[Deadline extension to Aug. 31] 4th Workshop on Heterogeneous High-performance Reconfigurable Computing (H2RC 2018) at SC18: Extended abstracts due Aug. 31
by Jason D. Bakos 16 Aug '18

16 Aug '18

========================================================================== ** Call for Papers ** ========================================================================== Fourth International Workshop on Heterogeneous High-performance Reconfigurable Computing (H^2RC) ========================================================================== Held in conjunction with Supercomputing 2018 Sunday Morning, November 11, 2018 Dallas, TX http://h2rc.cse.sc.edu ========================================================================== Submission Deadline: August 31, 2018 (1 to 4 page extended abstracts) [EXTENDED] ========================================================================== As conventional von-Neumann architectures are suffering from rising power densities, we are facing an era with power, energy efficiency, and cooling as first-class constraints for scalable HPC. FPGAs can tailor the hardware to the application, avoiding overheads and achieving higher hardware efficiency than general-purpose architectures. Leading FPGA manufacturers have recently made a concerted effort to provide a range of higher-level, easier to use high-level programming models for FPGAs. Such initiatives are already stimulating new interest within the HPC community around the potential advantages of FPGAs over other architectures. With this in mind, this workshop, now its fourth year, brings together HPC and heterogeneous-computing researchers to demonstrate and share experiences on how newly-available high-level programming models, including OpenCL, are already empowering HPC software developers to directly leverage FPGAs, and to identify future opportunities and needs for research in this area. ========================================================================== Topics ========================================================================== Submissions are solicited that explore the state of the art in the use of FPGAs in heterogeneous high-performance compute architectures and, at a system level, in data centers and supercomputers. FPGAs may be considered from either or both the distributed, parallel and composable fabric of compute elements or from their dynamic reconfigurability. We particularly encourage submissions which focus on the mapping of algorithms and applications to heterogeneous FPGA-based systems as well as the overall impact of such architectures on the compute capacity, cost, power efficiency, and overall computational capabilities of data centers and supercomputers. A non-comprehensive list of potential topics of interest is given below: 1. FPGAs in the cloud and data center 2. Cloud and data center applications 3. Leveraging reconfigurability 4. Benchmarks 5. Implementation studies 6. Programming languages, tools, and frameworks 7. Future-gazing 8. Community building ========================================================================== Special theme for 2018 ========================================================================== For this year's workshop we especially encourage the submission of papers on the topic of FPGA-based support for non-volatile memory and near-memory computing. Non-volatile memory (NVM) technologies such as Flash and Phase-Change memory potentially facilitate shared storage in the microsecond regime. In emerging systems, NVM may serve as a new level of memory hierarchy or as a networked resource. To this end, early work in developing both system-level interfaces to NVM (such as NVMe) and network-level interfaces to NVM (such as RDMA over Converged Ethernet 2) rely heavily on FPGAs as low-latency intermediaries. ========================================================================== Prospective authors are invited to submit relevant contributions as an extended abstract in ACM SIG Proceedings format of up to four pages. You can submit your contribution(s) through a link on the H2RC website: http://h2rc.cse.sc.edu The authors of accepted papers will be invited to present their work at the workshop. ========================================================================== Important dates: ========================================================================== Submission Deadline: August 31, 2018 (extended) Acceptance Notification: September 18, 2018 Camera-ready Manuscripts Due: October 15, 2018 Workshop Date: November 11, 2018 ========================================================================== Workshop Format: ========================================================================== H2RC is a half-day Sunday workshop. It will be comprised of: -- Keynote and invited talks -- Talks selected among paper submissions ========================================================================== Organizing Committee: ========================================================================== Michaela Blott, Xilinx Franck Cappello, Argonne National Lab Torsten Hoefler, ETH Zurich Jason D. Bakos, University of South Carolina ========================================================================== Technical Program Committee: ========================================================================== Rizwan Ashraf, Oak Ridge National Laboratory Paul Chow, University of Toronto Hans Eberle, NVIDIA Ken Eguro, Microsoft Research Xin Fang, Northeastern University Alan George, University of Pittsburgh Christoph Hagleitner, IBM Zheming Jin, Argonne National Lab Andreas Koch, TU Darmstadt Miriam Leeser, Northeastern University Chistian Plessl, University of Paderborn Viktor Prasanna, University of Southern California Marco Santambrogio, Politecnico Di Milano Yaman Umuroglu, Xilinx Research -- Jason D. Call for Papers: ScalA@SC 2018 - Papers due September 2
by Christian Engelmann 13 Aug '18

