-spaced double-column pages using 10-point size font on 8.5x11-inch pages (IEEE conference style), including figures, tables, and references (see IPDPS Call for Papers for more details).