13 Aug '18

We apologize if you receive multiple copies of this notice. The deadline for submissions is September 2, 2018. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ScalA18: 9th Workshop on Latest Advances in Scalable Algorithms for Large-Scale Systems held in conjunction with the SC18: The International Conference on High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis in cooperation with the IEEE Computer Society Technical Consortium on High Performance Computing (TCHPC) November 12, 2018, Dallas, TX, USA <http://www.csm.ornl.gov/srt/conferences/Scala/2018 <http://www.csm.ornl.gov/srt/conferences/Scala/2018>> Novel scalable scientific algorithms are needed in order to enable key science applications to exploit the computational power of large-scale systems. This is especially true for the current tier of leading petascale machines and the road to exascale computing as HPC systems continue to scale up in compute node and processor core count. These extreme-scale systems require novel scientific algorithms to hide network and memory latency, have very high computation/communication overlap, have minimal communication, and have no synchronization points. Scientific algorithms for multi-petaflop and exa-flop systems also need to be fault tolerant and fault resilient, since the probability of faults increases with scale. Resilience at the system software and at the algorithmic level is needed as a crosscutting effort. Finally, with the advent of heterogeneous compute nodes that employ standard processors as well as GPGPUs, scientific algorithms need to match these architectures to extract the most performance. This includes different system-specific levels of parallelism as well as co-scheduling of computation. Key science applications require novel mathematical models and system software that address the scalability and resilience challenges of current- and future-generation extreme-scale HPC systems. Submission Guidelines Authors are invited to submit manuscripts in English structured as technical papers at a length of at least 8 letter size (8.5in x 11in) pages and not exceeding 8 pages, including figures, tables, and references using the IEEE format for conference proceedings. Submissions not conforming to these guidelines may be returned without review. Reference style files are available at <http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html <http://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html>>. All manuscripts will be reviewed and judged on correctness, originality, technical strength, and significance, quality of presentation, and interest and relevance to the workshop attendees. Submitted papers must represent original unpublished research that is not currently under review for any other conference or journal. Papers not following these guidelines will be rejected without review and further action may be taken, including (but not limited to) notifications sent to the heads of the institutions of the authors and sponsors of the conference. Submissions received after the due date, exceeding length limit, or not appropriately structured may also not be considered. At least one author of an accepted paper must register for and present the paper at the workshop. Authors may contact the workshop program chair for more information. Papers should be submitted electronically at <https://submissions.supercomputing.org <https://submissions.supercomputing.org/>>. Full papers will be published with the SC18 workshop proceedings in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library. Reproducibility Initiative As part of a major initiative that aims to increase the level of reproducibility and replicability of results, ScalA'18 invites authors of technical papers to submit optional appendix information that can promote better reproducibility of computational results. Authors are highly encouraged to provide a 2-page Artifact Description Appendix, which will not count toward the page limit of the submission. Notes: - A paper cannot be disqualified based on information provided or not provided in this appendix, nor if the appendix is not available. - The availability and quality of an appendix can be used in ranking a paper. In particular, if two papers are of similar quality, the existence and quality of the appendices can be part of the evaluation process. by Midia Reshadi 12 Aug '18

12 Aug '18

[We apologise if you receive multiple copies of this CFP] IEEE/ACM NoCArc 2018 @ MICRO-51 Notification: Deadline extention ________________________________________ Paper submission: August 17, 2018 (Extended) Author notification: September 10, 2018 Camera-ready version due: September 17, 2018 NoCArc Workshop: October 20, 2018 NoCArc 2018 Call For Paper (http://www.nocarc.org) October 20, 2018 - Fukuoka, Japan (To be held in conjunction with IEEE/ACM MICRO-51) ********************************************************************** G E N E R A L I N F O R M A T I O N With an advancement in both computing architectures and process technology, many-core architectures are going to have hundreds of cores into a single chip. It is expected that the integration become in the order of thousand cores within 2020 as stated by the International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors, which benefits some emerging applications such as machine learning engine design. By increasing the number of processing elements (PEs) in System-on-Chip (SoC), there is a need for an efficient, scalable and reliable communication infrastructure. As technology geometries shrink to the deep submicron regime, the communication delay and power consumption of global interconnections become the major bottleneck. The Network-on-Chip (NoC) design paradigm, based on a modular packet-switched mechanism, can address many of the on-chip communication issues such as performance limitations of long interconnects, and integration of large number of PEs on a chip. Techniques and architectures are needed for efficiently design and optimize NoC and evaluate it at the network or system level. NoCs are also prone to failure where techniques are required to tolerate, verify and test. In addition, new technologies are emerging as wireless, optical, and RF and for 2.5D and 3D packages. The goal of NoCArc is to provide a forum for researchers to present and discuss innovative ideas and solutions related to design and implementation of multi-core systems on chip. The workshop will focus on issues related to design, analysis and testing of on-chip networks. A R E A S O F I N T E R E S T The workshop will focus on issues related to design, analysis and testing of on-chip networks. CFP - IEEE International Conference on Fog and Edge Computing (ICFEC 2019)

--------------------------------------------------- 3rd IEEE International Conference on Fog and Edge Computing (ICFEC 2019) May 14th-17th, 2019, Larnaca, Cyprus In conjunction with IEEE/ACM CCGrid 2019 (19th IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Cluster, Cloud and Grid Computing) URL: http://www.cloudbus.org/fog/icfec2019/ The organizing committee is delighted to invite you to Larnaca, Cyprus for the 3rd IEEE International Conference on Fog and Edge Computing. The Conference will be held as part of/in conjunction with IEEE/ACM CCGrid, 2019, which is sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society and ACM (Association for Computing Machinery). Call for papers The Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is incorporating “things” from the physical world into the Internet environment to enhance the monitoring and intelligent control of physical, digital and social systems. Such things include smart infrastructures like power grids with sensing and actuation capabilities, mobile platforms like smart phones and vehicles, and consumer electronics and appliances such as refrigerators and healthcare devices. In cloud-centric IoT applications, the observational streams from these things at the edge of the network are extracted, accumulated and processed centrally at public/private clouds, and the responses are communicated back to the things, leading to significant latencies and bandwidth costs. To satisfy the ever-increasing demand for computing resources from emerging applications such as IoT, academics and industry experts are now advocating to supplement large cloud data centers with micro data centres. These micro data centres, also called Fogs, are located at the edge of the network, closer to a user (in the spatial and/or network topology) than cloud data centres. Further, edge devices such as smart phones and gateways themselves have non-trivial compute capacity and are even closer to the user. As a result, it is possible to utilize such edge and fog resources to off-load computation that would traditionally have been carried out at the cloud. Referred to as “Fog/Edge computing”, this paradigm is expected to improve the agility of cloud service deployments, make use of opportunistic and cheap computing, and leverage the network latency and bandwidth diversities between these resources. On the one hand, the development of fog and edge computing infrastructure requires examining operating systems, virtualization and containers, and middleware techniques for fabric management. On the other hand, the use of fog and edge computing paradigm requires extensions to current programming models and development of new abstractions that will allow developers to design novel applications that can benefit from such massively distributed systems. This also opens up other challenges in: security, privacy and trust of the edge and fog resources; resource management for mobile, transient and constrained resources; distributed data, state and context management; and emerging domains like autonomous vehicles and deep learning over such platforms. The conference seeks to attract contributions covering both theory and practice over system software and domain-specific applications in these areas. Some representative topics of interest include (but are not limited to): Data centers and infrastructures for Fog/Edge Computing Middleware for Fog/Edge infrastructures Programming models and runtime systems for Fog/Edge Computing Scheduling for Fog/Edge infrastructures Fog/Edge storage Monitoring/metering of Fog/Edge infrastructures Fog/Edge Computing applications Latency/locality-critical applications Legal issues in Fog/Edge clouds Security and privacy – including support for new cryptographic approaches Modelling Fog/Edge environments – e.g. using process networks, agent-based models, Peer-2-Peer systems, etc. Performance monitoring and modelling Applications of Fog/Edge Computing Organisation General Chairs: Rajkumar Buyya, University of Melbourne, Australia Omer Rana, Cardiff University, UK Massimo Villari, University of Messina, Italy Program Chairs: Haiying Shen, University of Virginia, USA Yogesh Simmhan, Indian Institute of Science, India Publication Chairs: Maria Fazio, University of Messina, Italy Jia Rao, The University of Texas at Arlington, USA Steering Committee Rajkumar Buyya, University of Melbourne, Australia Adrien Lebre (Inria, France) Omer Rana, Cardiff University, UK Anthony Simonet (Inria, France) Haiying Shen, University of Virginia, USA Massimo Villari, University of Messina, Italy For more information on the organization, see organization page.
